I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts discussing this conflict and the overwhelming consensus seems to be there was no real plan. There was obviously a frame work, but the Americans seemed to have assumed it was going to go like Venezuela and just massively underestimated the leverage Iran has with plunging the world into a global recession off the back of their restrictions over who can use the Strait of Hormuz.

The problem with Trump is he isn’t great at back pedalling. Given the options of grovelling and deescalating or blowing the whole thing to smithereens I fully anticipate he will do the latter. There are nuclear weapons that aren’t big bombs that blow the world to pieces but are still nuclear grade. I wouldn’t put it past him to use something like this. I know the argument is does he have a condition like Alzheimer’s or Dementia? I don’t think so. If I were going to guess at anything it would be psychopathy.
