As a proud Northerner i can say 80 per cent of my peer group will vote for Reform in May. Do you think it will be a North v South split?

Probably just your little bubble op 🤣🤣 there isn’t even a reform candidate in my neighbourhood and the Tory candidate is very quiet too

greens will win here.

youalright · 24/04/2026 07:41

I think the fact nigel farage wanted to take us all to war and backed trump should be enough to put anyone of voting reform. Thank god we was under a labour government at the time otherwise we probably wouldn't even be here to have this conversation

Itchthescratch · 24/04/2026 07:32

Like removing the two child cap. Something the majority of the population did not want removed and Labour said they wouldn't remove if they hit into power. Great, democratic decision there....

Raising taxes on business so now we have rampant unemployment. Increasing youth MW when young people are already struggling to get a job.

Yes, great work!

Yes, I was wondering what they have improved and for who. 🙄

The NHS is still a shitshow, schools say their situation is getting worse, taxes are rising, unemployment is rising and companies are going bust at a rate of knots 🙄

Plus, the renters reform change, whilst good on paper, is increasing evictions and homelessness, with landlords throwing the towel in now.

You’d have thought that would be enough to kill off his support but sadly a lot of this country have no political understanding.

Kirbert2 · 24/04/2026 01:30

Opposite for me. Northerner and everyone I know will continue to vote for labour as it is the least worst option.

I'm going Green this time. Considering Labour but they've done too much I dislike. Reform would be hell.

ThejoyofNC · 24/04/2026 07:41

justmeandthedogs · 24/04/2026 07:39

Also @hattie43i do not believe reform are a better option than the greens. They will entirely dismantle the NHS and move towards a private insurance system. How will the pensioners pay for that?

Oh, they’ll just demand a state funded system to help them out.

The state pension is the largest transfer of wealth from working people to one of the wealthiest generations in history.

The NHS is dead. Can't you see that?

Is it? Or is that what reform want you to think in order to get you to decide that getting rid of it wouldn’t be a disaster?

I work in the NHS. Yes there are some incredibly long waits (largely caused by Covid backlogs, still), but these are only for elective procedures that, really, aren’t that important.

Spot on.

So dispell the myth.
Outline a compelling and articulate argument as to why you intend to vote Reform. Show us the big picture of what they'll achieve for the country that goes beyond 'stop the boats' and 'traditional values'.
Describe their policies for the economy, housing, health, industry, education, defence, welfare.
Tell us how these will benefit our society.
Tell us how you think they'll achieve these things and the evidence you're using to decide they are capable of governing.

hattie43 · 24/04/2026 07:44

justmeandthedogs · 24/04/2026 07:38

Well the one tension age generation in this country IS the wealthiest generation in Britain. That’s a fact.

The benefits bill is so large because 48% of state benefits are the pension, which is protected by the triple lock. But nobody is ready for this conversation because, as I said - it’s one generation pulling the ladder up after themselves. They’re willing to bankrupt the nation in order to protect themselves. They’re happy for the most vulnerable in society to be relentlessly attacked in order to maintain status quo for themselves. Look at the absolute uproar to the removal of the winter fuel allowance for people earning more than £35k! That’s more than the median wage in this country. But for some reason they deserve £150 of tax payer money?

It was a Labour government giving the winter fuel allowance , no one else so look to them for their bad policies . It’s an old trope that all pensioners are wealthy . For those that are I’m sure they’ll be helping or passing it down to the next generation. But here’s a thing . Stop blaming older people , education is free , get a job and earn money . There’s a much stronger work ethic amongst older people so I don’t begrudge those who have provided for themselves .

My favourite line is that they’ll review every asylum claim from the last five years to “remove people”.

Okay, so the system is already overstretched and has had to have more people hired into it in order to get through them. How is adding 400,000 cases to that pile going to do anything other than delay the processing of asylum seekers, thus adding more people to the country? It’s hysterical.

So what system do you suggest for older generations?

MandingoAteMyBaby · 24/04/2026 07:46

Reform is a party of oligarchs representing the interests of oligarchs at the expense of the rest of us. It’s clear as day.

Of course it is. The entire thing is a joke. Can't get a GP appointment, 2 years for an operation, 24 hours in A&E. Stop blaming COVID. Sometimes you have to accept that every dog has it's day and the NHS is no longer a functional organisation.

Nobody is happy with it. Not the people receiving the service, nor those providing it. Out with the old and in with the new, I say.

lovealieinortwo · 24/04/2026 07:47

Also dont Reform want to end DB pensions in the public sector?

Obviously this ignores the many now retired who benefited from final salary schemes. Another ladder pulled up!

But how will that impact healthcare & education

So you don’t actually have an answer to the points I’ve made.

Either it’s “education is free, get a job and earn money” and people are passing wealth down, or the older generation are on the bones of their arse surviving on pennies? You can’t have it both ways.

The fact of the matter is 27% of pensioners as of 2024 were millionaires. (https://www.theferret.scot/27-per-cent-pensioners-millionaires-mostly-true/). Can you imagine if a millionaire family was claiming benefits? There would be absolute uproar. But for some reason, the second you turn 67 we have to be okay with millionaires claiming benefits.

12% of pensioners have holdings less than £40,000. Surely a fairer system would be that above a certain level, the pension drops (much like the personal allowance), and that money is redirected to the poorest in society?

Claim 27 per cent of pensioners are millionaires is Mostly True

The Labour government’s decision to scrap winter fuel payments for about 10 million pensioners in England and Wales has led to significant debate. Multiple articles and social media posts in support of the move suggested that a significant proportion...

I can get a GP appointment. I got one within 4 days.

I waited 3 weeks for an operation and have never waited more than 2 or 3 hours in A&E. Maybe what you’re presenting with just isn’t that serious and thus is triaged?

And here we have the exact issue…the superior attitude and treating anyone who wants to vote for reform as imbeciles who don’t understand what they are voting for. This is EXACTLY what happened with Brexit and look where that got the country!!!

Well if you did vote for Brexit you were an idiot. If you now vote for the chief architect for Brexit - Farage, after seeing how poorer the county has become and how illegal immigration has skyrocketed as a result of Brexit, then you’re an even bigger idiot.

I’m sick of pandering to the feeling of idiots. Their stupidity is impacting me and mine so I’ll shout it from the rooftops.

Idiot: ‘You make me feel bad with your latte drinking, Guardian reading ways, so I’m going to vote Reform, even if they want to take away my rights as a worker and sell the NHS to Trump - that’ll show you!’

Me; ‘You’re an idiot’.

This is nonsense and why we are where we are.

Despite that work ethic oft discussed the vast majority have not paid enough tax into the system for what they are taking out. When demographics change that is a problem.

AnythingButThis · 24/04/2026 07:50

Lizzypet · 24/04/2026 07:31

Yep. I won't be voting reform, and think it'll be an absolute disaster if they get in (I live in one of the Reform run councils & council tax has gone up..). But stereotyping, ridiculing and patronising people who are at their wits end and looking for change, is not the way to prevent a party like Reform getting in.

We still need to push back against what is effectively fascist adjacent ideology. The problem is often that, as with this OP, reform apologists don’t respond to any policy discussion. Years of austerity have led to them being ‘at their wits end’ presumably - I’m not sure the majority of supporters are - and nothing Reform are offering will address that just deepen it.

Am I out of touch? The vast majority of people I interact with are of the same opinion.
