Just get mounjaro!

Pinklightning · 17/03/2026 08:04

The more threads I read, the more and more posters seem to respond with “just get mounjaro” for posters wanting to lose as little as 10 lbs to get within a healthy BMI. More traditional methods of weight loss appear to be out of fashion and as though you’d be foolish to do it the perceived hard way when you can just inject a drug.
I was reading a thread where a poster had a BMI of just over 25 who was told to just get WLIs. What happened to them being for those who are obese?
Is this the way things are going now? Gained a few pounds over Christmas or on holiday? Just inject and don’t worry about it!
Anybody going against the grain of weight loss injections is often accused of being jealous. It’s a bit cult like on some threads as though WLI are the only valid way to lose weight and you’d be foolish to try any other way because “diets don’t work” and just adopting a healthier diet and lifestyle is laughable; a fool’s game and you’ll end up fat again. Well, yes, if you go back to your old habits, just like any method of weight loss.

Just a bit of a rant really on this sunny Tuesday!

This has become personal in a way I’m not interested in engaging with. That wasn’t my intention, but I’m stepping away now.

I think you’ve been extremely personal and dismissive of people either taking WLI or know someone with lived experience.

Your research is flawed as pointed out.

You’re stating stuff as “fact” when it’s not and assuming that people are unable to make their own informed decisions.

Time will tell if users need the medication for “life”, even if they do, which I doubt, it’s their decision.

Wildgoat · 17/03/2026 16:18

I’m a little bemused, it reads to me like a poster who isn’t on tn4 meds has decided to take a public service approach and inform people they may need to be on for life, in case they didn’t know. And they need to change their eating habits, that’s kind, very. I wonder if they are on the other diet threads like slimming world or low carb and informing them they need to do the same?

it’s lovely how many women are so concerned for other women, on these injections, that they feel the need to help them just in case. Even though they never asked for that help. And are so very concerned for them. Sitting there getting all slim and lovely.

This a thread whose OP is critical of the overuse of WLJ.

It’s not billing itself as WLJ support thread for users who want to exchange platitudes and minimise the risks.

It’s on AIBU, which means she’s asking is she BU?

So, you only want people to comment that agree that she’s not being unreasonable.

This is a board that is for “discussion” points? And if everyone agrees it wouldn’t be a discussion, would it?

Maybe petition MN for an anti WLI board and you and other members can post there and moan at anyone with a different view.

The entire point of the OP was that she had noticed a tendency for people to say “just get mounjaro” for posters who don’t have much weight to lose to get to a healthy weight. That was her AIBU.

I’m not overweight so I’m not invested in jabs the way posters reliant on them are.

A more relevant suggestion would surely be a dedicated WLJ forum for the jabbers to moan to each other?

There already is a dedicated WLI forum, so not really.

There is one.

I agree op. My partner is about 3 stone overweight. He's started running three times a week a month ago. It's made his mood so much better and losing weight gradually. He probably could use monjaro and lose more quickly but it's a lazy alternative to actually putting the effort in and changing his lifestyle. What is really odd to me is people congratulating people losing weight with monjaro and gastric bands, it's not like they've put any effort into losing weight!

Surely the lazy thing was him putting on weight, I hope you’ve shamed him for that? Called him lazy etc?

Or is it just people who take WLI that you shame and call lazy?

Just tell him to be careful as he will probably put it all back on and more, as studies show.

I've encouraged him for a long time to lose weight as I know it's not good risk wise and his mood was low. He's not much happier now he's got into the exercise habit.

Agreed, whilst also acknowledging that there is a dedicated WLI board.
Some posters have massively veered off topic and kind of proven the OP's point.
I'm hoping that the OP will be back at some point and that I haven't just been sucked in.

If he's about 3 stone overweight, unless he's really tall then he's obese. A white bloke of 6 foot 4 needs roughly 3 stone to go from BMI 25 to 30. And if he is obese, statistically he might well be able to lose the weight, but odds are very much against him keeping it off. So hopefully it's a good decision for him! Especially as he is now exercising too.

So are the people I know that are taking WLI, they’ve lost weight and are inspired to start exercising and learning healthier food habits.

Oh sorry, they’re not to be applauded, they’re just lazy and make no effort!

Shame he didn’t take any notice and was a miserable fucker then.

Would you have preferred him to stay that way, if he said he needed the aid of WLI? Even though you knew him being obese was a risk?

You sound incredibly unsupportive.

zurigo · 17/03/2026 17:01

I'm all for WLI for those who have a serious problem with their weight - like my DH. He was obese and had been for 20 years when he went on WLIs. He lost 30kg and is in the best shape of his adult life. It's been amazing and transformational for him.

I, OTOH, gained 4kg between Dec-Mar and have cut out snacks, sugar, white carbs and alcohol. This is how I know I can lose weight fairly easily and quickly. I'm down 2.2 kg already and my trousers now do up without me feeling like I'm being cut in halves. Yay me 😁

I8toys · 17/03/2026 17:04

I don't understand why those who have reached their goal then continue to use a maintenance dose when they are not at the required weight to get the drug in the first place. Surely its then down to maintaining through lifestyle change and diet and exercise.

Well done both of you, what a great relationship and you don’t feel the need to call your partner lazy.

Im glad he’s doing well and enjoying his new life.
