Starting a thread for a bit of fun -

If it wasn’t for Mumsnet I would never…

Here’s mine - Left my husband 😱

What’s yours?

OP posts:
Iamthemoom · 21/03/2026 09:13

Have read a book that massively changed my work success for the better.

Also, gone on Mounjaro and lost 4 stone!

(wow just realised how life changing Mumsnet has been! Great thread OP!)

Stopped ironing adult son and husband's clothes

Bought Waripa pants..best decision of my adult (40+) life after being an m&s pants wearer for decades.

Adding Ivermectin to my skincare regime... Took several years off me!!

Never believed how many women had infantilised waste of space partners / husbands who left them to do everything and still wondered were they unreasonable to suspect a tiny amount of support (at best) or not scorn and spite. Terrifying!!

Edited

I just ordered some of those pants thanks to your comment, and this thread

Could have been! I don't actually remember who it was just on a thread of things you learned from mumsnet and it came up so often I thought I had to check it out. The elastic comfort and scoop in are all amazing!! The bigger the brief the better too!!

I am a wirapa convert too.
I really enjoy putting my knickers on each morning now! It feels like they are hugging me.
Small pleasures.

Lavendersquare · 21/03/2026 09:41

Discovered that some people have penis beakers 😂, or googled dragon butter (don’t be tempted to do it!) 😱

Losted · 21/03/2026 09:45

Gone to Efteling - loved it so much we have booked again for this year.

Thanks MN!

Been brave enough to leave my abusive ex-husband.

I remember my first post, over 20 years ago…. ‘My DH hits me, is this abuse…’ and the replies I got - and what I was asked - made me realise he was financially, emotionally, sexually and physically abusing me.

I honestly believed I was the problem. There was a case in the news where a woman had been beaten almost to death and my ex-h said “see - that’s abuse, he’s violent. What I do isn’t, and if you were nicer, it wouldn’t happen”.

So I came here to the Relationships board to ask. It was unbelievable to read what people said - mind blowing actually to get all the ‘yes, LTB’ replies. I expected them to say what he had, and thought most marriages were like mine (I can’t believe that looking back, he’d absolutely done a number on me). People held my hand through the entire process from getting him to leave, filing for divorce and eventually moving on.

I’m eternally grateful to have found Mumsnet and to all those posters who took the time to help me. Thankyou.

Omg this post made my eyes well up. I’ve been on MNet a similar time to you and I often wonder if some of the women have taken the LTB advice.

This site has become a nightmare of trolls over the last few years but when an abused woman posts, the vipers put their sharp tongues away and give so much support.

I’d love to know if I posted on your original thread latte I change my username every month now so I’ll never know.

Appreciated just how serious was the impact of my ex's alcoholism.

Seen how a notable proportion of women absolutely despise men.

I'm far more concerned about the notable number of men who kill women.

In the UK, that's to the tune of 2-3 per week.

SpiritOfEcstasy · 21/03/2026 18:14

Heard of DARVO, weaponised incompetence, mental load as part and parcel of parenting. Left my exH. Learned that Diptyque bar soap is a luxury I’m unwilling to live without. Thanks MN.

I would not have found Woolly Hugs, learned how to knit properly and contributed to two blankets, as well as knitted baby clothes for my BFF's grandson.

I would also not have met the brilliantly bonkers wonderful women of the Bluestocking Pub and the lovely calm community of the dull and unexciting news threads.

But mostly I would have struggled with not having a job much more than I have done.

Found a brand of trainer-socks which don't slip off your heels & scrunch up under your feet.

I was already aware that a notable proportion of men despise women. It's been all over the news for years. I wasn't aware of how many women despise men. You might find that uninteresting, unsurprising and/or you may even subscribe to the same view. Fair enough. It just took me by surprise as the women I know in my day to day life don't express those kinds of viewpoints. Or, if they do, they hide it very well.

As an Aussie who moved to London some years ago, most of what I (think I) now understand about the British comes from Mumsnet. Who knew cards were so important to people? That there were people who simultaneously think it’s fine not to shower every day but disgusting to lie down on your bed in the clothes you wore outside earlier in the day? Get outraged when asked a favour instead of just saying that they can’t or would prefer not to do the thing asked? You are all insane, but at least I understand you better now!

Same! We first took our kids 7 years ago after reading about it on here. Priceless memories made, thanks to Mumsnet.

Grew a backbone.

I used to be extremely sensitive, but with the way some posters speak to people on here I've managed to learn to take it on the chin and get on with it.

I would never have known about matched betting - I made £14k in 2 years and as a single parent it was very much needed

What is this I never heard of it

If it wasn`t for MN i would never have know - how batshit crazy some woman can be.
It makes me feel quiet normal.

DickieAnderson · 22/03/2026 02:58

Realised at just 40 I was perimenopausal and convinced my doctor I was based on lots of symptoms I didn’t know about that I read on here. She even said she’d looked on mumsnet herself for real experiences (it’s her special interest) and was unaware of some.

I started my period a month before my 9th birthday and started puberty at 7 and 1/2 and my mum was 10 and went through full menopause at 45 but everyone was saying I was too young.

I’m nearly 42 now and haven’t had a period in 3 months so really worried that full blown menopause has started but the support and knowledge I get from mumsnet has been invaluable and led to far more support from my doctor.

I have also posted and had support with other issues I couldn’t discuss in real life and I’m so grateful to that.

I hope this site stays as it is (despite the trolls - although they can be entertaining) just reading these few comments shows how many people have benefited from this site.

Learnt about boundaries and realised I didn’t have any.
