AIBU to challenge someone using video call in communal changing rooms?

AiBU to speak to a woman in the changing room who was having a video call at the mirror whilst doing her hair? No one was behind her at that point but it is an open communal changing room with showers and women walk around in and out of the shower with/without towels.

She looked really surprised to be spoken to. I just said “I don’t think you should have your camera on in the changing rooms” She said no one was behind her so couldn’t see the issue.
AIBY?

YANBU. You should have alerted staff

pinkyredrose · 16/03/2026 18:21

YANBU!!

Duvetdayneeded · 16/03/2026 18:22

Stupid woman. Yanbu

newornotnew · 16/03/2026 18:24

YANBU, it should be reported.

Poetnojo · 16/03/2026 18:24

Jesus Christ, what on earth was she thinking?!
You were definitely right to challenge her on it, what a bloody idiot.

BlusteryLake · 16/03/2026 18:24

Good lord, people are just getting less and less socially aware. Completely inappropriate to have a camera on in any kind of changing room.

Notsureaboutthatreallyy · 16/03/2026 18:24

Yes I’m in the gym now but will tell them on my way out.

YANBU. At my gym you are not allowed to use your phone at all in the changing room for any purpose. Like at school where the kids all ‘just looking at the time’.

Notsureaboutthatreallyy · 16/03/2026 18:26

She was just so surprised and there was no one behind her so I was doubting myself that I was overreacting…

Even if there was nobody behind her at that particular moment, there could be seconds later.

Whyherewego · 16/03/2026 18:30

Yes I'd complain to gym staff. Absolutely unacceptable

Tanyyya · 16/03/2026 18:31

You are never wrong to challenge someone video call in public. Why do people do this??

She probably hadn't even thought about the impact on other people and was embarrassed at being challenged. Her lack of thought doesn't mean you were wrong.

lottiegarbanzo · 16/03/2026 18:33

Well if course there was no-ne behind her! What a tit!

Jopo12 · 16/03/2026 18:34

At my gym there are signal blockers in the changing room so you couldn't have a video call even if youwanted to! Which I think is the right thing.
I'm glad you reported her to the staff

DuckonaBike · 16/03/2026 18:35

At my gym you’re not allowed to use phones at all in the changing rooms - I once saw someone get one out to check messages and someone else immediately told her off and she apologised and put it away. You absolutely can’t have a video call in a changing room!

Musicaltheatremum · 16/03/2026 18:40

I challenged a young lady in the changing room about this. I was getting changed at my locker and she was at the mirror with her phone propped up looking my way.
I interrupted her and asked on what planet did she think it was acceptable to have a video chat in a changing room. She was actually very apologetic and stopped straight away and apologised again. I honestly think she just didn't think.
I didn't actually report it but would on another occasion and especially if the person couldn't see what was wrong

AnOldCynic · 16/03/2026 18:40

What was she talking about to her friend? I’m past caring now and would have just joined in her conversation to piss her off 😂

Devilsmommy · 16/03/2026 18:42

What kind of idiot thinks using a camera in a changing room is in any way ok? The complete stupidity of people amazes me

She wasn’t speaking English

She must be very dim. Well done for confronting her and alerting reception. Given how aggressive people can now be when confronted with their anti-social behaviour it takes courage.

I’m a teacher so just put my teacher voice on - “do you think that’s a good idea?” Haha 🤣

YANBU. Some people are so thoughtless

Notsureaboutthatreallyy · 16/03/2026 19:42

Disappointingly wishy-washy response from the receptionist when I told them on my way out. Well, we can’t really do much about it. Do you want me to get the manager? We don’t know who it is. I’m not sure if it’s against the rules, lots of people break the rules. She seemed to think I was making a big fuss. David Lloyd.

Actually, I'd likely be quite blunt about it: Turn your video off before I do. What's wrong with you?
