Resident doctors synicsl strike again

uneffingbelievable · 25/03/2026 20:22

The resident doctors have once again announced a 6 day strike to co incide with a bank holiday weekend.

Whilst I support fair pay and working conditions I have lost all sympathy with them. This is not poverty when you are being paid as a whole package 40-95000 gross on a 44 hr week depending on your seniority.

The arguments about lack of jobs did not stack up with more jobs going to home graduates than IMGS despite the hysteria and a huge number of home graduates not even bothering to apply.

They are coming across as tone deaf and entitled or am I missing something.

The trainee medics I know want the jobs. They couldn’t give a damn about the pay. They want jobs, and are mightily pissed off at the BMA sinking their very valid requests for jobs by consistently tagging on a greedy little gripe about pay to every strike.

The BMA need to look around and get a grip. Who has had solid real times pay increases since 2008? Pretty much no one! Read the room FGS. You’re not special.

Never thought I was ? Again weird.

ALL the resident doctors I know are v happy with UKG priority as all have got into training this year because of it. However, all will be striking. We obviously know v different young people. That is possible as most I know come from poor backgrounds and don't have parents to help them out.

mumsneedwine · 01/04/2026 10:52

No one has to strike if they disagree with BMA so not really a problem.

mumsneedwine · 01/04/2026 10:55

No one ?

No one ?

Genuinely not sure about this, what year was it?
April 2010 starting salary for band 5 nurse 21176. For F1 22523.
In April 2025, starting salary band 5 nurse 31049, F1 38831.
So nurses pay erosion is actually higher when comparing to the 2025 figures.

mumsneedwine · 01/04/2026 11:41

Dates are at the bottom ? Using ONS data.

It's pay erosion %. Not pay rise

Bearnese · 01/04/2026 11:46

Many, many other people have suffered pay stagnation. The thing is NHS doctors are employees of the state. And the state is skint. So they don’t get a pay rise.

That’s EXACTLY how it works in the private sector. But on top of this many private sector employees suffer ENDLESS round ms of redundancies. Thats life. I can’t see why public sector workers should be shielded from the realities of life. In my company 150 people were made refundant in January. The junior doctors just come across as arrogant, ignorant idiots.

You just can't compare the two. In the private professional sector, if your employer doesn't pay you what you think you are worth, you are free to move to another company. Significant pay increases happen in that way. If you can't get a higher paid role, then the market has decided your worth. Also if you are made redundant you have the same options. Not the case if you are an NHS employee.

Most of us will trust actual real life people we know exist and have met. Not randoms on social media. Because we are not 13.

Exactly. Who would take the word of anyone saying they are a consultant on MN.

PurpleFairyLights · 01/04/2026 12:11

mumsneedwine · 01/04/2026 10:36

Ah the insults have started. Never takes long. Can't argue so insult. Same old. Maybe people here are 13 after all !

Unfortunately the insults and misinformation always surface. I noted an escalation a few days ago.

I noticed this too, and I thought it was strange because @uneffingbelievable began a very grown up sort of conversation with many very interesting contributions. With time on my hands I wondered if by collecting the unhelpful posts together a pattern might emerge. What do you make of them?

1)Please learn to read and comprehend better
2)You seem to have a grudge against doctors and believe lawyers are all just so amazing, so hopefully they'll be able to treat you when you are sick.
3)Good to see the usual UK doctor haters turn up as soon as I post 😂. I shall expect the usual patronising, derogatory remarks very soon.
4)And again, your hatred of doctors is outstanding. Assume you're a lawyer ?
5)Whataboutery at its finest on show here…Don't like doctors ? Fine, don't use them 🤷‍♀️.
6)I assume you are campaigning to prevent more medical schools opening and for the closure of the ones you deem unacceptable ?...I'm sure the GMC will welcome your information as to why they are wrong and you are right about the rubbish standards of education.
7)Can you not read the disparaging and mean remarks people make on here about doctors.
8)Bollocks I'm afraid. F2s are independent. And F1s have to be a lot of the time as no one around to help.
9)But as can be seen on here. Many people hate doctors. Not sure why🤷‍♀️
10)You really don't like doctors do you !
11)And your rudeness towards F1s is quite frankly disgusting from a so called consultant (who is PAID to train them and support them).
12)Ah the insults have started. Never takes long. Can't argue so insult. Same old. Maybe people here are 13 after all !

Oh, and these:

1)There really are some posters with very unpleasant views. Envy is an ugly emotion.
2)Very tiring to see posts from people that have no idea.
3)Oh dear so much dislike of doctors and a resident expert that is not a doctor but married to a doctor of 30 years. Why are they even on this thread?

Don't agree with you at all. Strange for someone who seems to think they are an academic to show so much bias. Why have you only noticed certain posters comments while ignoring other posters comments?

You also missed my point. I was referring to a particular poster escalating to a point that nasty remarks were made about my DS. Interesting that you ignored those remarks about my DS which were a new low.

Read some of these comments out to my year 13s. They decided any consultant being that rude about their staff should be fired 😂.

Striking is not compulsory. Doctors who don't agree with it, won't.

@mumsneedwine

Well happily schoolchildren don't get to do the hiring and firing in the NHS.

@PurpleFairyLights if you are trying to have a go at me about "nasty remarks" made about your son you really must quote me directly, you can't just make things up. You chose to be outraged because I asked politely if he had got a job yet. Hardly a nasty remark. And later you implied that he was doing something fairly impressive, so that's alright then isn't it?

On the other hand all the nasty remarks and misinformation listed by marchesman above were made by you two.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 01/04/2026 16:24

@HugoElephant You obviously have NO idea about the private sector. If only it was THAT easy to change jobs and shift pay upwards! It’s obviously not easy and impossible for many. Lots of sectors are shrinking. Have you heard of AI?

No need for the histrionics. No clue whatsoever, I've only worked in it in a range of executive roles for thirty years. As I said, the market ultimately decides worth and is often a good reality check but of course that can go either way.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 01/04/2026 17:01

@HugoElephant Are you a man? Histrionics? You might have worked for donkeys years but times are very different now and I’m amazed you don’t know that. Your story and career simply isn’t replicated everywhere.

HugoElephant · 01/04/2026 17:23

I'm talking job markets for high calibre professionals. I suspect you are talking about something else entirely going by your posting style.

Please quote the nasty remarks ? I'm intrigued.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 01/04/2026 18:11

@HugoElephant So you think everyone is a professional do you? How can that be? Even in professional roles there’s no wide choice of jobs to get up the pay ladder for many. I do know about some professions by the way! I also know about the economy and redundancies and lack of jobs.

The problem with medicine is the pay is vastly skewed towards consultants, who can and do earn masses.

Also lots of consultants I know seem to have deals where by they get paid to do "0.8 of an NHS contract", but it doesn't take the hours it pays, and then do 0.4 or even 0.5 of a private contract on top. And they are not working super long hours to fit this in - we are seeing them on school run, socialising in evenings etc.

Basically the consultants get all the money.

SuzyFandango · 01/04/2026 20:06

Oh and the pensions are phenomenal. Its not reasonable to compare against corporate jobs where the pension is worth a fraction.

Suzy has it, the problem is that not all juniors will become consultants. Some will remain LE some will be GPs.
