Just saw this and thought how true it was in so many aspects of life. I think it's a pretty good mantra to live by.

Paramedic is a very specific answer. Speaking as someone related to health and in a caring profession, we do say, "don't work harder for someone than they are willing to work for themselves". Learned helplessness is a thing.

My GP wasn't chasing me down the road with smoking cessation stuff as I caned 20 Marlboro Red. But she did help I lot when I was working hard at stopping. I worked in treatment and the same is true. You work hard when the client is working hard. A physio or OT won't come to your house and make you do exercises. But they will work with you if you are willing.

Are they doing all they can to help themselves? If so then what else can you ask of them?

I don’t need to ask anything of them as my help is not transactional.
