To think no one can SERIOUSLY want Starmer to go now, it’s media created instability designed to damage the UK.

trump, wars, Israel invading Lebanon, US mid terms…….

it would mental for Starmer to go and it’s a trap.

yabu - of course Starmer has to go, despite what is happening in the world right now.

yanbu - time to move on and deal with trump and the blatant manipulation of the media by Russia, right wing billionaire interests.

Not being UK resident/exposed to that much UK MSM I'm not really seeing this great job he's meant to be.doing diplomatically on the world stage.

Given the Labour party position post Blair/Iraq there he was (rightly) wasn't going to find it difficult stick with the General NATO line of "not our conflict" and he has allowed the use of bases in the UK for operations against Iran.

He's certainly not leading NATO/European leaders on the diplomatic front, he's one of the general crowd of leaders travelling around, making statements.....

I'm not criticising him for the above, but let's not get carried away that he's some sort of collosus leading the stand against Trump.

When both Badenoch and Farage would have been right there with Trump (heck, Bliar was also calling for us to get involved in Iran), we're just glad to have a PM who isn't openly sucking a US president off.

Heatedrival · 18/04/2026 18:10

I don’t want him to go. I think the press are awful.

FlorenceLawrence · 18/04/2026 18:25

I hate Starmer with a passion, and I do think he's lying through his teeth, but I dread to think who would replace him.

Anyone who disagrees with you is a bot? Interesting…

He is useless but I'm struggling to think of any PM since Blair who was an inspiring leader. I'm not Z Blair fan but I can see he had a vision and was on top of his government.

Freysimo · 18/04/2026 18:40

I think Mandelson must have some serious dirt on Keir for him to have risked his premiership for him.

Dullmary · 18/04/2026 18:43

Completely agree, OP. The people who want him gone seem to want it for the pettiest of reasons in the grand scheme of things. This is not the time for that.

Myoldbear · 18/04/2026 18:43

AnotherName2025 · 18/04/2026 17:58

I'm honestly not sure, there's no one from any party (or no party in fact) that I would nominate for PM.

However, that doesn't mean I have to agree with your statement & am not worried that people think like you

no one can manage the world stage any better right now

Someone has to lead the country though.

Of course I know you don't have to agree with me and many others that Starmer is doing the best job of anyone available

However, the most interesting thing to me is that you don't have any ideas on who would do a better job at present.

That's the standard accusation on this type of thread.

Looking at the daily mail comments
Please Trump come save us
Starmers a coward
And so on and so on.
No right thinking people wouldn't wish Trump on anyone.
Not getting involved in Trumps mess is a good thing.
Oh the other common comment..Election Now.
Nope that's not how democracy works.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 18/04/2026 18:48

He turned things round with his attitude to Trump but the Mandelson stuff has shown him as either unwilling or unable to access vetting info - not a good look.

It’s the opposition’s job to oppose.
It’s the media’s job to scrutinise.

It’s not a Russian plot.
It’s not any different from what the Conservatives endured.

Yep people were up for that media scrutiny.

MandingoAteMyBaby · 18/04/2026 19:07

I think he’s doing a decent job, really don’t get all the flak he’s subjected to.

snowbear22 · 18/04/2026 19:09

Starmer's going to go either now or after their May local election results which are going to be appauling.
Maybe the back benchers have a decision to make about what is better for them, to hang on to useless Starmer and have poll results down or freshen it up before then with a new leader.

No new leader is going to rehabilitate the Labour Party at this stage. Especially considering the available candidates.

LlynTegid · 18/04/2026 14:52

Almost two-thirds of those who voted in the last general election did not want him in the first place.

As for replacing a Prime Minister when there is a war overseas, it would not be the first. Margaret Thatcher being replaced by John Major is an example.

I don't think the likely Labour replacement at this time would be any better.

I recollect having May, then Johnson, then Truss, then Sunak foist upon me as a prime minister as a result purely of the votes of a few thousand Tory party members. Yes May and Johnson subsequently won elections but only as sitting prime ministers.

There is not enough time to change leader before May 7.

Atleastthedoglikesme · 18/04/2026 19:37

I think this labour government is trying to think long term. I have never, ever had so many government consultations to respond to (curriculum review, SEND review, speech therapy review, social care review, neurodiversity task and finish group, and so on) which makes me think that they actually want to find out from people doing the jobs what works and what doesn't. This of course means that they look indecisive as things take time, but the new SEND review is largely really positive and the government has put their money where their mouth is - eg in our LA we will get around 5 million extra to support putting policies into place. After Tory austerity and swathing cuts to LA services it feels hopeful, for a change, in the education sector. And it's a poison bloody chalice of course, but I am impressed. And very relieved that we aren't sending our young men to Iran to fight Trump's war.

I think we need to give this lot a full term. They had to start with the country in such a piteous position after Brexit and COVID.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 18/04/2026 15:23

He has 403 Labour MPs. He’s not failed to get any policies through parliament. He’s not failed to hold cabinet together.

Him not being popular with people who didn’t vote for him/Labour in the first place is a cheap excuse to get him to go.

He’s not failed to get any policies through parliament

Welfare reform?

Keir Starmer has been forced to abandon the central plank of his welfare bill to get it past its first Commons hurdle...

Are you saying that you think the British media want to damage the U.K.?
Do you not think turning a blind eye to people who are friends with rapists has something to do with it?

I’m pissed off at Starmer for being such a terrible politician. He’s so bad at politics and just so unappealing. Sure you could blame some of that on the media but he grew up in this country and should know what the media is like. It’s just dumb not to be aware of how stories are put out there. He’s only got himself to blame for most of them, I wish he was a bit more savvy as I do agree that there’s no one obvious who is better and I find some of the other parties very unappealing.

MyLimeGuide · 18/04/2026 19:48

I hope Starmer stays. Because he is so unbelievably useless there is more chance of Labour not getting re elected at the next GE.
