I’ve not booked anything yet but we normally go to turkey but I’ll be 20 weeks pregnant so looking wanting to stay more in the EU.

would you go to Cyprus?

ive looked at the canaries too but I know they are terribly windy and it seems a bit too cold.

realistically its may bank hols or we won’t be going away this year, which wouldn’t feel too fair on my 2 other children

Hello @Conundrummum123. We love Cyprus (it’s our favourite holiday destination) and also love the Canaries.

I would be very happy to go to Cyprus in May and would not be at all worried by the current situation in the ME.

However, if you remain worried then the Canaries would be a brilliant substitute.

In May, it will not be very windy, and pools WILL be heated and warm enough to swim in.

In Tenerife, look at Los Cristianos or Playa de las Americas. I would recommend the Marylanza as a fabulous, family friendly resort with a warm pool and lots of child centred activities, if that helps.

In Gran Canaria, do look at the resorts in the south of the island where it is very sheltered and the weather is much better. The absolute bomb is Puerto de Mogan (we are going there in a few weeks and cannot bloody wait) but failing that Puerto Rico would do the job.

Congrats on your pregnancy and have a lovely break, wherever you decide xxx

No way and that's before any war. Evil place that killed a special person in my childhood. His body is still stuck there.

It looks barely 24 /25 degrees and is quite windy. You really need the sun to heat up the pool or else it would be miserable no?

If you compare climate charts canaries v Cyprus, Cyprus is warmer from Spring onwards.

Yes and it was amazing!!!!

Shoemadlady · 28/03/2026 22:46

The FCDO are warning of any travel to Cyprus as there is a base there. I’d avoid

SilverGlitterBaubles · 28/03/2026 22:49

No, it’s against travel advice so it’s unlikely to be covered for travel insurance. I do not want to risk getting stranded or having to remortgage to pay medical bills if my family is ill abroad.

ultracynic · 28/03/2026 22:58

What about a Greek island? Crete is the furthest south and will be warm end of May,

No they are not, don't make things up. The FCDO is not advising against travel to Cyprus - if they were, holiday companies would have to be cancelling flights and refunding holidays.

The latest is that terrorist attacks cannot be ruled out. We've had similar security advice in the UK in previous years.
There's also this on the FCDO for Spain
Terrorists are likely to try and carry out attacks in Spain

I work in the travel industry. My LinkedIn is flooded with the local tourist associations and hotels showing videos and images of life as normal in Cyprus.

If you don't feel comfortable travelling there in case of escalation in the region and flights being cancelled, that's your personal choice and totally valid. But don't scare monger that it is currently dangerous when that's not government advice at all.

Are you unhinged??

Fortheloveofpenguins · 28/03/2026 23:36

Tenerife is less windy than some of the other islands. Go for the South West for the best weather - the North has more rain and the East is windier.

Just out of interest, are you in the UK? I don’t understand what protection the EU would give you, apologies if you are Irish

and yes I’ve been to the Hard Rock with 3 children, it was absolutely brilliant

It’s just a healthcare and flight length thing due to being pregnant

ordinarily I Iove turkey, love the food, hotel quality and the people and generally I think even with the current situation it’s thousands of miles from the conflict so would be fine but it’s a) the 1 in a million chance of something adverse b) th healthcare being hit and miss and c) the flight being a bit longer.

It’s not against my Ti, there is no travel in ban

I love turkey also and I understand how you feel. There is no travel ban on Cyprus so you would be insured, but Tenerife will be reliable sunshine by then. Hard rock was great, although it’s not in Adeje, you would need a taxi

bittertwisted · 29/03/2026 11:47

And is see you have 2 other children, Siam water park is brilliant, my boys absolutely love it

Tbh we probably wouldn’t end up exploring or doing a fat lot else just playing at the beach and the pool and taking naps 😬

Perfect for that. Dependent on the age of your DC Fantasia is another option

I will be booking Cyprus at some point for my family.

I am not entirely sure why we’re decimating their main industry - tourism - because a small drone hit a military installation.

Cyprus is fantastic and it’s not a war zone.

Ha ha
hard rock is a good mix between adult and kid fun., fantasia completely kid focused

KeeleyJ · 29/03/2026 12:46

I would go to Cyprus if it was just me and DH but not with kids.

DH and I could easy walk 20+ miles to get to an evacuation point in an emergency but not with kids tagging along.

What about one of the Greek islands? Rhodes would be heated up by May.

It actually feels warmer than the figures would imply. Probably because the sun is stronger at that latitude.

Chickenqueen · 29/03/2026 13:01

Members of my family (dual british/cypriot nationals) live in Cyprus half the year and they flew out two weeks ago and said it has been completely fine, life is carrying on as normal. We plan to visit them in June unless our flight is cancelled.
