Why so rude? It was a genuine question.

It means it’s terribly po-faced to point out the flaw in every argument when the whole point is we know the arguments aren’t logical.

Dogs should not be allowed inside publc spaces (unless they are assistance dogs). I will always decline your request to bring your dog with you to my house or any social event we are attending. Also, dogs are not your babies.

But you're supposed to slow down to go over speed humps. I never understand why this annoys people

Yes! Speed bumps are there to slow you right down for safety reasons. We were considering having some in our private road (around our blocks of flats) to make it safer for kids, but people voted against it saying “they damage your car”. Only if you don’t slow down you numpties! That’s the point!

Guilty as charged, but incredibly happy!

Also guilty, and also have a washing machine ( and a regularly washed dog)

People who have any form of cosmetic procedure never look younger, they just look like they've had surgery.

Ok probably a few here.

Dislike people who hate animals, I generally think there’s something joyless about them. Certainly would put me off being good mates with them.

Mumsnet has quite a lot of quite prim, entitled people who feel the world should be bent around their likes and dislikes. I picture some posters with sticks up their arses. There’s a lot of worry and concern over appearances, money, where dogs go, what others do, they just need to remove the sticks and chill the fuck out.

A lot of people are actually frightened of their children. I find that bizarre. The word no is not going to blow their household apart.

Again another unpopular one for Mumsnet, whereas I get the complexity of competing in sports and sharing changing rooms, I think people have every right to be trans if they want. Not my business. Mumsnet is obsessed with trans stuff and I really don’t get it.

Voting should entail a questionnaire first, so we can ascertain the voter has some kind of clue what they’re voting for.

Also really dislike the people on social media who just write VOTE REFORM in large letters. Can’t they mix it up a bit, and if they’re a bot, can they still not mix it up a bit. They’re fucking boring.

I expect some backlash for this.

Here’s one: people who write virtuously "I think people have every right to be trans if they want. Not my business." when actually very few would object to people being trans if they want, if the trans people didn’t insist on making it everyone else's business by demanding that everyone else use the language the trans person wants them to and demanding admission to spaces, awards, opportunities etc. reserved (for good reasons) for a single sex.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/03/2026 08:24

Yes, you can wear - or not wear - whatever you like, but that won’t alter the fact that some outfits are going to make you look irredeemably tarty/common as muck/chavvy/attention-seeking/slovenly/slatternly (pyjamas in public).

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 18/03/2026 08:26

Anyone who posts about their partner's 'hobby', without revealling what it is 'because it might be outing' deserves a lifetime ban from mumsnet.

Actually that probably isn't unpopular.

At gigs, everyone should be forced to stand in height order. I don't care if that splits up couples and friendship groups.

Yep. Tall people need to sit at the back of the theatre.

Contrary to earlier posters, I think there is much more undiganosed / unrecognised ND about and in years to come so called NT will be the minority.

They’d have to swap the labels then…

That lip pumping just looks so obvious and silly. In my head I laugh when I see it on grown women. I wouldn’t dream of saying it out loud. They always looked better before. Just why.

Pumpkinmagic · 18/03/2026 08:34

People not taking responsibility for their dogs poor behaviour. Not walking the dog adequately or attempting any kind of training where they have to put in some effort and consistency. Then making lighthearted ‘get a dog they said’ comments. The dog isn’t the issue, it’s you.

The ones who slow right down to go over a speed hump

They're swiftly overtaken by me in the fiesta

That’s because they don’t want to knack their suspension.

Pumpkinmagic · 18/03/2026 08:39

Comparing your dog to my baby in that it’s just the same to look after and that they can grow up together, like they are cousins. Just no. Expecting Easter/Christmas/Birthday/Valentines treats for said dog.

People who are disapproving of threads like this usually stick around to read the whole thing.

The men (and it’s always men) that drive at excess speed down my 30mph road should be stopped at the end of the road, their cars seized and be made to walk back down the full length of the road with no trousers or pants on so we can all laugh at their tiny willies.

Hey @Isadora2007 ,

Stretching this thought process a little further, I wondered does this opinion extend to Olympians? Or footballers like the Lionesses, representing their country on the world stage?

These people spend an inordinate amount of time away from their family to pursue their goals (pun not intended).

Additionally, is this just a sports thing? Or does it extend to people who have other very time consuming professions, such as heart surgeons or surgical oncologists? Again from experience these people have very little time with their family day-to-do, due to the demands of the profession they've chosen.

Alternatively if the ultra marathon competitor was doing it as their main job, I.e representing their country in athletic/ running competitions, would it be less of an issue for you?

I only ask because most people cannot 'afford' to represent their country, they have to have day jobs to facilitate their day-to-day life, so if people didn't pursue their passions as a hobby, we'd likely have even more individuals existing with mental health challenges.

Funnily enough, yes I guess it does. Although lots of the sporting teams are more and more family friendly now for training and travelling which is fab to read.
I know it’s more of a “Me”’issue and believe me I am trying to work on it. But yeah I guess I am very much ingrained in the Mums should put their children first and spend as much time as possible with them, and make sacrifices such as not being high powered business women or full time brain surgeons if that takes them away from parenting for too long. I strongly feel children are being robbed of good attachment basis with the push for full time working for both parents or indeed the necessity due to cost of living and housing etc. I believe this is impacting on MH issues as so much of our childhood experiences is linked to our mental health and wellbeing and the beliefs we hold about ourselves. So whilst you see a focus on hobbies being important to MH preservation, I see mums being present for their children in the early years and beyond as a focus. But I am sure there are many shades of grey in this.

I don't like Colin the Caterpillar cake.

I was genuinely grateful that so many groups of people made an effort to celebrate my birthday last year, but I can't deny I was disappointed it was Colin who showed up at every event.

Contrary to earlier posters, I think there is much more undiganosed / unrecognised ND about and in years to come so called NT will be the minority.

Well that doesn’t make sense then does it. If it’s “typical” then that’s the norm. So if more people fit into the ND categories then the fact is that the definitions are wrong and the spectrum has been widened too much to fit the diagnosis and be meaningful any more if everyone meets some criteria in it.

Agreed. And the same applies to adults.
