Entitled spider in my kitchen

So this is mostly a rant about the spiders. I absolutely hate them.
My DC and I went away yesterday for overnight trip to visit my friend. Before we left, I checked everything is turned off, windows are closed etc. I noticed empty glass in my DD bedroom and I took it downstairs and left it by the sink. We got back this evening and after I cooked the dinner, I put everything in the dishwasher. Then I pick up the glass and there was a gigantic spider at the bottom and he spun a bit of the cobweb at the bottom of the glass. I swear he was so big, I could see his teeth or whatever you call them. What is he doing in my kitchen is the question I ask?! I thought the rule is, that massive house spiders live outside in the spring/summer and try to come inside the house in the autumn. But oh no! This asshole was prancing around my kitchen counter while I was gone. I don’t actually know if he was a male but I assume he was as he had the audacity to disturbed my peace in my own home😂

Spiders in your kitchen, means no flies. He's been house sitting for you.

He’s yours now- you have to name him.

I had a spider called Linda in my bathroom for ages, then one day she wasn’t there anymore and I really missed her!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/04/2026 22:45

They live in your house all year

He was definitely not Linda. That sounds too dainty for my big fat hairy spider

Call him Godzilla.

Zippidydoodah · 16/04/2026 22:58

I think I meant King Kong. Big hairy gorilla thing.

King Kong is perfect! He is still in the glass but I put the small plate on the top so he doesn’t escape while we try to determine his fate

Burn the house down.

Supersimkin7 · 16/04/2026 23:11

God, men are impertinent.

Can you boot him out at 11:15? He’ll know that time cos the pub closes.

Decacaffeinatednow · 16/04/2026 23:14

Please let him out of his glass prison !

PinkNailPolish2026 · 16/04/2026 23:16

We had a huge one in the bathroom last night. DH evicted him and the house was treated with Indorex today, I hate the bloody things, no doubt the house will resemble a spider graveyard for a few days as we find the dead ones that the Indorex has killed. I take terrible reactions to insect and spider bites (before anyone starts about killing spiders) and lost a chunk of my lower arm a few years ago thanks to a reaction from a spider bite. I take no chances now.

outerspacepotato · 16/04/2026 23:16

Aww, it was catching bugs for you.

I too had a bathroom spider for some time and we checked to make sure we didn't drown it in the shower. It liked to hang out in a plant.

We had a big spider living in an old unused mailbox. It was a don't start none won't be none type, and it was kind of shy.

Let it live. 👍

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 16/04/2026 23:21

False windows get evicted (carefully!), all other spiders are welcome - I like spiders and I live in hope they'll help keep the clothes moth numbers down.

YourLoftyCyanZebra · 16/04/2026 23:21

I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to spiders but I have an understanding with the balcony false widows and the bathroom cellar spiders....don't get in my way and I'll let them live. Any offspring are evicted.

What is Indorex? I’m in the UK but I will get my house treated if it kills spiders!

An incredibly unpleasant neurotoxin that affects insects, birds, cats, dogs, aquatic life and humans.

Sorry but no thanks. I don’t mind the big skinny spiders because they don’t move very fast but I don’t want them in my house. My issue is with the big body and thick hairy legs spiders

It’s a spray that was designed for fleas but kills everything. I found out about it on here a few years ago when someone else had used it in autumn spider season. We rarely see spiders as we treat the house twice a year with it. My experience of the spider bite terrified me so I’m afraid it’s me or the spider now. We live on a farm so get massive spiders, we also have house dogs and they’ve never been affected by it. We treat the house and go out for a couple of hours leaving the windows open.

So where do I put it? I can flash it down the loo. My DC want me to release it in our garden but I think he will just run back in at some point

I quite like spiders.
Here in Australia we have huntsman spiders. One lives on the ceiling at my partners house - he is absolutely massive. They can be very defensive though and will run at you if they're defending their 'patch'! The good thing is they don't make webs.
For those with a phobia, do not google 'huntsman spider egg sac hatching' and watch the YouTube videos...

CrackInTheGlass · 16/04/2026 23:44

I have an agreement with our “spindlies” (cellar spiders) as I’ve seen them first hand take down big hairy spiders and massive daddy long legs. If they keep themselves to themselves, I’ll let them be. Crawl over my forehead when I’ve put a towel on my head though, fast squish.

Muteduck · 16/04/2026 23:54

I have a spider behind my cooker fat bastard aswell.
Hes safe for now but the moment i get a good shot with the broom he`s a gonna.

Any bug that comes in my home has signed its own death warrant.

There is no way I would be able to be in the house with those spiders. No. Just no
