People who tell everyone every intimate detail of their lives/relationships then complain that everyone knows their information or complain about all the drama in their lives.

Then say, "Well, it's okay for you. You have no issues or drama in life..."

Yes, I do. I just don't talk about it to all and sundry.

On a related note - thinking that stuff you post on social media is still somehow 'private'. In 2026. There's been a few threads where the OP has complained that somebody has acted on something they'd posted on Facebook (or wherever), and part of their beef is that this is a 'misuse of their private information'. And they're able to vote/drive/have kids. The mind boggles.

lovealieinortwo · 25/04/2026 17:23

why do people on MN and local WhatsApp or WIWIKAU ask questions that Google could answer instantly.

@mondaytosunday Surely Google could answer most questions posted here? So MNs would be redundant

ItsJustMeMyself · 25/04/2026 17:25

Neighbours playing their shitty music in their gardens. Your taste of music is shit. You're a shit person for being rude.

Majority I see are couples. I don’t think it’s a social issue.

I don't understand why you think older people shouldn't shop on Saturdays?

Humans enjoy routines, if they've done that for sixty years, why do you need them to stop?

newornotnew · 25/04/2026 17:29

80+

There are two generations of retired people. Those who have retired in the last 15 years. Then those who have been retired 15 plus years. Both groups have different views etc.

Yet society treats all retired the same way

You really shouldn't stereotype in this crude way.

@Nitgel - what do you think the bell is for? It’s to warn you they are coming up behind you!
As for elderly people - as mentioned on another thread my parents shopped daily as part of their routine. And yes that would include a Saturday!
This has probably beeen mentioned as I have not read all of last thread but why do people on MN and local WhatsApp or WIWIKAU ask questions that Google could answer instantly. ‘What time does our high street Sainsbury’s close’ ‘Can my YP choose their insurance on results day’ ‘what tax do I have to pay if I sell X’…. And on here specifically: nub theory or ‘what should I name my baby/cat/puppy’ and ‘is there a line or…’?

The nub theory was right on my stepsons partners scan (despite him saying it was bullshit) but mine was totally wrong

I can't believe all this anti old people shopping bollocks. Its so entitled and self important to think only 'busy' people should shop when they want.

I think the point is that busy people shop when they can, not when they necessarily want.

I wouldn't say that people who don't work during the week shouldn't go to supermarkets at the weekend, but I'm surprised they choose to when it's all so much calmer during the week.

But the previous thread was full of the usual MN faux misunderstanding, with people saying "how dare you tell people when they can and can't shop!"

I beg to differ through voluntary work I meet a lot of elderly people with no one.
So because you see elderly couples you don't think loneliness is an issue🤯

That is NOT what the pp said or implied.

People who pull out in front of you and then drive like a snail. Drives me mad!

Whatexcellentboiledpotatoes · 25/04/2026 17:40

I saw on thread 1 that the reason whole families go shopping together has been explained on another thread. I can't find that thread.

Would someone please tell me why?

Puffalicious · 25/04/2026 17:48

People who let in the cheeky bastard drivers. e.g. road works, so road down to one lane; we've all been queueing for ages at rush hour; a cheeky fecker drives at super fast speed down the lane which is soon blocked - signs & lights everywhere- sticks on their indicator & expects to be let in. We could all have tried to do that, mate, but we've waited our turn. Cue someone then letting them in!!!! Rage inducing. Happens every, single day at the minute!

Social contact

is important for many elderly people that have no one so that wee chat with someone at the bus stop or checkout person may be the only people they'll speak to that day.
A bit more patience and understanding wouldn't go amiss

Someone in the last thread about 'baffling' complained about a couple who walked around their 'estate' and talked to people as they went.

It incensed me.

Someone else said that the thread was 'Judgy''. It was. Time after time.

Just needed to get that off my chest!

Am enjoying this thread! Thank you!

I didn't say I don't understand. I said I was surprised. I'm sure many do have reasons, but "because I've always done that" isn't a very good one. It's unnecessarily rigid and flies in the face of common sense.

But you're still going to infer that I'm saying they shouldn't arent you ...

For the record, anyone can shop anywhere at any time. And that is my firm opinion.

They want to.

Some families like spending time together, even if the activities are routine.

People who park on pavements and think that because they pull their wing mirrors in or leave the hazard lights on that makes it OK.

That's not baffling, they are just selfish twotsits who need their cars crushing and their licences endorsing. It's the only way to stop it. I hate hate hate pavement parking, as you can perhaps tell!

I've never understood people who voluntarily join the armed services. Don't get me wrong - I'm very thankful that they do! I just do not see the appeal because it is so far away from me and my world.

I think a lot of youngsters are considering it now because they can't find jobs anywhere else. And it does open a lot of opportunities.

But when they are other reasonably easily accessible options, I agree with you, it certainly wouldn't be my choice!

Because it's their routine is an excellent and most human of reasons.

Why would anyone change a routine that works for them?

Routines are excellent for mental health. They possibly see the same people on the bus each week. It possibly fits with their other activities. It possibly fits with going to cousin Sue's for a cuppa each week.

Why assume they are making a choice that isn't good sense? (No such thing as common sense, what people mean is 'why doesn't everyone see things my blinkered way?')

All the drivers queuing up way before the lane closes are ridiculous.

We are meant to use all the open lanes and merge in turn.

Who decides at which arbitrary point the lane should no longer be used?

Taking up smoking. With all that we know now, why does anyone think that this would be a good idea? It baffles me further that two of the most intelligent women I know are smokers. One is the same age as me (44) and the other is a few years younger, so both would have known about the health risks and other drawbacks before they started.

Anyone who smokes and is under the age of 50 has to be a special brand of stupid.

Even if you disregard the health issues with a "my great-uncle Peter smoked 40 a day and died in his 90s", it's bad for your skin and teeth and you look 60 when you are 35 and stink. So why do it?

And as for vaping, Yee Gods.

Nitgel · 25/04/2026 13:21

Use bicycle bells in the park to get you out of their way.

I hate that. But then there are loads of people who say "why didn't they use their bell" so I guess they can't win.

But today, I was walking along the canal towpath with my husband. I heard something behind and looked back. I did a double take as the person was moving quite quickly and saw it was a bike. So I moved over to one side. He still dinged his bell at me, even though he must have seen I'd seen him and moved over.

Some of them have so little spatial awareness.

Well, supermarkets are full of people in a hurry and screaming kids.

Libraries do have a kids section but the staff have time for you and they are generally much more pleasant. And there are U3A offerings and loads of hobbies.

Also, I wonder if you would call someone arrogant in real life?

No, didn't think so. It's baffling to me how rude people think it's acceptable to be when hiding behind a keyboard.
