Or the best compliment you've ever gotten?

(Posted here for traffic, teehee)

I feel so uplifted right now after just having one of the most pleasant social exchanges of my life. Without being too outing, I was just speaking to someone I know, who I will not be able to see anymore, and she said to me "you are one of the sweetest souls I've ever had the pleasure to meet. It is so clear to see that your children love you and I admire you fighting so fiercely for them despite everything you've got going on".

I honestly was tearful at this and am again thinking about it now. It can make such a difference to someone who has no support system and does quite literally everything for their family alone. Having someone show such kindness and love really made me feel seen, and like its not all just done in virtue. Its nice to be recognised sometimes and has given me such a boost to continue in life in general, with a positive attitude.

A favourite compliment that I get is being called funny, I like making people laugh and always has. Always makes me feel good when someone says it.

So, whats the nicest thing anyone has ever said to you? And / or the best compliment you've ever received?

I don't know if this qualifies but it happened last night so it's on my mind. My Mil has Alzheimer's she lives with us and I care for her. She doesn't sleep well so we are often up in the night. Last night she had a really lucid moment. She looked me in the eye and said 'Thank you I feel Safe'.

"You're not shy, you're reserved. You have a quiet confidence.". Said by someone when I was young. I hadn't really experienced insight or encouragement up til then. I've carried it with me since.

I was mid forties doing an intensive six week course in my organisation with a group of young professionals who all absorbed the knowledge and learned much faster than me.
I had an end of course review with the assessor and he spoke about my energy and enthusiasm and said he would see me on the advanced course in the future.
I was starting the menopause and feeling old, knackered and thick so it was wonderful to hear.
I did the advanced course last year and have nearly got my next professional qualification.

I would just like to thank everybody who has taken the time to comment on this thread. There has been so many genuinely beautiful comments on here, and while I dont have the time to reply to everyone, I have read all of them and they have all brought a smile to my face, and so many others reading, too. It really brightened my day yesterday and today to hear of all the wonderful things people still say and do to/for eachother. Faith in humanity restored.

Keep on spreading the love, guys. This world needs more of it. You are all brilliant ❤️

Probably a 6 year old little boy at my school writing me a card during wet play that said 'You ar perity' Most adorable compliment ever 🥰

25mini7 · 21/03/2026 09:17

That i am a supermum. Biggest compliment ever for me, I raised twins single handedly with no help.

DairyMilkMaid · 21/03/2026 09:27

One of my work colleagues recently said I was sunshine in human form and it made my week! Another colleague asked it I was in the next day (I work across lots of offices) and said 'yay!' when I said I was 😊

@Megapint that is so touching. You have given her something so precious. I'm teary eyed hearing that.

I was chatted up last Saturday night, out with my friends. He was my age, lovely personality & we really clicked.
I'm overweight but he said I had lovely hair & beautiful eyes. My heart melted ❤️

Gotback · 21/03/2026 14:17

"You're the best neighbour I've ever had", said by 2 different neighbours too. Mind you, they may have lived next to real horrors before!

RealityChecksNeeded · 21/03/2026 14:23

I went for a hospital appointment today, (weekend Gynae clinic) to explore my options around sterilisation.

When I got there, the lady confirmed my name and then asked for my DOB, I told her and she said, 'no, I need YOUR date of birth', I told her that is my DOB and then confirmed my address.

She was very apologetic and told me she thought I was joking as there's no way I was born in 1980.

I'm 45 and had a baby 6 months ago!

Superficial yes but when life is feeling as brutal as it has been, a little boost goes a long way and to top it all, the sun is shining!

Megapint · 22/03/2026 18:27

@Springspringspringagain - Thank you. This journey with her has been the most challenging thing I've ever done. I question my self constantly if I'm doing the right thing. These little and infrequently moments of clarity let me know that I am. I met her when I was 16 and life at home was rough, she let me move into her home and gave me a soft place to land. She's been the best grandma to my kids and the main focus of my life right now is to keep her safe and comfortable.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 22/03/2026 18:52

A friend told me she loves the way I can speak to anyone with ease and make people feel comfortable. I was really chuffed. Without sounding conceited, I’ve had many compliments about my looks, and it’s lovely to have a compliment about my personality.

