What is wrong with MEN??!!!!

Moveoutmyway · 23/03/2026 17:10

Obviously not all men but you get my point.

This is the second incident in two weeks. Driving to do school pick up and go down a road next to a school. The opposite side to me is blocked with parked cars, a van appears at the end of the road. The guy sees me driving down but rather than waiting for me to go by he drives up to the middle of the road and proceed to park his breaks and stare down at me with some smug entitled face. He then proceeds to flick his fingers at me, indicating for me to reverse back. I refused to move and kept repeating I had right of way. At this point I was shaking from anger and had my baby in the back screaming. Luckily a lovely (lady) pedestrian came along and said a few words to him. Lone behold he decided to reverse, not after wasting 5 minutes of my time. I hope he got his ego stroked, big man in his big van making a point.

What is it with these stuck up men thinking they own the roads?! Just because you have a willy doesn't make you exempt from following the right of way code.

Rant over.

It's been a hard week and this was the icing on the cake for me. Literally burst into tears and had to collect myself in the school car park before collecting DD. What the hell is wrong with some men?! Seriously, who raised them?!

Arses.

canuckup · 23/03/2026 17:14

He wouldn't do that to another man

Nourishinghandcream · 23/03/2026 17:14

You think it is only men?

Unfortunately I have seen similar behaviours from both sexes and don't even get me started on the selfish parking on the school run (90% of which appears to be done by women).

FloralSpray · 23/03/2026 17:22

Yes. They should add more parking to the driving test

Shade17 · 23/03/2026 17:33

I think we need more info, were you already passing the parked cars before he started or did he start passing them first?

TakeTheCuntingQuichePatricia · 23/03/2026 17:36

I always know when it's school run time because we end up with queues of cars in both directions, neither if which will give way to the other so they just sit honking their horns. Idiots.

BCBird · 23/03/2026 17:36

Oops. Clicked unreasonable instead of other. This has happened to mr in two occasions. It's totally unnecessary and aggressive

Spaghettea · 23/03/2026 17:37

Yanbu. I had two scummy aggressive men drive behind ?me yesterday. One guy was going mental as I'd had the audacity to not risk running a red light. Yelling in his car and waving his hands around, I hope he has an early heart attack. (Not sorry).

Walkden · 23/03/2026 17:38

In my experience, entitled driving like this is not exclusive to men.

Moveoutmyway · 23/03/2026 17:38

@Shade17 I was already on the road yes and I had right of way since my side of the road was clear and not his but rather than waiting he decided to block the road.

I had this the sane this afternoon. He wanted me to reverse, I couldn’t as more cars were behind me. In the end I parked up, in the space that was free for him to pull into to enable us to pass. I let them all sort themselves out then drove off.
But yes, it’s always men.

mondaytosunday · 23/03/2026 17:41

The etiquette is if you turn into a road that someone else is already on you pull over until they pass unless there’s an area on the road to pull in to. It’s annoying and wastes everyone’s time if not adhered to. Though I often get the weird thing of pulling over to let a car pass, then they pull over to let me pass… so now what? Silly people.

It's low and behold not lone behold.

Ncforgoodreason2026 · 23/03/2026 17:43

Ha! I had the same, many, many years ago. I was about 19, it was my right of way but down comes white van man. He starts gesticulating and shouting and blowing his horn, but I wasn’t moving. In the end, he got out and came strutting towards my car. Turned out he was about 5ft tall! I got out too, I towered over him and told him I had nowhere else to be, so I’d just sit there all day. He slunk back to his van and reversed. Twat.

You don’t automatically have priority if the obstruction is on the other side (no such thing as “right of way” on the roads). If the oncoming traffic has started passing the obstruction before you get to it then they have priority. Not saying that was the case here, just asking as it’s a common misconception.

Polyethyl · 23/03/2026 17:45

I had this. 3 workmen in a van gesticulating and laughing at me. So I switched off my engine, got out my book and started to read, whilst sipping from my tea flask.
He reversed.

Passaggressfedup · 23/03/2026 17:46

This happened to me this weekend. He was definitely in the wrong, knew it, and was waiting for me to reverse, assuming I would make a mess of it. Instead, I smiled at him, and immediately reversed with incredible skills, even I impressed myself 😂By the time he passed, he looked so sheepish, it was hilarious. The car behind me waited the whole time and then signal me to go before they did. It was actually quite satisfying. I think that's what I'll do if it happens again!

Fuck me, if this is what you think you should try driving round my area of London.

You'll be in for a treat with all the road rage and willy waving.

I can only assume you haven't driven about much or you've just used a 'learned' Mumsnet reply without thinking.

It's so annoying when people don't follow the rules of the road. Not so long ago I was at a mini roundabout, waiting for the driver to my right to go, because of course they have right of way. But the driver waved for me to go on. There was nothing else on the road. I have no idea why they did this.
