trump, wars, Israel invading Lebanon, US mid terms…….

it would mental for Starmer to go and it’s a trap.

yabu - of course Starmer has to go, despite what is happening in the world right now.

yanbu - time to move on and deal with trump and the blatant manipulation of the media by Russia, right wing billionaire interests.

@TemperanceWest agree. I can't read it any more. It's been captured fo sho. Not sure by whom. 🤔

Somedreamer · 18/04/2026 16:55

Starmer should stay.
I’m no great fan, but I really doubt we’d be in a better position without him.
This Mandleson nonsense is designed to destabilise the government.

Figgygal · 18/04/2026 16:56

This entire "scandal" is Westminster bubble bollocks

I hate the media at the moment it's so toxic

singthing · 18/04/2026 16:56

It seems like the main reason some people to want him to stay is "there's no better option" or "been too much change".

Neither are exactly ringing active endorsements of him as a leader, politician or even person. He's just...what's left after you take all the other dross away. Great.

Myoldbear · 18/04/2026 16:59

AnotherName2025 · 18/04/2026 16:33

Then we really are fucked.

Well who do you think would do better, and why?

luckylavender · 18/04/2026 16:59

Dillydollydingdong · 18/04/2026 14:49

Sorry, misread the question. But the same applies. I'd love to see Starmer go but who would replace him? Diane Abbot? Nightmare! Rachel Reeves? The Ginger Whinger? Lammy? 😫

Well it obviously won’t be Abbott. Unlikely to be Reeves or Lammy. As for your nickname for Angela Rayner - pretty puerile, says a lot about you. It won’t be her either though as she hasn’t been exonerated for her tax affairs yet. Try harder.

Not at all. I think Starmer is doing a bloody great job diplomatically on the world stage, while clearly making his values known, and keeping Trump at arm's length. I think he's done an outstanding job.

Re. Mandelson, I don't really see it as a scandal that falls at Starmer's feet. It's a fucking mess, and he's a slimey fucker, and clearly some processes have gone wrong somewhere - but we don't know much more than that?

Ah yes, Rayner, who was clearly so evil by dodging her obviously clear tax affairs that even HMRC seem to be unable to decide if she did anything wrong, MONTHS later. Fucks sake.

Papyrophile · 18/04/2026 17:10

I'm not keen on SKS but don't want him ousted. It's not as if there are hordes of better candidates in his party. And they have a large majority.

Moooooooooooooooooo · 18/04/2026 17:14

It’s amazing how cherished Starmer is. So beloved by everyone is he that virtually the whole of Westminster knew of Mandelson’s failed vetting and not one of them wanted to disappoint the Prime Minister so they didn’t tell him. You all might as well believe in fairies and that elephants can fly if you think he didn’t know. You have all been lied to and are quite happy about it. More fool you.

Saying there's no better option is no reason to keep a weak and incompetent individual in post. Very few people could be worse.

I don't think people are saying that Starmer is cherished. What they are saying is now is nit the time to be having a leadership contest.

The "whole of Westminster" didn't know. Robbins and the FCDO security team did.

If the "whole of Westminster" knew, I feel certain that Badenoch would have raised it at PMQs.

Whether she did or didn't do anything wrong, surely we want to stop this procession of underwhelming PM's who aren't up to the job and then resign. Rayner won't be any different.

The Independent story in September last year made it possible gor the whole country to know, never mind the whole of Westminster.

That is the one thing that is baffling me. Do you have a link to it? I haven't read exactly what it said.

notimagain · 18/04/2026 17:35

Not being UK resident/exposed to that much UK MSM I'm not really seeing this great job he's meant to be.doing diplomatically on the world stage.

Given the Labour party position post Blair/Iraq there he was (rightly) wasn't going to find it difficult stick with the General NATO line of "not our conflict" and he has allowed the use of bases in the UK for operations against Iran.

He's certainly not leading NATO/European leaders on the diplomatic front, he's one of the general crowd of leaders travelling around, making statements.....

I'm not criticising him for the above, but let's not get carried away that he's some sort of collosus leading the stand against Trump.

BIossomtoes · 18/04/2026 16:42

No government in living memory has been close to winning 50% of the vote share.

Actually, I just fact checked this. You're wrong.

Who out of the current lot can be better though?
Rayner? Wes? BP? they are even scarier then Starmer

NoWordForFluffy · 18/04/2026 16:48

There have been a number in the 40+% though. It doesn't change my point that FPTP gives big majorities on low % votes, however.

I voted for AV. Did you?

AV doesn't bring proportional representation though.

Isn't it quite the indictment of modern politics that a party which has as many MPs as Labour does, doesn't actually have anybody of a sufficient quality who could succeed the current PM?

AnotherName2025 · 18/04/2026 17:58

Myoldbear · 18/04/2026 16:59

Well who do you think would do better, and why?

I'm honestly not sure, there's no one from any party (or no party in fact) that I would nominate for PM.

However, that doesn't mean I have to agree with your statement & am not worried that people think like you

no one can manage the world stage any better right now

Kneenightmare · 18/04/2026 18:00

The constant attack on Starmer makes me think I dreamed the 14 years of total Tory failure and corruption, destroying the economy through austerity, Brexit and Truss and Kwateng helping their mates to cash in on our misery. Democracy means accepting what people voted for. Many of us had to live with that for 14 years with our heads in our hands watching the UK become a joke on the world stage. All you Starmer and Labour haters have had to put up with him for less than two years so suck it up. If Kemi or Nige had been in charge we’d have blindly followed Trump into war and things would be much worse.

AV doesn't bring proportional representation though.

It's still a step up from FPTP though for voter choice. Sadly the Tories wouldn't allow the vote to be for PR.
