DP's neice claims her pet is better than DD's because it uses a litter tray. It sounds silly but DD is truly upset (she loves her pet greatly) and it has all escalated. At this point I can't see any option but going NC. AIBU?

YANBU.

Do it.

SimonWigglesBaratoneVoice · 18/04/2026 10:14

My pet is better than both of them so everyone should go NC with me.

LoveYouPickle · 18/04/2026 10:15

@SimonWigglesBaratoneVoice actually I think you'll find mine is so I'm going nc with EVERYONE

goodnightssleepbenice · 18/04/2026 10:15

Mmmm this seems a bit much , how old are these girls ?

Easilyforgotten · 18/04/2026 10:16

Their pet may use a litter tray but your DD's is prettier, has a longer tail, whatever. You are then comparing apples and oranges so both can be 'better' at their own thing but there is no direct comparison.
Entertaining this in any way is nonsense.

PollyBell · 18/04/2026 10:17

Is this a reverse inside joke thing only some of us knows what is going on?

TittyGajillions · 18/04/2026 10:21

I think settling these things with a cage fight is way better than immediately jumping to no contact.

Bunnyotter1896 · 18/04/2026 10:21

You just need to parent you daughter throught that. Explaining that its not a competition. She knows her pet is great and that's all that matters. Some people (niece) are still learning and whilst she is being unkind she maybe doesnt realise how she is coming across(what age are they?). Encourage your daughter to listen to her own opinion and ignore your nieces. No need for an arguement. I would just encourage my daughter to say something along the lines of "that great he/she uses the litter tray. Do you want to go to the park?" Aka change the subject. Remind her she is lucky to have her lovely pet and not to get into a whos pet is better debate. No need to go nc for that. Noone would have family if we fell out of that. My son and niece used to fight like cat and dog but it was never a drama for the adults we just helped them sort it. Each telling their own kid to stop doing thier part

If this is really genuine then no I would not go no contact over my pet is better than yours

Cedarwoodandmoss · 18/04/2026 10:34

My pet is better than both of them as mine doesn’t have to use a litter tray so there’s no poo in my house. Far more hygienic.

The only reason to go low contact over a pet is if someone is an animal abuser or the pet is dangerous.

DuckyDolittle · 18/04/2026 10:37

My goldfish is no contact with me. I've tried face to face conversation, an informal text message, a formal solicitors letter, he responds to nothing. Our relationship is very one way and transactional and I'd go no contact with him back except we have a codependent relationship where he needs food and I need to see him looking all pretty and swimmy.

FaceIt · 18/04/2026 10:40

Jesus! Are you serious?
So every time someone upsets her, she goes no contact!?

Speak to her about human relationships and different people having different opinions. Young people can lack tact, it’s part of being young, and she needs educating. People will hurt her, but she needs to learn resilience.

ilovepixie · 18/04/2026 10:41

What fecking ages are you 🙈🙈

BillieWiper · 18/04/2026 10:41

Yeah my pet shits outside and I don't have to pick it up so you need to go NC with me.

It must be a rabbit? Wouldn't it be good to teach your one how to go in a tray? Or maybe it's too late after a certain age.

Motnight · 18/04/2026 10:43

Goodness. I have no words.

Gallowayan · 18/04/2026 10:44

I suspect this is the same OP who started a thread last night calling her colleague a liar, for claiming to have 2 dogs when she's apparently only got one.

That thread was funny but only because of the comments.

The OP never came back and I suspect this one won't either, so totally pointless.

Your comment was the bomb on that thread!

Thank you 🤣

The one about two hamsters in a trench coat did me!!

Oooh, I can see the Daily Mail headline now:
Batshit over Catshit!

Bookloverforever · 18/04/2026 11:06

Please could you ask your niece how she trained him to use a litter tray ?

Im having lots of issues with my husband shitting in the corner and I envy her skills

Dontcallmescarface · 18/04/2026 11:09

No, because I'm a rational adult who doesn't over-react to such a petty (see what I did there?), issue.
