To be annoyed by this note pushed through my door - photo

I’ve recently moved to this street.

I know it’s politely written but it’s so passive aggressive.

The “end of the road” in question has a primary school on it. There were no spaces there at 830am when I needed to park. And there was someone in the space outside my house so I parked about two door down from my house in the only possible space.

I also have a blue badge.

AIBU to be annoyed? No house number on it so not sure which neighbour sent it

It's so cowardly to seem to be speaking on behalf of the neighbourhood and then not even sign your name. Depending on how far you want to take it and what you are personally comfortable with, you could either just ignore it, or knock on the door of who you think wrote it and have it out with them, or, as someone else said, photocopy it, send it to everyone and write a reply with it to explain it's a public roads, you can park where you like and you wont be aggressively guilt tripped into being told where to park. It's a very aggressive, manipulative note in my opinion. Personally, I wouldn't give two hoots about falling out with an arsehole like this.

You have a Blue Badge - apply to the council for a disabled space in front of your house.
It won't be "your" space, but only blue badge holders will be able to park there.

That will really annoy them!

You beat me to it! Exactly what I was going to suggest.

zingally · 28/03/2026 09:29

Ignore. If they're not brave enough to put a name/house number to it, they're not worthy of your time.

People are extra precious when it comes to parking near schools. But forgetting that the school was likely there LONG before they moved to the street.

The thing that winds me up about’Polite notice’ is that it was never meant to mean a polite note - it was to make people think it read ‘police notice’ and take it more seriously…like a sign saying ’no parking’ - if people driving past think it’s a police sign, they won’t ignore it

This. Where i used to live someone actually had a blue and white painted sign with the "t" in "polite" painted with a slight curve to make it look even more like "police" I seem to recall they were made to remove it as it came under the general heading of impersonating police....and from this link it looks as though my memory might be right! https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1996/16/section/90

Police Act 1996

An Act to consolidate the Police Act 1964, Part IX of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, Chapter I of Part I of the Police and Magistrates’ Courts Act 1994 and certain other enactments relating to the police.

I would hire an articulated lorry and park it outside for a week because I am petty as hell.

Good idea!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 perhaps a caravan that looks like it might belong to a traveller might be worth considering!

Climbingrosexx · 28/03/2026 09:34

Do you have a local FB group you could post it on and ask if the anonymous sender would like to reveal themselves so you can chat about it properly and discuss why you don't park at the end of the street? If not you will be holding on to this and any other "correspondence" and if it continues you will consider it harassment.

Yes, or you could even state vaguely that you have received a "threatening" note about parking and have reported it to the police.

They will probably shit themselves

HoppingPavlova · 28/03/2026 09:39

Can’t abide anonymous notes. We got one once asking us to stop our constantly barking dog as it was upsetting the whole neighbourhood. We didn’t have a dog.

Both our neighbours had dogs but neither barked much at all, in fact you wouldn’t have known one was there as we strongly suspect it had been debarked (🫤 we once made that as a joke to the neighbour and their reaction was very suspicious).

Anyone who writes an anonymous note is a cowardly arsehole.

Not everyone with a blue badge qualifies for a space outside their house, but the admin fee is nominal so probably worth applying.

Sahara123 · 28/03/2026 09:46

I used to work with someone who put “polite message” at the beginning of every bossy note she sent to staff.
I can feel my teeth itching just writing that !

catgirl1976 · 28/03/2026 09:52

@ExpectMore Thanks for the comment but I don’t need my neighbours to have a whip round to top up my PIP. I work full time.

Perhaps you didn’t know people with disabilities could work? We can do all sorts of things. You should get to know some of us instead of stereotyping.

Bobandbear25 · 28/03/2026 10:01

I feel it could be worded better but we live on a road where come houses have no off road parking and all of us on the stretch (only four houses which maybe makes it easier) never park outside each others houses and park elsewhere if there’s no space outside our own houses. However I imagine it’s harder if it’s a longer road. I’d chat it over with some of your neighbours and see if you can find a solution but if this is what’s always been done you may be unpopular if you change it. Likewise maybe you could agree with your immediate neighbours that you can park outside their houses and they can park outside yours. Of course you can park wherever you wish but sometimes these agreements make life a little easier when parking is tricky. If you have a blue badge it may be possible to get a space for blue badge holders marked outside your home so I’d contact the council about this.

carnivalcat · 28/03/2026 10:01

GranolaBaker · 28/03/2026 06:35

Another vote for applying to the council for a dedicated blue badge disabled space right in front of your house. I would pay good money to see the reaction of the note-writer.

you could even use the note as evidence of need 😆

Am I missing something glaringly obvious here? I keep seeing this same sentiment. What do you think the reaction of the note writer would be?

The note writer wants OP to park outside her own house. Getting a disabled spot outside her house is presumably something they’d support.

Hit em where it really hurts OP! Park outside your own house forever more 😂

A very rude comment that makes rather a lot of assumptions in a few lines. Uncalled for.

ChamonixMountainBum · 28/03/2026 10:05

I assume by now you are probably on the street WhatsApp group. Just post the above photo of the note on it with a "thoughts?" Sit back and enjoy some popcorn.

Permanentlymildlymiffed · 28/03/2026 10:07

Changingplace · 27/03/2026 22:33

Twats.

You could be passive aggressive, photocopy it, attach your own response with details of someone already being in front of your house, blue badge etc and post a copy through all the neighbours houses so everyone else knows they’re a twat too 😁

Plus it’ll unnerve them because they’ll think you’ve only sent it to them so do know who sent it.

Well said. Very unpleasant comment and totally unnecessary- making assumptions about possible benefits just because someone has a disability.

It’s not “being neighbourly”, it’s being controlling. Ignore.

Yogabearmous · 28/03/2026 10:48

Put a sign in your windscreen next time “Nobody owns the road, polite notice.”

SerafinasGoose · 28/03/2026 10:57

Writing anonymous letters is craven cowardice.

If a person doesn't feel courteous or respectful enough to discuss their issue politely, face to face, they don't deserve to have a scrap of notice taken of their sneaky, underhand correspondence.

Carry on as you are and ignore it.

NB. people who write as a collective 'we' - as though they're claiming some kind of majority consensus - rarely are 'we'. They're a petty, cowardly 'I'. If they had safety in numbers then they'd be far less likely to hide behind anonymity.

SeriousFaffing · 28/03/2026 10:58

Fast800goingforit · 27/03/2026 22:41

It's also their assumption they speak for all the neighbours. I'd be very much inclined to photocopy, reply and post to all the neighbours as @Changingplace suggests and ask when the meeting took place at which it was decided to anonymously admonish you in writing or on what basis the letter writer was elected to write to you. What a smug, passive aggressive, wankerish thing to do.

@Fast800goingforit OP also needs to ask if the local highway authority was at this meeting, given that they probably own the road.

I agree not everyone would qualify, I subsequently posted a Gov link with details.

Pessismistic · 28/03/2026 11:15

Op have you applied to have the outside of your house marked as disabled then it’s just yours? Op or ignore the note because you have every right to park there. If it annoys the neighbours so much they will eventually reveal themselves. Either way don’t let them intimidate you.
