A bowl full of mini pastries

Not so much AIBU because I’m doing it anyway. But it’s a public holiday here in South Africa. My husband has gone for the day doing his sport. The weather has turned grey. I’m sitting on the couch eating a freshly airfryed bowl of mini pastries. Cheese puffs are my favourite, I’m going to leave them until last. Sausage rolls my least favourite. I’m going to eat them first.

Mini chicken pie sounds awesome! I've not actually seen those in UK..not bite sized anyway. Only like a pastie which is bigger.

My fave beige snacks are breaded onion rings and waffle fries! 🤤

I hope you enjoyed them!

Oh you must have something similar in the UK? We have Woolworths here but I’m sure you could get in others like Checkers. I’m in love with your big M&S stores… would be very surprised you don’t get a mixed mini pastry selection!

There’s always one 🤨🤨

It’s ok. I convinced her to run a half marathon so she could allow herself to enjoy a naughty treat.

Woolworths in SA is basically M&S isn’t it? Very confusing for Brits because we had a shop called Woolworths years ago (long gone), which was a very different kind of store. We don’t have Checkers in UK but we do have Lidl which has a lovely bakery counter 😋

Goldfsh · 27/04/2026 13:35

YABVVVU not to eat the cheese puffs first

Oh no it has to be beer battered onion rings for a nice snack 😋

Greenrad · 27/04/2026 13:37

I think they needed a few minutes more. Enjoy.

They are pretty similar and occasionally there seems to be a link between the two and I can find a packet of Percy pigs in the sweet aisle. But like most things when it’s convenient and on your door step you forget what you have. Would love an M&S for a change…

I'm sure you can maybe in things like Iceland. Lidls do little cheese parcels. Maybe M&S too. We definitely have sausage rolls and cheese rolls. I love borek as well. But the ones here aren't usually bite sized.

We used to have a shop called Woolworths but it didn't sell groceries. It was great though! X

Yup I lived in London for. 8 years and definitely not the same kind of Woolworths. Our Woolworths has a bit of a cult-like grocery store status. Don’t think too many tourists leave SA without good things to say about it.

I didn't say too full to eat them, I said too full to enjoy them. I'd still eat them.

I would enjoy them, it would be later when regret set in.

Ah ha, so you remembered the pick n mix, music singles and random garden equipment! I have heard your one is really good. I might be hallucinating but I thought they had them in Australia also?

I’d be the size of a horse if I ate that lot.

No you wouldn't. Not unless you ate several plates of them every day for years.

WhatDoRacoonsSay · 27/04/2026 15:51

Glitterella · 27/04/2026 12:55

2 mini sausage rolls and one mini chicken pie already gone

Rude not to share with me tbh.
I love puff pastry, I've been known to cook some and have it just with gravy on and call it dinner.

Theresmagicwheretheflowersgrow · 27/04/2026 16:00

Glitterella · 27/04/2026 13:38

Definitely.

Actually I think they look perfectly cooked. I've had my air fryer for a couple of years now and still burn lots of things, it cooks so quickly.
OP, I'm very jealous of you having not only a delicious snack selection but also a Woolworths! I think we'd have to shop in Iceland for similar - I might make my way there tomorrow Smile

icouldholditwithacobweb · 27/04/2026 12:59

Voted YABU because obviously you need to eat the best ones first for maximum enjoyment of them!

I completely disagree. I always save the best for last, always end your meal or snack on a high note not with disappointment!

ScotiaLass · 27/04/2026 16:14

I am disappointed they are savoury. From your subject line I was picturing mini pain au chocolate, pecan plaits and cinnamon twirls. I take it savoury is more you thing though, and I hope you enjoy them!

Lots of supermarkets do mini pies around Christmas time.

Delphiniumandlupins · 27/04/2026 16:27

I am surprised they are only one mouthful, don't think I have a small mouth. I would want something to dip them in and probably eat one of each, starting with least favourite, to finish with the best. Might actually check the freezer for some kind of party snack selection, for dinner.

Giraffeandthedog · 27/04/2026 16:30

You forced me to go to M&S. They did have mini coronation chicken pies, but they are cold, like a pork pie. Nice though.

likelysuspect · 27/04/2026 16:31

BarnacleBeasley · 27/04/2026 12:56

YABU OP - what if you get too full to fully enjoy the cheese puffs? I'm not saying you won't eat them anyway, but it would be annoying to have filled up on sausage rolls and then not be hungry any more. The way round this is to eat one of each, in ascending order of preference so that you still end on a cheese puff, but you get to enjoy some as you go along.

Good strategic pastry planning there. I like it.

Woolworths used to sell foods many years ago though. Woolies coleslaw was lovely

Littlewoods also used to sell food and again their deli counter was lovely

Used to have butchers and bakeries and everything, lovely they were

Glitterella · 27/04/2026 17:12

Just a food update. Husband came home asking what was for supper.

Obviously we had pancakes (frozen from Woolworths 😂) with strawberry’s and Nutella.

It’s been a good food day.
