AIBU to feel grateful that my hard work paid off?

I love my new job. I just feel so happy but don’t want to be braggy to anyone, particularly to those who might not be so lucky.

I worked really hard to get the job I have got now. Lots of training, lots of time apart from my kids etc. It really was hard to gain the skills needed, and then I needed a company to take a chance on me, and thank god that’s happened!!

Im now working full time, from home. The team I work with are all lovely, and we chat lots via our laptops, through the day.

I start at my start time, and finish at my finish time (for the most part).

I have more time with my kids, and I’m being paid more than I was.

I feel so lucky and grateful that my hard work has paid off and I now feel like my life is so easy compared to how it was.

Hopefully I am not BU to share this with you all. Life just seems better, and I am so glad I spent the hours and years working hard, to get here!

BeMellowAquaSquid · 02/04/2026 20:48

There’s no harm is applauding yourself. I’m in a similar position you have to back yourself always. Congratulations and very well done! It’s a great feeling and I hope it continues for you x

XenoBitch · 02/04/2026 20:48

It sounds like you really landed on your feet. Well done 😃

BruFord · 02/04/2026 20:49

Good for you! Can you give me some tips on retraining, etc.? I’m cheesed off with my current situation even though I’m self-employed, need to find something more challenging.

JamBams · 02/04/2026 20:52

I’m working in an IT role, but basically had to do a degree and also did a separate qual that is regularly asked for. I had no work experience though, so got a different, entry level job in the right sort of company, then applied for the IT role as an internal applicant. My advice would be, if you want to retrain, do it. It will be hard work - working and studying. Be prepared to go backwards to go forwards, to get to where you want to be. If I hadn’t got that entry level job, I don’t think I’d have got this role.

Ew. What an unpleasant person you apparently are. Do better.

Sensiblesal · 02/04/2026 21:36

Its not braggy at all. Well done! You definitely worked hard for it, enjoy your success.

we seem to have a culture now where people think others shouldn’t celebrate a success because they don’t have it or others don’t. But we should applaud everything we & others do well.

twoontheway · 02/04/2026 22:47

Congrats! Well done

CharlotteRumpling · 02/04/2026 22:49

These days everytime I go on social media I see something terrible. How nice to see a hardworking person be rewarded!

Sunnysidegold · 02/04/2026 22:51

Op your post made me really happy! You've worked hard to get to a job that you love, not many can say they truly love their work so that in itself is fab.

The fact you put in all the hours of study and training is a sign of your dedication and I think you really deserve to brag.

I know though, that in really life, it's hard to say you feel proud of yourself without someone thinking I'll of you.
