Are there any genuine threads left?

I mean I started one about my cat but she's been fed now so the crisis is more or less over. So despite the genuine high drama of that one, I dont see many threads which seem genuine and fulfilling?

It’s a shame you can’t save apostrophes and exchange them for money. You’d have made £4 just from this thread. I think it’s a concept I might explore.

Yes rxactly although my work don’t let me do that. I was thinking more on the lines of Green Sheild stamps. Save them up for 8 years and buy a lamp. I’m going to take the idea to Dragons Den. It’s sure to be a winner.

I'll back you

I mean I dont have any money or influence or anything but still

Although now you mention it, I may well have some old green shield stamps hanging around.

I think I’m going to write a book titled ‘How I made a million (from butter and apostrophes)’. Then I’d have two income streams. Royalties and my apostrophe money. I’ll be rolling in it.

LadyMacbethWasFierce · 20/04/2026 22:18

I have posted a bit about the unexpected death of my daughter last October. Nobody has appeared to think my threads are not genuine. But I can see this might be quite an unusual situation and one where I am more likely to be believed. I do think there is something about the tone and the pace of threads where you can just tell if a poster is honest. Sadly my story is all too true.

Just waiting for some poster to pop up saying they can get by with only 20 apostrophes a week for a family of 6ft strapping teenagers.
Some people have no idea how to eke out their punctuation with lentils.

You can be my silent backer. I’ll tell Peter Jones that I already have an investor. That will impress him. He’ll realise quite quickly that he’d be mad not to jump on my apostrophe wagon. I’ll do a graph too. My mum once saved for 3 years to buy some plastic stools that came apart in the middle. They looked like giant - what are those things you turn upside down? To time things? With sand.

Yes or that they do heavy lifting so they really need extra. Around 120 a day or something.

There’s a woman at work who says she uses no more than 10 a week for a family of 8! Plus she’s got 26 guinea pigs. I really don’t believe her.

Yes! I’ve just Googled them. Tam Tam stool. They go for over £200 each. I should have kept them. Now I want one.

SheilaWilde · 20/04/2026 22:29

Ooh actually they’re not that expensive. EBay has one for £31. I’m tempted.

I've seen your posts. I hope no one would feel they aren't genuine.

Thank you @ilovesooty I think you might have left me comforting messages before too. There is a solace in the kindness of strangers.

I think 90 per cent are bul shit.

And possibly written by sometime with a job to make sure iabu and is busy and active to drive traffic

Ricecakes101 · 20/04/2026 22:53

I'm saying I think Mumsnet is behind it as they and their af revenue are the only beneficaries of the end endless drip feed turgid crap that gets spouted - mostly utter rage bait about potential ow or adult children deserting . There are enduring theme and then sporadic themes. I've started to see mn as a fictional magazine that I can chime in on.

There's always the option of reporting threads you don't think are genuine.

The problem with that is that it doesn’t alert others to the possibility of it being a troll. So that while MN Admin are taking a while to investigate, people continue to feed the troll. Also, it would be nice for the troll to know they hadn’t fooled everyone!

Thats a good point, like Take a Break or whatever it was called.

Yes there is a certain style of writing and the way updates are drip fed to keep the thread(s) churning over that marks them out. Not to mention things that don't quite add up.

I'm sorry for your loss, LadyM Flowers
