AIBU to be shocked by public celebration of Michael Jackson?

Now the MJ film is out my social media feed is flooded with people doing the dances and talking about the movie etc. My local cinema is holding special events and screenings.

I personally have no doubt that he was a predatory paedophile. All the signs are there, especially how he talks about how he would never hurt a child and sharing a bed with them is the "most loving thing you can do in the world". He manipulated the world into thinking he had a "child-like persona" but was able to manage a music career worth millions... which someone who is naive would never be able to manage.

I also do not judge people who enjoy his music. It was very popular at the time, and would be associated with all types nostaligic memories. I listen to problematic artists all the time, but I don't pretend that they weren't abusive.

AIBU to be astounded that any business/media outlet would be seen dead even associating with him let alone celebrating such a horrifically abusive man.

Do we even know what prompted what....?
Could the film.have been made in response to or in anticipation of needing a lot of money in the estate....

You see people who accept Jackson behaved inappropriately with children but can't quite be totally sure he was guilty I can just about comprehend.

I might disagree with them and believe them to be mistaken but I don't think they are necessarily coming from a place of hatred.

Diehard fans on the other hand.... I think it is clear for anyone reading this thread before recent messages were deleted, that these attitudes are far from normal and very disturbing. It is no wonder his victims didn't want to speak out.

What’s so funny?
Just an every day picture of a man and a baby.
If anyone else on planet earth carried on like this, the entire world would be horrified for this baby.
But awwww poor Little Peter Pan Jackson.

The world was horrified and then rather than him be mortified about it or sorry or think 'I took a bit of a risk there', he got angry, see the clip of him furiously jiggling the poor child up and down on his knee while feeding him (too flat), face covered in a bit of fabric, angry angry angry about people accusing him of being an unfit parent.

Yes but nobody knows if they’re telling the truth though do they.
A jury came back with a not guilty verdict after a lengthy trial.
Obviously that doesn’t prove he never did anything to any of the accusers, but it doesn’t mean he’s definitely guilty either

Why is it different for Saville then

Don't forget he kept saying "i love you" to the baby while doing all that , which obviously proved what a loving, kind and involved father he was 🤨

I dont remember seeing it in the documentary at the time, I only saw it recently, was it a shown at the time on the Bashir programme?

I was really shocked, just awful behaviour.

Reading back on Lisa Marie. She was happy in her time with him but said that she would not agree to have children as her gut told her he was so controlling and he would end up taking them. She did say he.... as i posted before had a completely different persona to the baby boy vibe in interviews . He was intelligent and very charismatic and his speaking voice was wholly different.

She also stated he was a virgin at 35. She added that had she thought hed carried out abuse shed have "killed him"....how many wives have said that, knowing nothing about their dark side?

Poor Lisa, used as a collectable by huge Elvis fan Nicholas Cage. First though Michael Jackson connects with her......one wonders if he got with her to father Elvis's grandchild....what a dynasty that would have been eh?

Strange though that a huge pop star hadnt had sex with woman or man at the age of 35? Suddenly wanting to be a father with Elvis Presleys only child?

theodextrey · 11/05/2026 18:34

It’s certainly strange! The timing of their marriage is also peculiar. He married Lisa Marie in 1994, while Michael Jackson was under investigation in 1993 and 1994.

Fizbosshoes · 11/05/2026 18:37

In one of the recent docu-series they (im pretty sure people from his team, or publicists) definitely talked about somehow trying to strategically rebuild, or reframe his image, to deflect from the negative publicity he was getting.

fundamentallyauthentic · 11/05/2026 18:37

In her memoir, LMP says she was never happier than when she was married to Jackson, and she mentions nothing of the 'persona' that's been mentioned on here. She said she "felt shattered' after his death. Also worth noting is that he started pursuing her about six to twelve months before the first allegations emerged and that she was one of the people who persuaded him to settle the Chandler case. Their love was mutual, according to her.

Well being as he has appeared to be interested in women as brood mares, its not beyond it to think Elvis's daughter would be a good call.

The timing is strange, maybe if he appeared as a "happily married man" it would appear that he might not be interested more in children than adults?

theodextrey · 11/05/2026 18:41

If I remember correctly, someone claimed their marriage was mostly phone based

You should hear Priscilla when she gets started about him🤣

Her view is that Lisa doubles down on it all.

theodextrey · 11/05/2026 18:53

I wonder if Lisa Marie was encouraged by the church of Scientology ( I have no idea just speculating) to be with Michael

it came out last year that Lisa Marie’s daughter sold John Travolta one of her eggs to produce a Presley/Travolta child (born 2010)who lives in Florida.

He allegedly originally wanted Lisa Marie’s egg but due to her history of drug use thought they may be damaged. I know it sounds bonkers.

fundamentallyauthentic · 11/05/2026 18:56

My opinion about LMP's feelings for Jackson is from the horses mouth, as it were, rather than from anyone else. LMP also describes Jackson as "normal" which may difficult for some people here to comprehend.

MargoChanningsglass · 11/05/2026 19:07

I know Jackson tried to use her as a brood mare but how rude to refer to her as a horse😪

Jackson was a virgin when he met her at 35.

Hed no interest in women

Suddenly falls in love with Elvis daughter🤣

Ive a nice bridge to sell.

Come here little kiddies, on my lap
Guess who's back with a brand new rap?
And I don't mean rap as in a new case of child molestation accusation
(AH-AH-AH-AH-AH)
No worries, papa's got a brand new bag of toys
What else could I possibly do to make noise?
I done touched on everything, but little boys
That's not a stab at Michael
That's just a metaphor, I'm just psycho

Eminem, Just Lose It.

Lisa Marie also said he was a master at manipulating the media etc and due to his manipulation she always thought he didn't love her until he died. I think she remained a very confused woman after that headfuck of a relationship, but Priscilla seemed to see straight through him.

The other poster made me go down an interview rabbithole as I started to doubt myself

I watched her say these words

She was mesmorised by him, it was romantic on her part. Having been Elvis daughter she wanted to be with someone bigger than her. She wanted to save him

She was happy with him when he was "on" and was in love with him

She was asked if it was a normal marriage and said "when he was in town" he stayed at her place (!)

Asked where it started to go wrong, he wanted children and something told her it wasnt right. His words to her were "if you won't do it Debbie will"

A prince among men and as i suspected, wanted her for her child and would have been offski as its not women (or men) hes interested in.

If Elvis had still been alive the Memphis Mafia would have rookied him😆

kkloo · 11/05/2026 21:05

@MargoChanningsglass And he was so desperate to have a baby with Lisa Marie that he'd walk around the house crying holding baby dolls 🙄

Michael said it in the book with the Rabbi. I'm sure he also said it on a TV interview.

I dont believe for one second he was a virgin, perhaps with a woman if thats what she means

Very sadly its likely he was sexually abused as a child I think. I think it was inferred, if not directly said, that when he was youner he had to share rooms/beds with his much older brothers who were having sex in front of him.

With respect I dont know if she would have been a reliable barometer of what a healthy relationship was.
