Just got a load of free food

Just had to tell someone else other than Dh who said ‘That’s good’ 😂
Placed an order for a food shop with Uber eats, came to around €80. When the delivery arrived and I took it in the kitchen, I thought it was strange it was only one packed bag (usually around 3) opened the bag and none of it was mine…packets of chicken, mincemeat, fish, smoked salmon, lemons, mangos, bagels…lots of nice things, but nothing I ordered aside from chicken
I tried to call the driver but it wouldn’t allow me. I contacted Uber eats and they refunded me, well in up to ten days I
think, but it was issued at least.
So I re ordered my original order, pleased I got a refund and some food free, but I also needed my order for the week, especially for this weekend and my lunch today and a bit fed up by the long process.
Uber turned up with what I ordered, plus extra of some of it, but not all? wondering if some is from my original order but no idea how?! So I got extra chicken breasts, extra butter, two extra cheeses, five extra bread rolls

I’m very confused but also happy and I have a freezer full of chicken, mince and fish to last a good while (we don’t ever really have this so it’s a novelty!)

We’ve had a few Ocado free extras. A few items we got two of instead of one including an expensive joint of meat, block of cheese and some veg.

Also a whole bag of someone else’s shopping in with ours. Gave me a fright as it was the first bag I unpacked so I initially thought we had the whole wrong order. Felt bad about that though as it was bbq type stuff on a sunny Saturday. As a PP said, Ocado won’t take stuff back once they’ve delivered it.

Why not just order from the supermarket

Because it arrives within an hour instead of having to wait 2-3 days like when you order from the supermarket.

I'm disabled and get sudden onset exhaustion a lot. I can't predict what time I'll be awake and able to physically accept and put away a full shop several days in advance.

I order from supermarkets on just eat when I'm feeling good and pain free and it arrives in 30-45 mins.

JackGrealishsCalves · 27/03/2026 18:30

A few weeks ago DH answered the door and took in a delivery assuming I'd ordered something.
Turned out it was a small food shop from Co-Op in a large brown paper bag, nope didn't order that.
I rang co-op trying to so the right thing but they said it must have been a third party delivery, eg Uber Eats so there wasn't anything they could do. We had no idea which delivery company it was. Left it a couple of days then tucked in.
There was some nice food in there but also 4 bottles of red wine, a box of red wine, and a bottle of Prosecco. Shame only DH drinks red.

Screamingabdabz · 27/03/2026 18:34

If that was me and my luck I’d have ended up with a bag of shite and turkey twizzlers. Enjoy op!

takeitawaygeraldine · 27/03/2026 18:57

Oh that's a lovely thing to happen OP, especially approaching the weekend! I hope you enjoy it all.

I've never had anything like that happen with a food shop but a few years ago I ordered from a petshop and they delivered the wrong box to me. I rang them and they arranged collection, promising to send the correct one asap. It arrived the next day or so and when I opened the box I discovered a large amount of extra stuff inside. They included free dog food, bags of treats, a stuffed teddy bear (which she still plays with) and chew toys, alongside a note apologising for the mixup and hoping my dog would enjoy the gifts from them! It was so unexpected, a very lovely gesture by the petshop.

I love smoked salmon so I would be very happy about that, but not so happy my order was messed up.

I got my original order in the end though too (re ordered it) with extra of some things on top, seemed to be an extra bag more than normal, wondering whether it was one bag from my original order?! I have chicken to last for weeks 😂

Im confused. Youre ordering groceries for the week on ubereats?

Yes. I sometimes do it for around 5 days

BlindGuyMcSqueezy · 27/03/2026 19:07

This happened to me with my Tesco order. Ended up with 2 boxes full of frozen veg, chips and a load of vegetarian sausages/burgers and quorn stuff that I hadn’t ordered. I rang them straight away and they said as it was frozen they couldn’t take it back so keep it. My friend’s partner is veggy so she took the vegetarian bits off my hands and we had enough frozen veg and chips to last us ages.

This happened to me once, it had crisps, ready brec , meat, protein bars, tonic and a bottle of vodka. The weirdest shop ever.

I was ordering because I couldn’t go out in the rain and buy formula. I didn’t need any of the above but it was welcome, as I was on mat leave and broke. Bottle of vodka is still mostly full but I might have a cocktail when the sun comes!

I’m wondering if they got mine…or some of it, had mostly normal things but lots of nachos and dips for tonight and a few junky bits as it’s weekend. There’s was all meats, fish, lemons, fruit, herbs…proper healthy meal making mainly…they were probably very disappointed with my crap..🤣

I'm really amazed by how many do online grocery shopping. My one and only experience was bad. I got everything I ordered, but the produce had not been chosen discriminately, so packets of berries weren't very nice, for example. I've never done it again.

I think, however, it would be kind of fun to get an entirely different shop. 😂

It actually was…especially when I was relieved I could get a refund for mine and to keep it! Intrigued what type of person it was too..seems like a cool, single person or couple…not like my family shop filled with cereal and popcorn for movie night

I think as long as you tried to tell them, the extra food is a gift and you should enjoy it guilt free.

You must be well off already to buy one bag of shopping using Uber.

Why? It’s the same price as in the shop? I pay small amount yearly-€4.99 so have free delivery and barely any extra fee, same price as petrol to get to the shop probably

But the prices of the items are more expensive, on some supermarkets they show “in store prices on some items” but don’t make it clear which items they are. I’ve just looked at milk and bananas, milk was 10p more on uber and bananas were 60p more expensive for a bunch of five. So you do need to be aware that the prices you pay on each item is inflated, same as ordering take away from them and their competitors.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/03/2026 17:08

or, like me, wonders why one wouldn't use the shop's own service directly, or wonder how the two differ.

No slots available for the next day via supermarket but amazon can deliver morrisons same day. Good for when work things change last minute.

monkeysox · 29/03/2026 10:33

Loads of delivery companies offer discount /free delivery on first few deliveries. Or amazon prime free delivery over certain amount £60 ish

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 29/03/2026 11:01

@Mumtobabyhavoc are you saying you do no online grocery shopping at all? 😲😄

I’ve been getting Ocado deliveries for more than fifteen years and have always been generally satisfied. I like the fact stuff comes from a warehouse and isn’t dependent on a local store’s stock. Seamless, quick ordering, prompt, well signalled delivery, courteous and well presented delivery people.

I was sad when they broke up with Waitrose. But at around that time I started a veg box habit with Riverford - and now at least half my food comes from them. I order in exactly the same way as with Ocado, the only difference is there’s only one delivery a week on a specific day.

In addition to that I make a bulk order with Hodmedods (whole foods; pulses, legumes, flours, oats, pasta) every six weeks or so.

And most wine, coffee beans, cheese comes from regular subscription deliveries. (Thankfully the best bakers I’ve found are a 15 minute walk away - but I still order for collection.)

I can’t really imagine going back to non-voluntary trawls around a supermarket every single week. (Though I obviously do pop into the odd one now and again. And if I could find a farmer’s market that wasn’t stifled by passing traffic pollution I’d be there.)

Truly, unless you love in person grocery shopping and find it the best use of your time - I’d reconsider!

Yep, have only ordered groceries online once.
I don't really mind grocery shopping. I like seeing what's new as well. I do most of my shopping at Costco here in Vancouver. It can be crazy busy, but I tend to avoid it by arriving just before closing in the evening.

Auroraloves · 29/03/2026 20:40

i hope whoever’s order ended up at your house has also received what they ordered
