AIBU to think overseas American and UK bases should close?

Weemammy21 · 07/04/2026 23:08

AIBU for thinking now is the time for overseas American and UK bases to be closed? America has repeatedly abused their overseas bases to start wars with countries just to plunder and steal their natural resources, murder innocent civilians and kidnap and kill leaders of other countries. America is doing what is best for America and not helping the countries they start war with so should a serious discussion not be started about closing down all American and UK overseas bases that are used to hold and torture innocent civilians that they could not legally detain in America? Who voted for America to be the world's policeman with a lunatic running it and using his wars to fill his and his cronies coffers.

Please name 1 UK military base that we use to illegally detained and torture people and cite your sources

NotAnotherScarf · 07/04/2026 23:36

No because the bases we have are to protect British territories or allies. Do you want a repeat of the Falklands war. Remember that Britain once invaded a lot of countries and still has responsibility for a number of them.

Ablondiebutagoody · 08/04/2026 00:30

The World quite likes sponging off the US as it's policeman. We'll be in the shit when they stop.

Weemammy21 · 09/04/2026 10:48

It is time for overseas UK & US bases to be closed and for no country to tolerate or accept them. The world have had their eyes opened with how these bases are being used to launch wars and kill innocent civilians so no more. Enough is enough especially when there is a mad man in control

Don’t be ridiculous.

Weemammy21 · 09/04/2026 11:24

@Hoardasurass "name 1 UK base military base where we used to use to illegally detain and torture people". We'll let me think. That is a hard one NOT! Ireland that's where!!! Have you never heard of internment? A word used by the UK military to arrest and illegally, detain and torture Irish citizens. My source? ME

@IAxolotlQuestions There is nothing ridiculous about the UK and US using military bases to start wars with other countries whilst torturing and murdering innocent civilians and then claiming because they wore a uniform they had a right to shoot young children in the back

So no evidence or reliable sources just your self serving statements, which are based on lies there are no British military bases in the Republic of Ireland only in Northern Ireland which is part of Britain.
Nice try.

amber763 · 09/04/2026 11:48

What are you even talking about?

Weemammy21 · 09/04/2026 11:52

@Ablondiebutagoody it is American arms being sold to Israel that is being used to murder innocent women and children in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran and the United Nations workers medical workers such as in Palestine 2 days ago

There are whole countries that would gladly not just in the Arab world but all over that world gladly wish the US bases stay within their own country and UK bases stay in the UK.

The local economy around the overseas base that I live near would collapse, if the Americans left. They're very happy to take the Americans money 🤷‍♀️

Those countries have the right and ability to demand that the bases are demolished and personal and equipment are removed.
The simple fact is they haven't because they want the bases there.
May I suggest that you do some actual research on this topic that doesn't involve reading biased propaganda before making a bigger foul of yourself by posting unevidenced nonsense.

Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland?

Hoardasurass · 09/04/2026 12:29

SALaw · 09/04/2026 12:22

Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland?

There are no British military bases in the Republic of Ireland.
As the op is talking about British bases in foreign countries and then talking about Ireland its clear that the implication being made is its about the Republic of Ireland however that would be a lie, as they dont have any, unless the op is trying to claim that Northern Ireland is not part of Britain, which is also a lie.
So whichever one the op is trying to claim is irrelevant as they are both based on lies.

Yeah, I know. That’s why I was asking the OP.

Hoardasurass · 09/04/2026 12:43

Sorry @SALaw missed that.
Posts like the ops that are so full of outright lies, misrepresentations and twisted half truths really mess with my asd and I often miss the nuances of posts pushing back on the falsehood so probably best for me to sit this one out for a while

OneTimeThingToday · 09/04/2026 12:43

Its not that simple. Many of them are actually NATO do have members of varied forces.

GeneralPeter · 09/04/2026 12:50

Do you think the world will be safer or more stable without a dominant superpower, or are you envisaging that a different one will take the US’s place?

Historically periods without hegemons have been more violent and unstable, not less.

Given that, I think US-led order is better than the alternatives. It’s certainly the best-behaved superpower we have seen, and better than China and Russia (who in any case aren’t plausible global powers, though China may get there).

Bringemout · 09/04/2026 12:57

It’s like a student union around here. On the US gulf bases expect to see nothing much change at all. They aren’t going to kick the americans out, iran just managed to prove why GCC countries benefit from defence co-operation with America. Gulf nations are reasonably asking if this was just about american bases why civilian sites and oil and gas installations were hit.

I really do feel we need to cover this at school more, so many people don’t seem to get the reality of geopolitics. They are just reflexively anti-american or anti-west because they have stewed their brains in anti-imperialism whilst managing to ignore the fact that countries like russia, china and iran are imperialist and their neighbours are shit scared of them.

Weemammy21 · 09/04/2026 12:58

@GeneralPeter whrn the superpower in question is the US and is being led by Trump is a total lunatic then yes I do think the world would be safer without the US and UK overseas military bases. It is the countries that are hosting these bases that are being attacked not America or the UK and it's the people in these countries that suffer due to a lunatic being in control of this superpower.

Northern Ireland is not and never has been part of Britain. And of course there were plenty of British military bases in what is now the Republic of Ireland.

Do you have any idea what those people in those countries actually think? Of have you assumed because of your own political leanings? They are very clear on who is attacking them and are all over twitter defending their right as nation states to host whoever the hell they want in their countries. It’s not up to Iran to dictate to other countries who they can have defence agreements with and the fact that you seem to think it is makes me think you are pro-imperialism.

Weemammy21 · 09/04/2026 13:02

My referring to Ireland was in response to a direct question asking me to name 1 UK military base that was used to torture people. I stated Ireland and referred to internment which was the illegal detainement of Irish citizens who were then tortured by the British military.

You also clearly don’t understand what is happening at the moment. It’s a disruption of a proxy network controlled by an imperialist power that spans, lebanon, yemen and iraq at the moment. Goodness knows if it will work but it’s not actually crazy, it just looks like that if all you listen to is noise.
