I mean I started one about my cat but she's been fed now so the crisis is more or less over. So despite the genuine high drama of that one, I dont see many threads which seem genuine and fulfilling?

Btw are you likely but usual?

I was going to ask the same thing. I remember you Lindor? I’ve name changed a few times over the years.

southcoastsammy · 20/04/2026 21:56

What? I assume most a real - why would anyone make it up???

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 20/04/2026 21:57

likelysuspect · 20/04/2026 21:50

I didnt say I corrected anyone.

I wouldnt have a problem with someone correcting mine

The majority of people dont know so would be helped by being corrected.

"Don't" should have an apostrophe.
Grin

So should "Didn't" and "Wouldn't".

PILEALLTHEPILLSONTHEFLOOR · 20/04/2026 21:54

oh yeah, that's right. I've seen women posting about their husbands and children dying and about half the comments are calling them liars. I mean so what if its a troll, if its not then you're just giving shit to someone in an situation you couldn't even comprehend

I think my next thread will be 'why are MN posters so humourless'.

OMG correcting people’s SPAG is an utterly wanky thing to do to someone.

Imagine being really bad at it all throughout your childhood and adult life.

Then you pop onto a chat forum either with a problem or just to pass the time, and yet another ‘do good’ asshole (maybe the fourth or fifth that day), wants to play teacher 🙄

Just leave them alone as long as you can understand what they’re saying.

Completely agree.

It is funny when a SPAG pedant corrects someone’s grammar and makes mistakes themselves in the same post. They don’t appreciate it when the irony is pointed out to them. 🤣 There’s a Facebook group about these people.

Greengrocers don't need them.
They tend to use superfluous ones.

Oh ok.

You said ‘including’ your own so I took that to mean you’re happy with it in general.

Vinividivici · 20/04/2026 22:01

I started an (unfortunately real) thread over the last few days!

In the past I have been accused of making fake threads under other names, but they are always completely real. (I have even seen one or two on the Reddit Mumsnet trolls sub!). I believe that this is because I have honed my ability to write compelling, if annoying, posts over 25+ years on message boards!

Edit: sorry for all the exclamation points!!!!

Yes they need lots of them, Pea's, Tomatoe's, Potatoe's

They keep them in storage over winter with the carrot's.

This year theyre running really short

They are mostly real. Very few people are invested in creating fake threads.

I dont correct anyone because a) its not allowed and I am a rule follower b) as you can see I dont use apostrophes and that appears to incense people. I know where theyre meant to be, but I dont use em.

If someone points it out, I just correct them to let them know I dont use them.

Where I used to live (double points if you remember that as a school programme. Shown on a tv on wheels) there was a daily market selling everything and anything including an abundance of fruit and veg. I could fill two big shopping bags for £10. Where I live now there’s no market and no greengrocers. So I only eat white bread and Marmite. Sometimes I toast the bread.

In the days of SMS, apostrophes cost money. Thus began their slide into obsolescence.

I'm going to have to hide this thread now.
I mean, you said you didn't mind being corrected.
What's the point, if you're just going to carry on being wrong?

Zov · 20/04/2026 22:07

I think overall, the majority of threads on Mumsnet are genuine, but on AIBU I think there are a few more (that are made up) than on other parts of Mumsnet.

You can often tell a fake one I think. Even on AIBU though, I believe a good number of threads are genuine.

SheilaWilde · 20/04/2026 22:07

@likelysuspect oh yes, I forget to add butter. I eat butter on both. Butter is a whole food group and half a meal.

You can point it out. I dont mind

Point it out some more

Doesnt mean I care about that particular thing. I dont use them on forums

Youd be better putting your energies into semi colons and colons (Im a martyr to my guts to be honest).
