I've just started some new medication and one of the side effects is period changes. For me that means my period has become much more painful. I can't take ibuprofen because of a previous stomach ulcer so I'm left with paracetamol which hasn't helped much.

What is helping is a soak in a good hot bath. I've had four so far this week and mentioned it to a friend who thinks I'm being unreasonable.

I have a heating pad and hot water bottle but they don't help as much.

Posters on here have a disproportionate number of judgey friends and family and pay a ridiculously disproportionate amount of heed to what they say

The inventors of the internet must be so pleased they came up with a way for grown women to ask the world how often they should have a bath. What would you have done if this had happened in 1980 @QuestionableMouse ?

Nothing because I wasn't born until 1985 😆

Are you dragging a tin bath into your friends living room and soaping up in front of her tv?

Ignore her. Its got fuck all to do with her.

This ^

Why does a friend even know how often you bath?Confused
Anyway obviously YANBU, you don’t need to justify your bathing habits and anything that helps bad period pain is 100% worth it.

TulipCat · 29/03/2026 17:59

It's absolutely none of her business. On the wasting water thing, some people take two showers a day, or spend ages in there. Uses just as much water as a bath then.

scarpa · 29/03/2026 18:05

I have a bath most days, so YANBU!

Absolutely not unreasonable. I can't take ibuprofen either, and what works for me way better than paracetamol is buscopan, so if you've not tried that, give it a go.

It's not unreasonable, I had surgery a couple of weeks ago, and I was really struggling with the recovery, and pain meds, The only thing that really helped was having a bath. I was worried about costs because I'm frugal, but I realised that my comfort was more of a priority at this time. I was having two lovely soothing baths a day, for nearly two weeks. It got me through.

Auroraloves · 29/03/2026 18:31

not unreasonable, especially if it’s helping. Enjoy your baths and hope you feel better soon

😂😂that maybe explains the giving a fuck about what anyone else thinks about the most inconsequential habits 😂

Despite having a perfectly powerful shower I have a bath every day and if I'm going out in the evening I may have another one ....