Just beautiful.. 💖

Wildflowerswildhorses · 23/03/2026 00:15

My friend and I were laughing about something and she said "see this is why I love you". I love her, too. We've been friends for 50 years.

youbizarrehorse · 23/03/2026 00:45

My cousin told me she admired how calm I was when dealing with DS1 who got very ill while she was staying with us. The thing is, I’m usually flapping about like a headless chicken when there’s a crisis, but didn’t want to make a show of myself when we had visitors🤣 I don’t think I have ever been described as calm in my life, but it felt lovely!

GrimlyFeendish · 23/03/2026 02:22

One of my friends once described me as ‘majestically afraid’

Batnm · 23/03/2026 02:26

I was in a queue for an airport toilet. The little girl behind me (maybe about 5 years old) told me I look like a princess.
Admittedly it was just because I have long hair and was wearing a maxi dress, but it was still the nicest out of the blue compliment I have ever received.

A group of us chatting at work (pre covid days so we were in the office), we were talking about the French resistance during WW2 & I said I'd like to think I would have been brave enough to take part & someone said 'you'd be bloody running it'! & lot's of people agreed. I'm taking it as a compliment

My brother once said to me I'd have been in the SOE which boosted me enormously (we don't do compliments). They'd have had to physically push me out of the plane to get me to France but once there I'd have fought tooth and nail for justice so I guess he was right.

Wordsmithery · 23/03/2026 04:29

A friend told me that, more than anyone she knows, I'm comfortable in my own skin. I'm actually plagued by self doubt but since she said it I realised it was something I'd love to be true, so it's what I now aspire to.

We have a 12 week old baby with severe silent reflux. My husband unprompted told me the other morning I was an amazing mummy and wife, that he couldn’t ask for better, that I was his best friend and he loved me very much. I’ve been exhausted and worried I wasn’t doing enough, and it was like a big hug.

Sudagame · 23/03/2026 06:46

My late dad when l was a little girl around 4 or 5 and we were listening to the radio together, my dad loved the old tunes and we'd sing them together , Que Sera Sera came on by Doris Day and when it got to where she sings 'Will l be pretty, will l be rich etc. l said to my dad 'Will l be pretty daddy?'
Without a moments hesitation he replied 'Well you will be to me'
The other one was my son as an 11 year old when l used to walk our dog to meet him and his older sister from school sometimes. He said l like you meeting me mum. When l said that's nice and asked why, he said because you don't look like a mum. I was a young mum anyway but l always made an effort even though we were really struggling yeah thanks exh and l was doing two jobs to keep afloat, think l wore the same jeans for about 4 years and charity shop tops, but always did my hair, bit of make up etc.

sashh · 23/03/2026 07:09

Someone I worked with, "You ask me to do things in a way that makes me want to do them". No idea what I do / did.

From a student, the rest of the group greed, "Miss you are insane, but you are our kind of insane". I'd had them playing out being eukaryotic cell membranes.

One that wasn't meant as a complement but made me do a happy dance, teaching maths to students 16+ who have not got GCSE yet.

"Oh I get that, I never understood that at school" BTW I'm disabled so my 'dance' is waving my hands around.

Oh you poor thing, I have been there & it is horrible & you feel so useless. Well done to your husband & I know it's a cliche but it definitely gets better. My reflux boy is now 18, driving, working & living a great life xx

At a school reunion (the year we were all 40) a girl that I hadn’t seen since leaving came up to me and said she was so envious of me at school as I was pretty and popular, but mostly was so grateful to me for protecting her and standing up to the boys that used to bully her because of her looks. I was so touched and still get tearful thinking about that lovely compliment.
