Just got a load of free food

Just had to tell someone else other than Dh who said ‘That’s good’ 😂
Placed an order for a food shop with Uber eats, came to around €80. When the delivery arrived and I took it in the kitchen, I thought it was strange it was only one packed bag (usually around 3) opened the bag and none of it was mine…packets of chicken, mincemeat, fish, smoked salmon, lemons, mangos, bagels…lots of nice things, but nothing I ordered aside from chicken
I tried to call the driver but it wouldn’t allow me. I contacted Uber eats and they refunded me, well in up to ten days I
think, but it was issued at least.
So I re ordered my original order, pleased I got a refund and some food free, but I also needed my order for the week, especially for this weekend and my lunch today and a bit fed up by the long process.
Uber turned up with what I ordered, plus extra of some of it, but not all? wondering if some is from my original order but no idea how?! So I got extra chicken breasts, extra butter, two extra cheeses, five extra bread rolls

I’m very confused but also happy and I have a freezer full of chicken, mince and fish to last a good while (we don’t ever really have this so it’s a novelty!)

Now I want smoked salmon and cream cheese.

I've got that and bagels. I'll put the kettle on. 😊

Could you picture who’d ordered that? I’m getting a greasy haired man, with a yellowing shirt and a brown cardi.

He lives in a flat, and is grumpy with the neighbourhood children, but smarmy with women.

And his breath smells.

But that's only because his wife left him for his best friend. He went downhill after that.

I'm really amazed by how many do online grocery shopping. My one and only experience was bad. I got everything I ordered, but the produce had not been chosen discriminately, so packets of berries weren't very nice, for example. I've never done it again.

I think, however, it would be kind of fun to get an entirely different shop. 😂

I don't order fresh fruit and veg online, as I prefer to choose my own, But shelf-stable and frozen stuff is fine. I quite like it if I get a cracked/broken egg in my delivery, as they refund the whole box and let me keep it.

Same here. Good for frozen and tinned stuff, cleaning products, cat food and litter, saves me from lugging it back from the shop as I don't drive. I prefer to choose my bread and fruit/veg in person. And raid the yellow sticker aisle. So I mix and match.

👋 Hi, Sue!

Yeah, I've given that some thought, too - just order everything except fruit. It was a bummer, though, as I had just had Baby, so really needed the help. I think the grocery stores' own delivery might be a better bet. I used InstaCart/Costco.

Why not just order from the supermarket

Why do you care

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 27/03/2026 16:35

Somebody nearby me once ordered almost exactly the same food as me minus one dip, but also with all the extra puddings I would have ordered as well.

As I almost always end up missing an item, it was nice to have the gods smile on me for once!

How long ago was this?

It used to be that you would get bruised fruit etc but that hasn't been my experience for a long, long time. Far more likely to come out the winner, e.g. getting a more expensive sub or getting ten bags of apples to replace ten apples etc.

Because Uber eats generally delivers in around 30 minutes :)

I doubt the poster cares . They are allowed to ask a question though! It would never occur to me to do this either but now others have explained I can see the point

Seems like the question is being asked to undermine the OP because she orders her groceries from Ubereats.

coolcahuna · 27/03/2026 16:56

I love when this kind of thing happens and I would be as chuffed as you. Enjoy the goodies and the stocked up freezer!

murasaki · 27/03/2026 16:15

It's a bugger when you're in store waiting at the till and the one visible staff member is dealing with the delivery drivers though.

OP is not the CEO of the supermarket.

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 27/03/2026 17:00

I sometimes get random extra things in my Ocado order. I stopped letting them know years ago because they always said keep it. Usually it's nothing I want but one time it was a big Dairy Milk. Result!

or, like me, wonders why one wouldn't use the shop's own service directly, or wonder how the two differ.

changedusernameforthis1 · 27/03/2026 17:23

This once happened to me but with a bouquet of flowers sent to my address by mistake. I called the company who said they couldn't take them back and that I could keep them, and then offered me 20% off if I ordered with them in the future for being honest.

Was happy to have some lovely flowers, but a little disappointed to realise nobody had actually sent them to me 🤣

ChewbaccasMrs · 27/03/2026 17:27

Uber eats offers quick delivery. Like a takeaway. No need to book a slot in advance etc.

No, sounds like the order my Auntie Eileen would get before she goes out to Bingo with the girls.

Thanks! I'm noticing a lots of delivery apps are including this now. It makes sense. My only bugaboo is foreign ownership taking over. But, free market and all that.🤷‍♀️

Not UK, I guess?
As we are now practically house bound I use Tesco and Ocado week and week about. They've both been great and the Tesco drivers are good with bringing the crates indoors. Don't need the Ocado ones to because it's all bagged and can just be dumped unpacked in the hall.
I'm miffed we've never had extras 😥

This trumps the experience I once had where I ordered food for my lunches for the week from Sainsbury’s via Uber Eats and instead received a single Rustlers burger, a pack of fags and a small bottle of vodka 🤣🤣🤣

Don't knock it that's three of your five a day there..
