Will antisemitism ever be looked at and dealt with in the same way as Islamophobia is?

AIBU for thinking it won’t? Because it doesn’t seem to be the case in this country or my home country (Germany).

(I just googled because it didn’t seem right to have antisemitism in lower capitals, but apparently that is correct, as I thought)

Much love to the Jewish community, wherever they are.

@Usernamenotfound1 "people have strong opinions on Israel and Palestine, but I’m not sure that is hatred of Jews and the Jewish faith."

So how does that align with the burning of 5 charity ambulances, the fatal synagogue attack last October and a 17% rise in hate crimes towards jews which is significant given that they only account for 0.5% of the population of England and Wales. It should be noted that a proportion of that statistic is attributable to the far right, which is deeply chilling don't you think.

Basically religion in general is a stain on humanity.

Mosques and muslim people are also getting attacked.

BillieWiper · 01/04/2026 16:26

I don't know for sure as I'm not anti-Semitic or anti islamic. Nor am I Jewish or Muslim. As far as I can see they're both reported in the press in a similar way and as being appalling and unacceptable.

I suppose in countries or areas where there are more Muslims than Jews, the Jewish population could feel more potential threat, and vise versa. But they seem to live alongside eachother in peace most of the time in the UK.

But any form of racism round where I come from is considered absolutely abhorrent. Lower than low. By most people. I hope?

Clardigan · 01/04/2026 16:27

OP a thread written like this just propagates negativity and hatred. I assume you don’t care and knew what you were doing.

LucyWestenra · 01/04/2026 16:28

It’s just pointless.

The hate is too strong.

i will bow out of this thread now, but to the Jewish community on here: I hear you and I see what you are going through and I am sorry.

And as for what’s going on in Germany, I feel ashamed.

I never thought I’d ever agree with Tony Blair, but he was absolutely and one hundred percent correct when he said the left needs to end its alliance with Islamists

No, they need to end the unholy alliance with oil.

There have been huge amounts of Islamophobia since 9/11. It's still there, but I think it may be blurred with general racism and andt-immigrant sentiment.

Antisemitism has also always been around but I think was muted for a long time. However, it has massively increased recently. I suspect the genocide in Palestine and (legitimate) protests against that have emboldened the anti-semites. People shouldn't have to hide their ethnicity and synagogues should not need security guards. Jewish children should not be harassed on the way to school.

I wonder if it's all the same hate, just targetting different groups of people at different times.

GirlWednesday · 01/04/2026 16:29

I work in a public facing role in a job with quite a high turnover of staff.

I have heard plenty of people speak out against Israel in the context of the genocide it is committing. I have heard plenty of people criticise zionism.

I have heard plenty of people spout islamaphobic nonsense, usually in relation to immigration.

However, I can, hand on heart say that I have never heard anyone I know say anything derogatory about Judaism or Jewish people.

but that’s just my experience.

neveragainforreal · 01/04/2026 16:32

I'm with you 100% OP. It will never happen, saldy, and the reason why is showcased in this thread - either people are "blind" to antisemitism, partly because, as David Baddiel puts it "Jews don't count" (it's systematic). Another reason is that people are outright racist but refuse to admit it and instead try to hide behind whataboutism or some attempt to try to change the meaning of words, eg refusing to accept that antisemitism means hate towards Jews, or saying that they are anti-zionists but also see it as perfectly legit that British Jews feels unsafe due to the conflict in the Middle East.

Many more are racist than they want to admit.

Yes I think a certain kind of person is prejudiced against all difference.

I have seen far right groups say they supported Jewish people when this all started in 2023. Of course they didn’t, and are a threat to Jewish people too. They just happened to hate Muslims more at that point. And will change again. Same hate, different target.

FaceBothered · 01/04/2026 16:36

LucyWestenra · 01/04/2026 15:49

Thank you both for your replies, but surely anyone who has eyes and ears can see that Jewish people are having a much harder time of it.

I asked you for some examples because I'm unsure of how they're not being dealt with in the same way.

It's a bit insulting to imply I don't have eyes and ears?

BedlamEveryday · 01/04/2026 16:38

This is a really weird thread.

Neither are ok, but it’s Islamophobia that MPs and wannabe politicians display openly and get away with it.

When there was that story of the young Muslim girl who drowned in Morocco, there was post after post celebrating her death on Facebook.

A lot of Islamophobia goes unreported. The CST encourages anti-semitism to be reported. So figures a skewed.

There are so many examples of which hate is more acceptable in society.

BollyMolly · 01/04/2026 16:40

From someone who has no affiliation either way, I hear and see far more media coverage of antisemitism than I do Islamophobia, but I don’t believe it happens any less.

As you can see, we are in the minority.

But that’s why it’s even more important we speak up.

I bet you hate this flag 🇵🇸 more than you hate the illiterate paedophile POTUS and his property mogul sons and son in law who are going to be raking in billions in profit from property development on the ruins of Gaza.

Stop trying to take the moral high ground when you don't worry about innocent babies being displaced and their heads and limbs being blown off.

This such a tricky thing to comment on because as a non-jewish, non-Muslim person it is not my place to comment on the experiences of those communities. However I do not think much good comes from comparing one against the other, and actually I've not idea what you've got to gain from doing so. If you feel that there's a lot of antimerism at the moment and you support jewish communities who are experiencing that, great. But why bring in Islamophobia? Both are bad surely? We should have less of both, and the fact there might be more of one than the other doesn't make a difference - does it?

Citruswood · 01/04/2026 16:44

Let's not forget the racist abuse Pakistani and other Asian people get in the UK! How are you not so angry about that? Is it because they're brown skinned? 🤔

OP, can please link to some examples of how they are not looked at and dealt with the same?

I'm really interested to learn.

Appreciate your post OP. It won’t be taken seriously full stop, not compared to any other minority group.
People report how much they hear about it and not other groups, I wonder if they realise there’s only 300 thousand Jews in the Uk and 15-16 million in the world. They don’t realise that many Jews are scared to say who they are, they hide it in many cases. They are having conversations with their reception age children to be careful who they tell at school, to keep it from their teachers. In 2026 in a world where we are supposed to be proud of who we are, David Baddiel is right, Jews don’t count. People are so quick to give their opinion without listening to what Jews are actually saying, can’t think of any other groups this would happen to. And this is not to lessen the discrimination that other minority groups suffer from, all discrimination should be taken seriously.
