Our kids are too old to be distracted in the morning but young enough to want to hunt in the garden/ weather looks stormy and 90% chance of rain at midnight ! As I have been up since 6am don’t really want to hide eggs out at 3am - advice pls!

The chocolate seems to have survived overnight!

Yes, it is actually. They know it’s not actually big bunny anymore but stil go along with it for the fun.

same for myself and friends as children

They go along with it to get their mitts on the chocolate, op…
Your 12 year old is at high school, they don’t need to keep pretending a giant bunny left the eggs to keep you happy.

I always just put them out about 10 minutes before they did the hunt. Why leave them out at night? Most of them would have been pissed on by local cats and foxes.

Cricketashes · 05/04/2026 10:27

I didnt realise people put them outside. Ive always done inside.

Put them out at 06.00 when the wind was not so bad and yes the 12 YO enjoyed Easter bunnyness which some people missed out on in their own childhood it seems !

Mine (late teens) were told to go and play nicely upstairs with the curtains closed for No Particular Reason, then we told them we’d seen a giant rabbit hopping away and maybe we should check the garden Just in Case. Lovely egg hunt ensued, followed by eating of lots of chocolate all round.

When you wake up in the morning just throw them from the bedroom window into the garden.

(DON'T DO THIS if your bedroom is at the front of the house and you live on a busy road.)

This is the most useful piece of advice I have ever read on Mumsnet. I love you.
