Is a St George cross an underlying sign of passive racism?

Walked past the house of a relatively new friend today and was surprised to see they’ve put up a huge flagpole, complete with St George cross flag flying high. I am generally patriotic , and put out the bunting for notable occasions without a second thought. I would probably be pleased had it been a Union Jack, but the St George has an undertone of racism to me, unless it’s flown for the football World Cup or something.

You have literally no idea why they’ve put the flag up. None of us are inside anyone else’s heads. Attributing racism to it says more about you than them. Why don’t you ask them if you’re so interested?

Not english but from another UK country. If we fly our flag noone thinks its racist. Bit unfair all english people cant be patriotic and fly their flag...

World Cup coming up! England are playing. Likely reason. You must know what these people are like! How can they be friends if you don’t? Find out more directly from them. I would not do this personally and a neighbour has a union flag up and she’s probably Reform voting.

We always put a St George's flag out when England football team are playing at a major tournament. It's sad that some groups have hijacked it now.

The UK is known to be one of the most tolerant welcoming countries in the world yet we still can’t fly our flag without being accused of racism…

I always think St George flags are useful in letting you know where the racists live.

I've never known anyone who is genuinely not racist even consider flying a St George flag for a millisecond.

I think it's really sad and totally ridiculous that some posters have said it indicates racism. If your new friend displays any other signs of racism, yes ditch them but not for flying their country's flag. I flew one for St George's day and have only just taken it down.

I thought women's six nations rugby was on. Why do people automatically think that anyone displaying an England flag is racist, it's just becoming boring now.
