To risk putting eggs out in storm??

Our kids are too old to be distracted in the morning but young enough to want to hunt in the garden/ weather looks stormy and 90% chance of rain at midnight ! As I have been up since 6am don’t really want to hide eggs out at 3am - advice pls!

Can't you hide them in the house?

Sartre · 04/04/2026 21:00

I put them out overnight once and slugs / snails got to them! Don’t recommend ever doing this. Do an indoor hunt.

Springandaprayer · 04/04/2026 21:00

Can't you just tell them they need to stay in the lounge while you put the eggs out or the game won't work? How old are they?

Besidemyselfwithworry · 04/04/2026 21:01

We have just had this same conversation - I’m hiding mine round the house in all the rooms -
not quite the same but I don’t think outside is found to work!

RoyalPenguin · 04/04/2026 21:03

I once put them out the night before and they got nibbled by rodents!

pimplebum · 04/04/2026 21:03

are you American? Are you pretending the Easter bunny hides eggs?

if in the uk just tell the kids its wet and windy and you will hide them in the morning

Childanddogmama · 04/04/2026 21:04

Find an Easter Bunny video they can watch in the morning while you quickly put then out?

Octaviathethird · 04/04/2026 21:05

We do a hunt in the house with age appropriate clues, I'll put the eggs and clues out once DD is asleep tonight.

The EB is only for Americans? 🤔

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 04/04/2026 21:11

Hide in the house.

catface24 · 04/04/2026 21:13

Putting them in the garden overnight is gross, nothing to do with the storm. Mice/rats will nibble them, slugs will slide over them, foxes or cats might wee on them!! I can’t believe anyone actually does this

Aquarius91 · 04/04/2026 21:13

Hide in the house definitely, an outdoor egg hunt in this weather is insane

smallglassbottle · 04/04/2026 21:15

Chocolate can be toxic to some animals so it might poison the wildlife.

Even Vicar of Dibley had an Easter bunny hiding eggs in the 1990s. It’s not a new concept in the UK.

Waiting for OP to tell us the kids are 13 and 15…

If they are and they have a bit of fun on Easter morning finding some eggs then great!

NamelessNancy · 04/04/2026 21:20

I've always hid them around the house (indoors). Have I been Easter bunnying wrongly all these years?

OP is posting because her kids are “too old to be distracted..” in the morning while she puts them out which would be the sensible thing. This implies they “still believe” (I don’t think my kids ever believed in the Easter Bunny?).
If they still believe at 13 and 15 then I’d worry

Jessiesjammy · 04/04/2026 21:26

I’ve been wondering the same thing - looking like it might just be indoors…

Hotandpointy · 04/04/2026 21:28

I’ve been wondering the same thing. DS isn’t keen on chocolate but absolutely loves doing an egg hunt. I have some plastic eggs that I use every year (the same ones, not single use plastic) and fill them with little packs of haribo or little toys he likes to collect that I picked up from a charity shop.
It’s just a bit of fun but listening to things blowing around outside, I’m thinking it might not be possible this year. I hide them around the house too but the garden is his favourite place to hunt.
Contemplating if I’m insane enough to get up at 4:30am and hope the wind has died down! 🫣

catipuss · 04/04/2026 21:29

Seal them in plastic bags?

PumpkinSoupIsBetterThanYouThink · 04/04/2026 21:29

I put them out early once and a squirrel got them.

Vodka1 · 04/04/2026 21:30

15, 7, 6 - I distract them with a big egg whilst I hide all the small ones just before they go looking.

Granted I keep the curtains closed and use plastic eggs in the garden filled with sweets.

Leaving them out, soggy boxes would be the least of my problems, kids would understand that. Insects however, no thank you

This. We did an egg hunt for our toddler this afternoon since I’m working all day tomorrow. Chocolate coins in plastic eggs, they were only out for about half an hour and ants had found their way into one!
