@newornotnew Thanks isn't it awful that elderly people are seen as some kind of inconvenience.

80+

There are two generations of retired people. Those who have retired in the last 15 years. Then those who have been retired 15 plus years. Both groups have different views etc.

Yet society treats all retired the same way

I’m retired, and I’ve been away this week. We got back home this morning and needed shopping. Should we have starved until Monday just to keep the important people happy?

Just for extra loathing points, I’m not only old I’m also a wheelchair user so I probably get in the way more than most.

They want to.

Some families like spending time together, even if the activities are routine.

They are joined at the hip and can't possibly separate except for work.

And they become the middle aged couples who remain joined at the tip and can't let hands for even two seconds to let someone pass on the pavement.

DeposedPresident · 25/04/2026 18:13

I'm currently baffled as to why one of my uncles has just married for the 8th time. He's a nasty sarcastic shithead with no redeeming features that i can see, and yet all of his wives have been lovely. It's not money either- he's on disability benefits and smokes and drinks.

Who looks at a man in his 80s who has been married and divorced 7 times before who smokes, and smells and shouts at people like shop workers and thinks 'That's the man for me?'.

You sound a bit triggered by couples who like each other!

Everyone is an inconvenience to everyone else! You are being far too sensitive.

When I drive, pedestrians and cyclists are inconvenient. And other drivers, some of the time.

When I walk, drivers are. And other pedestrians, some of the time.

Same when I cycle.

And equally when doing all of those thing I am a nuisance to someone else.

No I get triggered by people who block paths so I can't get past. See my other comment about pavement parkers too!

Christians who are homophobic but go to church weekly so clearly getting into heaven.

People who let in the cheeky bastard drivers. e.g. road works, so road down to one lane; we've all been queueing for ages at rush hour; a cheeky fecker drives at super fast speed down the lane which is soon blocked - signs & lights everywhere- sticks on their indicator & expects to be let in. We could all have tried to do that, mate, but we've waited our turn. Cue someone then letting them in!!!! Rage inducing. Happens every, single day at the minute!

Here, I found some information for you...

  • Merge in Turn: As recommended by the Highway Code (Rule 134) for congested conditions, this means using both lanes right up to the end and taking turns, which reduces congestion.

For clarity, if you have been in a queue, that would mean the conditions are congested, so the above would apply.

I hope this explains things for you and alleviates your frustration.

People loudly talking on phone or video calls on public transport and it drives me bonkers

People buying expensive pranks but a second hand car seat when they have no idea if it’s been in an accident.

newornotnew · 25/04/2026 18:19

igelkott2026 · 25/04/2026 18:10

Well, supermarkets are full of people in a hurry and screaming kids.

Libraries do have a kids section but the staff have time for you and they are generally much more pleasant. And there are U3A offerings and loads of hobbies.

Also, I wonder if you would call someone arrogant in real life?

No, didn't think so. It's baffling to me how rude people think it's acceptable to be when hiding behind a keyboard.

I think the way you're judging other people's legitimate choices as suboptimal is arrogant, and I'd be ok saying that in RL.

If they wanted to be doing U3A stuff at the library that's where they'd be. But they want to do their shopping on Saturday, so that's the best thing for them to do.

What do you mean by pranks?

Trallers · 25/04/2026 18:21

I don't understand people who don't reserve park into driveways and spaces (exception for if you need access to the boot and therefore need to park forwards). There are lots of driveways on to busy roads near me and it does make me wonder what the logic is when I see them struggling to reverse out onto the street with poor visibility and lots of cars passing, plus it's hard to see if a dog or small child is crossing behind etc. Why not just reverse in in the first place and then come out safely and easily. Some of these people are friends/acquaintances but I won't ask them in case it sounds judgy!

I think it was an autocorrect for 'prams'

That's not baffling, they are just selfish twotsits who need their cars crushing and their licences endorsing. It's the only way to stop it. I hate hate hate pavement parking, as you can perhaps tell!

It's legal in some circumstances, or in the very least 'ignored'.

That is acceptable. My parents are retired and only shopped on Saturday when, like you, returned from holiday.

When we have a meeting or training at work, some people bring their crisps and open it to eat it. All I can hear is crunching the crisps... its not lunchtime but they do that..

I've never understood people who voluntarily join the armed services. Don't get me wrong - I'm very thankful that they do! I just do not see the appeal because it is so far away from me and my world.

That's a broad statement. There are a LOT of different roles within the armed forces. You can have a great career with them.

My eldest currently wants to be an aircraft engineer with the RAF. I can't say I don't think it will be a good choice for him.

why do people on MN and local WhatsApp or WIWIKAU ask questions that Google could answer instantly.

@mondaytosunday Surely Google could answer most questions posted here? So MNs would be redundant

Google is 65% incorrect.

'Acceptable' Grin

It's acceptable to shop any day you want, whoever you are, however old, however slow.

@ForeverTheOptomist I think MNs might be lower! 😆
