To risk putting eggs out in storm??

Our kids are too old to be distracted in the morning but young enough to want to hunt in the garden/ weather looks stormy and 90% chance of rain at midnight ! As I have been up since 6am don’t really want to hide eggs out at 3am - advice pls!

I’ve always hidden eggs outside (in little plastic casings). Always did it the night before until 2 years ago when I came down to half as many eggs. A mystery as to where they went. I’ll be going out in the morning and hoping DC lies in! 😬😬

RoyalPenguin · 04/04/2026 21:03

I once put them out the night before and they got nibbled by rodents!

Of course they did. And probably peed on by cats/foxes.
Why would anyone leave chocolate to be eaten by children in the garden overnight?!

mommybear1 · 04/04/2026 21:32

We keep all the curtains closed and when the kids are getting ready in the morning we nip out and put the eggs out and then usher the kids out quickly to stop the squirrels/ slugs etc getting them 😂

Luckyingame · 04/04/2026 21:32

😂
Sure, go for it.
More adventure.

are you American? Are you pretending the Easter bunny hides eggs?

if in the uk just tell the kids its wet and windy and you will hide them in the morning

I wasn’t aware this was an American thing. My grandma always used to hide eggs in the garden as the Easter Bunny and I’m in my 40s.

Brewtiful · 04/04/2026 21:33

I'm genuinely amazed anyone would leave Easter eggs outside overnight and then encourage their children to eat the eggs!

Forget the storm leaving them outside even in calm weather overnight is bonkers.

VividDeer · 04/04/2026 21:34

A magpie once got to ours within 30 minutes

I’m older than you! When I was a child in the 60s, the family whose garden backed onto ours used to do this every Easter. My mother said a firm “no” ☹️

Since when are eater egg hunts and the Easter bunny bringing eggs American?

The Easter bunny (my gran) hid eggs for us back in the 80’s. It’s not a new thing in the UK

OP, mine are too old for an Easter egg hunt now (😭) but on nights like tonite I used to hide them around the house after they’d gone to bed. I remember once making paper bunny foot prints leading from the door to their Easter baskets and a letter saying the eggs were inside this year because it was raining and the Easter bunny didn’t like getting his hair wet 😂😂😂😂

I am in my 60s . My parents used to do an egg hunt for us back in the 1960s. Highlight of the year. And yes, I thought it was the Easter Bunny. ( who lived with Santa Claus, Rudolph , and the Tooth Fairy)

Don’t imagine the eggs were out all night though.

RainyRainyRain · 04/04/2026 21:40

Eww i didn’t realise people put them out the night before

Whinge · 04/04/2026 21:43

Another one here who had no idea people put the eggs out the night before. It's vile. 🤢

Waiting for OP to tell us the kids are 13 and 15…

I’m going to hide eggs for my Dc aged 18 and 22… 🤔☺️

Yes but I hope they know it’s you and
not the Easter Bunny that did it..

Anotherwine · 04/04/2026 21:47

They are 10 and 12 and still into it - yes we usually put out night before and haven’t had evidence of bugs / slugs ever ! In the house is just not the same ! Maybe ok if you have a huge house

I’m agog at an 18 and 22 year old bouncing out of bed at first light on a Sunday morning to search the undergrowth for chocolate eggs.

Making easter bunny paper foot prints, that's what I call dedication!😀

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 04/04/2026 21:57

When you wake up in the morning just throw them from the bedroom window into the garden.

(DON'T DO THIS if your bedroom is at the front of the house and you live on a busy road.)

SusieMyersonAndAssociates · 04/04/2026 21:59

“Go and watch the telly whilst I check if the Easter bunny has been”

works every year here….

edwinbear · 04/04/2026 22:07

When they were small, DH used to take DC to the park for 30 mins whilst I hid eggs. At 14 & 16 they’re not interested anymore but at 10 & 12 can’t you just plug them into their PlayStation for a bit whilst you hide them?

Numberninetynine · 04/04/2026 22:11

Of course it's fine, they're wrapped, aren't they?!

How patronising!

SleepyHollowed84 · 04/04/2026 22:14

Surely this isn’t a Santa situation where you need to keep up the illusion? Do they think the EB is real? Why is Easter turning into a second Christmas?

Just tell them tomorrow morning that they need to watch TV for 10 mins whilst you hide eggs for an egg hunt.

I'm in my 40s. My grandparents occasionally did it if we were there. Don't remember my parents ever doing it. Never heard of the Easter Bunny till I was older and watched more American TV.

We had the concept of a hunt but just as a game people set up. There was never any suggestion they had been hidden by a magical being.

Plankton89 · 04/04/2026 22:18

I’ve put mine around the house and a note has been pushed through the cat flap from
EB saying it was simply too stormy to leave eggs in the garden.
