I’ve not booked anything yet but we normally go to turkey but I’ll be 20 weeks pregnant so looking wanting to stay more in the EU.

would you go to Cyprus?

ive looked at the canaries too but I know they are terribly windy and it seems a bit too cold.

realistically its may bank hols or we won’t be going away this year, which wouldn’t feel too fair on my 2 other children

No. I’d go to the Canaries. It’ll be a lovely temperature there in May.

Jopo12 · 28/03/2026 18:02

yes I go regularly in may half term, to the east coast (kapparis, protaras, ayia napa area) I have family there and we've just bought a house. The weather will be lovely, the water will be warming up and it will be warm enough to spend the day on the beach.

My husband is popping over a week in April to look after his mum.

MyOliveStork · 28/03/2026 18:14

No I wouldn’t go to Cyprus now, I would be worried about the war escalating as it has already been affected and the risk is still present. Canaries much safer

It looks barely 24 /25 degrees and is quite windy. You really need the sun to heat up the pool or else it would be miserable no?

Yes I’m booked. I’ll only not go if Tui cancel.

Lanzarote and Fuerterventura tend to be a bit windier but the weather will be lovely in May - I've been to the Canaries in Jan, Feb, April, August, October and November and even in the January it was pleasant

Goldenmimx · 28/03/2026 18:55

I’ve just come back from Fuerteventura which was 18/19 degrees. That’s actually the coldest I’ve known it this time of year but I feel like it’s a different type of 18/19 than here. I was able to sit out in a bikini without being cold and went into pool. So it’s not too bad weather wise

EstrellaPolar · 28/03/2026 18:57

It will be warmer than 25 degrees in the canaries in May. It’s that hot on the mainland next week… If you’re using historical data, they will be showing an average. So yes, first thing in the morning it will probably be 17-18 degrees but throughout the day it will grow closer to 30. Unless you’re looking at 35+ weather, then it’ll be tricky.

No matter how south or east you go in Europe, it won’t be as warm in May as in the summer months.

EstrellaPolar · 28/03/2026 19:01

I’ve just checked and Gran Canaria temps are in the 20-25º range this coming week already. It would be incredibly strange if temperatures didn’t rise over the next 6-8 week…

Conundrummum123 · 28/03/2026 19:43

I was just basing the temperature on what it said on the TUI website?

so which island do I want to go to for it to be the hottest and least windy? I struggle with the cold so low 20s for me is too cold regardless.

Tenerife would be much better wind wise than Lanzarote.

EstrellaPolar · 28/03/2026 19:46

Why would a travel website be more accurate than a local Spanish / Canarian weather station website? With historical data from say, the last 10 years?

The warmest is usually the southern part of Gran Canaria. Tenerife isn’t super windy either, but I’ve only experienced the north, not the touristy resorts in the south.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 28/03/2026 19:57

You need to pick a hotel that states it's got heated pools anyway for May. We went in April last year and it was mid 20's but felt hot and perfect sunbathing weather. But slightly heated pool is a must

I agree with this , The pools are never warm enough unless you book a place with heated pools

EmbarrassmentLovesCompany · 28/03/2026 20:07

If id already booked, id be sitting tight and keeping a close eye on things.
But I absolutely wouldn't be deliberately booking a holiday to Cyprus right now.

just what I was seeing, it’s not that deep

No I wouldn't book anything like that , unless you are ok with the additional stress of fuel shortages and cancellations as well as the military side of things.
I believe people who live there says it's pretty ok but we will be in fuel shortages and rationing soon ...

Id book UK or very very close to

fuel companies and here hedge their fuel so I don’t think it’s as dire as say in Australia.

there is nothing quite so depressing as a UK holiday, grim weather, grimmer facilities and normally the same price as leaving the uk.

Costa Adeje in Tenerife in late April felt really warm and summery. Not windy at all. I think the south of Gran Canaria is the warmest spot. Sea was warm too.

Conundrummum123 · 28/03/2026 21:28

I’ll gladly take any hotel recommendations:)
