I will have no Easter Egg this Easter. Not have I bought one for anyone else in the family.

every time I look, they seem so very expensive compared to previous years, and contain less, plus I know they will taste of wax and saccharine. The really posh ones just look wanky (Waitrose, I’m looking at you) or have some form of gluten in them (biscuit pieces, debased praline crunch, cookie crumbs).

the kids are getting huge bars of mini egg chocolate from CostCo, by their own request. DH will get some Bendicks as per usual. I’m goi g to tough it out - at least until they are all reduced on Easter Tuesday.

I don’t want to be that person ( palm oil police ) but for 40+ years I’ve loved Cadbury’s chocolate but now it just doesn’t taste the same and it’s really not nice 😔
I have eaten 2 Easter eggs this year but nowhere near the amount I usually do , which was about 1 a week from when they arrive in the shops ,
I suppose it will do my waistline a favour in the long run …

You may well be disappointed…! Here in Wales, as soon as Easter is done with, there is usually NO sign that there was ever any Easter egg to begin with! It’s the same with Christmas - by December 27th it’s like it never happened. Before you know it the shelves will be stocked with “back to school” stuff and there will be no hint that Easter ever took place!

Same here! There were always lots of Advent calendars reduced after the 1st December but now unless you've already bought one you're out of luck!
I'm buying very few this year - none for my 3dgc (parents don't want them to have any) and none for dd2 and her dh.

Remember back in the day when Easter eggs used to come with a mug? I used to love those!
I dont live in the UK anymore and Easter eggs aren't really done here. I'm partial to a Cadbury's creme egg, mind! I swear they've shrunk though!

No Lidl chocolate chickens this year?? They were my favourite too!
I’ve bought myself a huge bar of Lindt special milk chocolate with hazelnuts for the same price as a low quality Easter egg.

I love those Lindt chocolate bunnies 🐰

I've bought malteser and galaxy eggs for everyone else, but for myself I bought a green and blacks selection box. I'd quite happily eat an ordinary egg in one go, but individually wrapped mini slabs is better for my diet! There's something about the thinness of egg chocolate that makes it very moreish.

Smarties used to do an egg that was covered in blue foil decorated with multicoloured smarties on it. It was the most beautiful egg I'd ever seen (80s kid). It probably had a load of smarties inside it too.

I haven't had Maltesers in years. I remember when a box of Maltesers was the standard birthday present back in the 90s haha
Ooooh I remember the Smarties egg in the blue foil too (1985 baby here)

I think I might be you next year!
Everyone in my family is buggering off on various holidays while I remain at work over actual Easter so I did Easter eggs last weekend and I was taking a back at the price! I still did them because I had promised and because it was nice but it was a kick in the teeth. Particularly as Cadbury have the brass balls to now call their incredibly standard and normal sized eggs “extra large”. They are not extra large, they are normal sized. The choice in Morrisons also seemed to be eggs which were meant to be £7 (can you fucking believe it?) for a normal egg marked down to £4.50 with a more card or between eggs which were £12 or more which is just bloody bonkers.

We went into the giant Lindt shop at Piccadilly Circus last week, omg, what a place! Loads of Easter stuff and flavours I'd never heard of!

FoolOfShips · 29/03/2026 17:21

I'm not bothering - just more rubbish that you enjoy briefly and then regret eating, and the quality of them nowadays is often poor - there are better things to have as an indulgence.

MrsTravelBug · 29/03/2026 17:24

I am giving the kids a tenna each for Easter, the chocolate is just a waste and turning Easter into the new Christmas like I see on social media is just ridiculous so then can have £10 and buy a treat of their choice. (Children are teens/adults)

Namingbaba · 29/03/2026 17:30

I quite like chocolate and try to limit the amount I eat. I’m amazed that it can sit in people’s houses for months with no one eating it.

We always buy the supermarket ones kinder, smarties etc for the kids and a posh artisan one from chocolate shops for each other as a surprise. I usually found look for the funny silly ones to have a laugh. We love it! We eat them slowly after easter instead of buying other snacks.

Beeinalily · 30/03/2026 11:03

More proof that it's the end of days, I got an email from Costa exhorting me to try their bacon and chilli jam hot cross buns!

The medium sized ones ate £2.25 in Lidl and £3.50 in Tesco at the moment, I’ve also seen them on offer in Morrisons. I don’t think that this is really expensive. I’ve bought a few for myself just to eat at home as I love Easter egg chocolate 😊

yellowjack · 31/03/2026 11:03

My Mum might buy me one but I asked DH to get me a couple of bags of the after eight mini eggs because I do like them. Most chocolate is quite poor now sadly.
