AIBU to lock the porch after a friend kept taking our pushchair?

PushchairCF · 19/04/2026 11:54

We’ve had a porch for about 6 years, never locked it. Never needed to . All we’ve ever kept in the porch is wellies, umbrellas and a cheap little folding pushchair. It is very handy as light to carry if getting public transport and fits in car well too. We use it every 2-3 days.

NDN is a long term friend , nice but can be difficult sometimes. Had a period of time where she tried her luck wanting to borrow money I just had to keep saying no.

Her pushchair broke and she asked to borrow ours ‘till the end of the month’ I said sorry we use it a lot so wouldn’t be able to . I mentioned they are quite cheap and it was on offer somewhere too she just ignored.

went to go out one day last week and it was gone ! I called her and She had taken it for the school run - I went round and got it back, told her that was not ok and she did the same the next day. On Friday I had to look for the keys and have started locking the porch door. She text me this morning to ask why I’ve locked the door !!!! I said ‘to stop you taking the pushchair as we need it’ she’s called me selfish as I have 2 pushchairs. I don’t have 2, i used to but the other was so big and heavy we got rid of it months ago.

She's lucky you didn't report to police, letting herself into your fucking house and taking things. Cheeky bitch!

Beachtastic · 19/04/2026 14:12

Congratulations on scoring the first 100% YANBU I've ever seen 😜 and well deserved! 💐

MrsVBS · 19/04/2026 14:13

Why are you even explaining or justifying to her, no decent friend would do this, she sounds a complete CF, keep the porch locked and she’ll get the hint.

You could have ten pushchairs, it doesn’t matter, they’re yours. Tell her to buy her own bloody pushchair.

Edited

Yeah, exactly, even if OP lived in an actual pushchair showroom with them in every room floor to ceiling, people still can't just come and take them!

Neemon · 19/04/2026 12:02

She has absolutely no right at all to just take it. BUT she doesn’t really sound like a “long term friend” if you aren’t willing to help her out.

OP needed it herself!

The brighter is a CF

sesquipedalian · 19/04/2026 14:17

OP, your NDN is massively out of order. As for asking you why you’ve locked your porch - the brass neck of some people! I’d make sure your porch stays locked, and ensure you just don’t engage with her in future. You had told her you need to use YOUR OWN pushchair: that should have been enough. She really is the cheekiest of CFs.

Hotandpointy · 19/04/2026 14:24

Unfortunately, some people have the mindset that if you show them kindness, they see it as weakness and assume they can walk all over you. Sad but true.

VickyEadieofThigh · 19/04/2026 14:32

As I write, there are 876 votes and 100% believe YANBU, OP.

She's a cheeky fucker.

AprilMizzel · 19/04/2026 14:33

I would be furious that she thought it was okay to take yours after you'd specifically told her she couldn't borrow it. And then she has the temerity to be angry that you've locked your door?

This.

I think short term locking the door is probably all that needed and keeping distance from the woman as she is clearly a CF.

How strange....in your first post you referred to this person as a 'friend'.....
Really??

What??

Diosmonet · 19/04/2026 14:43

Lock and Block.

But not before telling her that the next time she attempts to enter your property, you will be phoning the police.

The OP can't help her out though as she uses the pushchair herself!

HoskinsChoice · 19/04/2026 14:50

I bet she stores her bike in her sisters house without asking too.

Pasta4Dinner · 19/04/2026 14:51

She probably doesn’t want to store it too. FB is full of cheap/free pushchairs.

Allseeingallknowing · 19/04/2026 14:51

asdbaybeeee · 19/04/2026 13:44

Have you told her it’s your only pushchair?

Even if it wasn’t she had no right to steal it!

This is #bekind taken to outer space.

The friend isn’t behaving like a friend…

Parsleyforme · 19/04/2026 15:25

Asking for money and stealing your stuff when told no… not much of a friend! Lock the door and block her number or the CFery will continue!

She was willing to help her out and let her borrow it.

BernadetteJune · 19/04/2026 15:29

She is being a total cf! She could find a cheap one in charity shops or facebook market. Cannot believe she has the cheek to even ask why you have locked the porch!! Some people!

You must have missed the part where she said she let her borrow it when she wasn’t using it. Don’t mix up friend and doormat

MyDeftDuck · 19/04/2026 15:41

I’d have tied the pushchair up with a dozen or so cable ties and watched her try to unfold it 😂😂 but then I do have a wired sense of humour.

Seriously though, she is a CF for not taking no for an answer……makes you wonder what else she might help herself to! Keep the porch locked!

Are you the neighbour?

The OP should clearly let the neighbour take the pushchair which she needs and uses, rather than just buying her bloody own.
