I don’t think AIBU but my friend has made me feel like shit. I have been at home with DS and DH and struggled today because of hayfever and generally struggling with asthma. Not yet gone to an and e as DS not long in bed and he worries about me. Told DH I am likely to go to a and e once I think DS is asleep.

Been texting my friend generally and she said I am being ridiculous. I have diagnosed brittle/severe asthma and I have taken 15 puffs of reliever and cannot speak well. Friend said I am being “pathetic” and should just see if I can get a GP appointment tomorrow.

Feel even more like shit now. Am I wasting time?

Fellow asthmatic here. Of course you should go to a&e.

Asthma kills.

itwasyourshowallalong · 26/04/2026 22:28

A&E now please

butidid · 26/04/2026 22:29

You should go immediately. Do not delay for any reason.

3luckystars · 26/04/2026 22:31

Go now and don’t discuss it with anyone who doesn’t have brittle asthma. Go now.

GO NOW TO HOSPITAL

endofthelinefinally · 26/04/2026 22:31

Agree with pp. You need to go now.
Is your friend a qualified asthma clinician?
It sounds as if they haven't a clue.

ItsPickleRick · 26/04/2026 22:31

Your friend is a dick.

Go to A&E.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 26/04/2026 22:31

Definitely go

Asthma isnt one of the conditions people take seriously, so just ignore your friends xx

gamerchick · 26/04/2026 22:31

Go now. We kind of need to breathe. Even the bravest.

FloralDeerPattern · 26/04/2026 22:32

My neighbour died from an asthma attack a few years ago, she was only in her late teens. Go. You are always better safe than sorry.

MaCheCazzo · 26/04/2026 22:32

Go. Go now. Get treated. When you are stable again have a good strong word with yourself about how you classify 'friends'.

Hope you are ok.

PlumPlumb · 26/04/2026 22:32

Go go go.

Take a comfy jumper, headphones a book and a phone charger.

TrobadoraBeatrice · 26/04/2026 22:32

Go now. GO!

She has COPD and said she thinks “I play on having asthma”

Edited

She is ignorant and a rubbish friend.

StolenTeapots · 26/04/2026 22:33

This person is NOT your friend.

Go to hospital.

Delete them.

When you are better start a thread about finding new friends.

Bloodycrossstitch · 26/04/2026 22:34

Ydnbu.
I don’t think people who haven’t had real experience with asthma realise the potential seriousness of it.
Not that that excuses her deciding she knows more about the health issues you live with every day than you do.

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 26/04/2026 22:36

Get off here and get straight to A and E.
If you can't breathe properly, that's serious.
Asthma kills.
Ignore your so called "friend", they're anything but.

She's an arsehole and not your friend. Get to A and E.

GrueyTwoey · 26/04/2026 22:40

Type 2 brittle asthmatic here.
Your friend is an arse, as is your DH.
Asthma kills, go to A&E.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/04/2026 22:41

15 puffs sounds like a lot; is that part of your medication protocol? If it's more, then it's serious and needs treatment ASAP. 999 will take it seriously.

CatChant · 26/04/2026 22:44

Go now. Immediately.

Asthma kills.

3luckystars · 26/04/2026 22:56

Your child needs you. Get to the hospital immediately and dump this bitch tomorrow.

Good luck x

xOlive · 26/04/2026 23:01

Go to A&E.
At my worst, I was using up a new inhaler (200 puffs) every 4 days as I had everyone telling me “it can’t be that bad”. I ended up stopping breathing in my sleep, ambulance came out blah blah I learned to tell those people to shut the fuck up.

Asthma kills.
Go to A&E, I hope you feel better really soon and tell your friend to piss off!

Talkingfrog · 26/04/2026 23:07

In those circumstances I would get checked out tonight rather than wait to call a gp in the morning. The best place to do that is a&e.

When we phone the GP, the first part of the recorded message says if you are having trouble breathing to call 999.

Not saying you should call for an ambulance, because from what you have indicated, it isn't needed. Also you will probably get there quicker without one. What you don't want is to wait, and as a result need an ambulance.

Livpool · 26/04/2026 23:08

Thanks all - in an and e and on a nebuliser so will be telling her to piss off!
