Is this furniture too cramped (pics)

Posting here for traffic. I got an absolute bargain on Gumtree yesterday- a chair for £30 that is currently selling in Dunelm for £259! It’s the smaller checked chair in the pics. Does it look okay here, or is there now too much furniture in the room?

It would be too cramped for me but I’m very much if you love it then keep it.

JacknDiane · 04/04/2026 21:35

It looks great

Chairdilemma · 04/04/2026 21:39

Thanks everyone!!

It's a bit too nursing home for me, too many random chairs squished in.

Chairdilemma · 04/04/2026 21:59

Nursing home 😂 😂

There are two chairs and a sofa Confused

stichguru · 04/04/2026 22:05

I think it looks a little cramped, but ok if you use all those chairs regularly and need that much seating if that makes sense.

PullyDog · 04/04/2026 21:32

I remember this front room. What is your goal here OP?

You wanted open space didn't you?

I was thinking that too. Looks very familiar...... and this looks a lot more cluttered now than it did.

YerMotherWasAHamster · 04/04/2026 22:08

Looks fine to me.
Cosy.

BusyLilacSnake · 04/04/2026 22:10

Love it, and your room styling. I’d move it slightly forward to show it off more, rather than pushed up against so tight to the wall.

senua · 04/04/2026 22:12

Don't have chairs ar angles. It is a waste of space.

You room has furniture pushed to the edges and a big blank in the middle. Sometimes it actually makes the room look bigger if you move the furniture away from the walls a little.

Can I see a bay window? Put one of the chairs there. You only need the two of you to be positioned to be able to see the TV, not visitors.

tilypu · 04/04/2026 22:18

What I would try is the greyer where the more brown chair is, the brown chair where the sofa is, and the sofa angled, kinda in front of the cabinet

gummywitch · 04/04/2026 22:18

I agree with TofuTuesday about moving the sofa to having its back to the dining area, opposite the fireplace. Then move each armchair further into the room, beyond the sofa, one on each side but still angled inwards very slightly towards each other. This way, your Nanna's cabinet would have pride of place right where it is, without anything pushed right up against it. You could maybe buy a couple of round tiny Kai 3 legged side side tables, £12 from Dunelm to have next to each armchair. The shade stone might work with the decor. I've got 2 in olive and they're so cute and look fab with even just a coaster on top. Just an idea. Here's mine

Hopefully mumsnet will show the pic later

Tigerbalmshark · 04/04/2026 22:33

Looks cosy. However, is that a doorway behind your sofa, and if so is there actually a path to get to it? It looks blocked off in the photos (by the sofa, not the chair).

27pilates · 04/04/2026 22:34

I like it. I remember your original thread OP. This looks even better. Well done ! Looks lovely now.

bornwithhorns · 04/04/2026 22:36

I really like it

OtherS · 04/04/2026 22:45

I think it looks lovely and cosy, but that's because it rather reminds me of my grandparents' house... So if you're looking for cosy, definitely. But if you're looking for stylish, maybe not.

OneMomentPlease · 04/04/2026 22:45

For me it is a bit cluttered and the chair is blocking the cabinet, which should have pride of place if you love it. Did you actively want another chair in the room? It looks like it was maybe just too much of a bargain to resist?

SantiagoShaming · 04/04/2026 22:49

I think you have a lovely room. It’s all a matter of taste but I love the chair and as a whole it looks really cosy and welcoming.

DolefullySingingMotherfucka · 04/04/2026 23:15

To be honest, the armchair looks kind of shoehorned into a space that isn't really there.

RockLobsterRockLobster · 04/04/2026 23:22

I think it looks really nice! It looks like a lovely, cosy space.

ohtobethin · 04/04/2026 23:35

I think it’s fine.

and I love the cabinet.

neilyoungismyhero · 05/04/2026 11:31

It looks exactly like your style- as other posters have said your rooms are warm and cosy and in my opinion can take that extra chair...and what a great bargain..
Not jealous at all...much.
