To risk putting eggs out in storm??

Our kids are too old to be distracted in the morning but young enough to want to hunt in the garden/ weather looks stormy and 90% chance of rain at midnight ! As I have been up since 6am don’t really want to hide eggs out at 3am - advice pls!

Putting them out in the garden is gross. You all take your shoes off in the house because of germs and dirt but happily let’s your kids eat eggs that have been lying in the garden all night to be walked over, nibbled and urinated in by who know how many animals! Would you eat a pack of biscuits that have been lying in the garden all night!

JaneGrint · 04/04/2026 22:20

I’d be too worried about wildlife eating the eggs to leave them out overnight.

Aside from insects and birds I’ve seen evidence of mice, rats, cats, hedgehogs, squirrels and rabbits within a few hundred metres of my house before. The mice, rats and rabbits I saw were all dead but I’m pretty sure that where there’s one there’ll be more.

We’ve always put the egg hunt eggs out on the day, and told the DC that the Easter bunny won’t come if they keep watching the garden. The eggs aren’t there first thing because the Easter bunny’s got a busy schedule and works through the day, he doesn’t deliver overnight like Santa 😉

Making easter bunny paper foot prints, that's what I call dedication!😀

I’ve probably made this sound more extravagant than it was 😂 I cut paw shapes out of printer paper and coloured the paw pads pink with a crayola marker 😂

they were very small at the time and thankfully didn’t question it. DP tried making Santa foot prints at Christmas years later and when they got up eldest asked why there was coconut on the floor

Tryagain26 · 04/04/2026 22:21

Definitely don't put them out overnight apart from the rain, wind there are foxes slugs , snails sand other creatures of the night.
Can't you have an indoor egg hunt. Leave little clues for them to solve, tell them they have to solve them in order to get the eggs.

The EB is only for Americans? 🤔

Sorry. No Easter Bunny for you! 😁

Heraldry · 04/04/2026 22:22

We have little tin rabbits we fill with mini eggs and hide, they are actually my grandmother’s and from the 1920s if not before. I only ever put them in the living room, same as my parents did for us in the 70s.

NamelessNancy · 04/04/2026 22:25

Anotherwine · 04/04/2026 21:47

They are 10 and 12 and still into it - yes we usually put out night before and haven’t had evidence of bugs / slugs ever ! In the house is just not the same ! Maybe ok if you have a huge house

You don't need a huge house - we've done hunts in our touring caravan before now! It doesn't need to be tricky, just fun. Behind cushions and picture frames, in drawers. We live in an incredibly rainy part of the UK so i guess it would never occur to us to leave outside for any length of time.

ChoosingMyOwnRandomUsername · 04/04/2026 22:30

Er...yes.

weareallcats · 04/04/2026 22:31

I think it is better to wait and see what it is like tomorrow and adjust your plans accordingly. We’ve always done a hunt, but the dc know it is dh and me - we write silly clues and it’s all part of the fun (they are older teens now and the clues are much cheekier, but even when they were small it was obviously us).

Notmyreality · 04/04/2026 21:45

Yes but I hope they know it’s you and
not the Easter Bunny that did it..

Oh, I see.
Funnily enough, yes, they do.

I’m agog at an 18 and 22 year old bouncing out of bed at first light on a Sunday morning to search the undergrowth for chocolate eggs.

😂 it’s not quite first light, more like late morning, but they love chocolate and they’re competitive. What’s not to like?!

Youzername · 04/04/2026 22:44

I’m really surprised people put them out at night. Mice and other rodents love chocolate.

are you American? Are you pretending the Easter bunny hides eggs?

if in the uk just tell the kids its wet and windy and you will hide them in the morning

Do you live in Mars or something?

tnorfotkcab · 04/04/2026 22:51

SleepyHollowed84 · 04/04/2026 22:14

Surely this isn’t a Santa situation where you need to keep up the illusion? Do they think the EB is real? Why is Easter turning into a second Christmas?

Just tell them tomorrow morning that they need to watch TV for 10 mins whilst you hide eggs for an egg hunt.

Umm. Fairly sure it's the same idea.

DappledThings · 04/04/2026 22:51

tnorfotkcab · 04/04/2026 22:49

Why? It wasn't a thing when I was growing up. Never heard of the Easter Bunny till I was pretty much grown up. Don't remember any of my friends ever mentioning him.

Lots of us had hunts and we did some years but there was never any magic bunny business.

I hardly think hiding 10 plastic eggs in the garden is a second Christmas. My DC still believe in the EB and I’m happy to keep the magic for as long as they want to believe (tooth fairy too).

TappyGilmore · 04/04/2026 22:56

First time in 17 years that the Easter Bunny has had to leave the eggs indoors instead of in the garden. We’re in New Zealand so the weather is usually pretty reliable at Easter, even when it’s much later in April. Not this year though!

Cloop · 04/04/2026 23:02

Easter Bunny has never left anything outside in mine or my children's lifetimes, but then again that might be to do with the Scottish climate. I'm 40ish and certainly believed in the Easter Bunny as a child just like I did Santa (not Father Christmas - again, Scottish).

Talipesmum · 04/04/2026 23:03

SusieMyersonAndAssociates · 04/04/2026 21:59

“Go and watch the telly whilst I check if the Easter bunny has been”

works every year here….

Exactly this! It’s ok to be a bit arch about it - tell them to be very busy over the other side of the house for a while tomorrow morning! That’s what we did from at least that age onwards, probably way before.

You can say “boing boing rabbit” if they need more convincing.

Cel77 · 04/04/2026 23:05

Just hid our big ones in visible places, wedged between tree branches. And hoping for the best. We'll hide the smaller ones in the morning, as they go around and when they're not looking...

PurpleLovecats · 04/04/2026 23:06

At 10 and 12 they know it’s you.

just hide in the house.

cadburyegg · 04/04/2026 23:08

Just hidden mine out, I do every year …! Never realised some people had such strong feelings about it !

Theimpossiblegirl · 04/04/2026 23:39

I live in the countryside and would never put them out the night before. Something would eat them for sure!

Yes, it is actually. They know it’s not actually big bunny anymore but stil go along with it for the fun.

same for myself and friends as children

Just tell them not to look while you hide them if the weather is ok to put them out in the morning. Even if they peek they won’t catch every hiding spot.

I remember Covid year they were all starting to melt as it was so hot lol.

Mine have outgrown egg hunts now :(
