I've just started some new medication and one of the side effects is period changes. For me that means my period has become much more painful. I can't take ibuprofen because of a previous stomach ulcer so I'm left with paracetamol which hasn't helped much.

What is helping is a soak in a good hot bath. I've had four so far this week and mentioned it to a friend who thinks I'm being unreasonable.

I have a heating pad and hot water bottle but they don't help as much.

It’s your body .. and unless she’s paying your water and heating bill then it’s naff all to do with her
Enjoy your bath ! 💐

PinkNailPolish2026 · 29/03/2026 17:00

I have a bath every night before bed. Enjoy your baths 🥰

NovemberMorn · 29/03/2026 17:01

Why should it be unreasonable?

Wynter25 · 29/03/2026 17:01

Meant to click yanbu x

Lavagir1 · 29/03/2026 17:02

Of course not!
Just out of curiosity, what's your friend's problem with this? Cost of hot water, or using more water than a daily shower?

ComtesseDeSpair · 29/03/2026 17:02

First post is pretty much the answer. Your friend can do or think whatever she wants, it’s go no bearing on what you need to be comfortable and happy.

Englishrosegarden · 29/03/2026 17:03

I bath every night before bed too. Lovely and relaxing way to wind down ready for sleep and I can't bear the thought of getting into bed with all the dirt and sweat of the day still on me. Ugh..

YerMotherWasAHamster · 29/03/2026 17:03

Are you dragging a tin bath into your friends living room and soaping up in front of her tv?

Ignore her. Its got fuck all to do with her.

Arlanymor · 29/03/2026 17:03

Not remotely unreasonable - your health matters. If you friend is talking from an environmental perspective she's missing the point that you're in pain. And frankly she sounds like a pain - but in the bottom, as opposed to your stomach. I hope your medication settles down for you soon.

chateauneufdupapa · 29/03/2026 17:04

Why do you care what anyone else thinks?! I have a hot bath almost every day of my life.

Isobel201 · 29/03/2026 17:04

you could also try a microwaveable heat pad as well, but yeah a bath daily just to soak for the pain is fine.

PlanBFertility26 · 29/03/2026 17:05

I think I’ve had about 10 showers in my whole 39 yesterdays of existence. Baths all the way!

newornotnew · 29/03/2026 17:11

Your friend is unreasonable, what's going on with her?

Zippidydoodah · 29/03/2026 17:13

I’m totally baffled that anyone would think, let alone SAY, that this was a problem, unless they are paying your hot water bill/live in your house and you hog all the hot water.

of course you can have as many baths as you want in your own home!

Moveoverdarlin · 29/03/2026 17:14

What? Of course it’s not being unreasonable. Why would it be?

muddyford · 29/03/2026 17:17

Sounds blissful. My GP gave me codeine for the worst days.

hididdlyho · 29/03/2026 17:20

Why does she think YABU? Unless you house share and she pays the bills, it's not really any of her business. She would hate my husband, he has a bath every evening and has a hot tub heated up constantly, so he can go in it whenever he likes.

Devilsmommy · 29/03/2026 17:23

Get some paracetamol and codeine. Hopefully that would ease it better. And have all the baths you want

QuestionableMouse · 29/03/2026 17:26

She thinks it's a waste of water. To be fair, she did grow up in an area where they have to be careful how much water they use.

Tell your friend to kind her own business!

PottingBench · 29/03/2026 17:36

If it's helping you feel better then it's not a waste of anything.
Lots of people have a bath every day.

PekaPeka · 29/03/2026 17:37

Why would it be unreasonable i have a bath every single day and wouldn’t leave the house without one!

InfoSecInTheCity · 29/03/2026 17:42

Have 6 a day if it helps, it has exactly nothing to do with your friend and she should probably keep such feedback to herself. Yes, Ok it could be considered by some as a waste of water but on the other hand it’s providing relief for your pain that would otherwise require medication which in all likelihood uses water during the production process as well as packaging and travel. So grand scheme of things it’s probably not much different 8n terms of environmental impact.

TheDenimPoet · 29/03/2026 17:44

I fail to see why having a bath daily would be an issue whatever the circumstance, to be honest.

What on earth has it got to do with her?!

Unless she is paying your bills, it’s 100% irrelevant what she thinks!
