What phrases do you hate? It gives me the rage when my mum says put up and shut up. I know that some things are not within my control and that i have to do things i don't like.

My world

There's a women online who constantly calls her three year old bubba and says things like "was you hangry bubba?" Was? Was? And she's a teacher

I was going to say this "was you?" or "we was".

Urgh. HATE them!

It is where it is.
We are where we.
Tell me you are …… without telling me you are…….

Slick back bun. It's slicked back.

Pack lunch. It's packed lunch.

Brought a house. No. You bought a house. Can't even blame that one on a type.

Plutonic friends.

Pacifically.

I could care less.

Incorrect use of fiancé/fiancée.

Being on tenderhooks.

Putting someone on a pedalstool.

Giving someone your upmost respect.

I think I'll stop there haha.

Edited

Please, keep going! Agree with all of them.

For decades that I can remember, the noun and verb were pronounced the same, with the accent on the 2nd syllable. It’s only relatively recently that it’s turned into REEsearch, for both noun and verb.

i was taught reSearch was british
and REsearch was American

same with Secretry British
and Secretairy American

Yes, I dare say it’s yet another irritating import from across the pond.

My truth or your truth. It’s either the truth or it’s a lie.

Daffodilsinthespring · 30/04/2026 20:57

Gotten. If a post on here contains it, I immediately stop reading.

CurdinHenry · 30/04/2026 21:01

"peri is kicking my arse today" or any other attempt to blame peri on being the same lazy lump you've been since birth

Daffodilsinthespring · 30/04/2026 20:57

Gotten. If a post on here contains it, I immediately stop reading.

It’s a word that didn’t die out in parts of the UK and Ireland, so it’s a bit odd that you’re so resolutely judgemental about it.

Growlybear83 · 30/04/2026 21:04

‘Gives me the rage’ instead of ‘makes me angry’.

SALaw · 30/04/2026 21:05

I absolutely hate “not my circus, not my monkeys” and people say it on here all the bloody time.

Cosyblankets · 30/04/2026 19:10

In a shop..... are you ok? When they mean next please

YES. It's one of my frustrations too.

HelloItsMeYourRobotVaccuum · 30/04/2026 21:06

“I work inside the home”. Well yes, all adults do but some of us do that and then go to work. Grin

dailyconniptions · 30/04/2026 21:11

fintangle · 30/04/2026 18:31

They’re different words. One’s the verb, the other the noun.

No they're not. It's only pronounced REEsearch if you're American.

ToWhitToWhoo · 30/04/2026 21:14

Managerial-speak, especially 'deliver' and 'deliverables'

'Think outside the box' -so cliche'd that it's in a box.

'I'm not racist/ I'm not being funny/ I don't want to be rude ... BUT'

'I'm just being frank'

'Resilience' used as though it's a moral virtue

'Tough love'. Be nasty to me if you must, but don't call it 'love'!

'Journey' of anything that doesn't involve physical travel.

'Chrimbo'

'Happy birthday' if said to me. I hate my birthday!

AmberSpy · 30/04/2026 21:14

People using the word "spends" in reference to their budget (e.g. money left over for "fun spends"). For some reason this really gets my back up.

Also "ChatGBT" drives me mad, I see it everywhere!

melisma · 30/04/2026 21:18

Bung when used in the context of cooking - often in a performative "oh, this recipe is SO easy" way - e.g. Just season and bung the chicken in the oven
Famalam
FIL calls prosecco "seccy" 😫
Platty joobs for the platinum jubilee a few years ago made me want to claw my own ears off
This one when used as a caption for a photo of someone's DC/DH on social media
Pack lunch
I turned around and said....and then he turned around and said....(picturing people twirling on the spot)
Thanks OP, I feel better for that! 😁

Luckyingame · 30/04/2026 21:20

But - in my days we really just coped, since childhood!
Had no choice (generation X, another country).

I forgot what phrases I hated 😁

Oh, Owen Moore.
Owen Moore went out today, owing more than he could pay.
My husband's father used to repeat this and nauseam.

smilesy · 30/04/2026 21:21

Reaching out. Especially when used in a trivial, everyday context. As in “I reached out to the baby sitter to see if they were available”. You did not “reach out”. You contacted them. My DSiL uses this all the time because she lives in America but it’s creeping over here and it’s fucking pompous on either side of the Atlantic

Oh and speaking of oceans, “pacific “ instead of “specific”. You don’t say “pecial” instead of “special”, do you? 😬

DancingFerret · 30/04/2026 21:23

Veg
Uni
Any sentence starting with me or myself
Anyways
Laters
To be fair
Sat (instead of sitting)
