To think I have the right to be upset about my hair?

hayleylauren · 14/03/2026 17:57

(Please note I did stand up for myself and they are bringing me in for a chat but I’m so angry)

I bought new extensions, the salon were suppose to lighten my hair as well (only a couple of shades lighter to an ashy brunette)

Now I’m copper and the blend on the extensions is non-existent. I paid £600 for this.

You can colour hair extensions that are real human hair, but I’d be really cross about doing that on a new virgin pack I’d just selected a colour in and paid £300+ for. It’s inflicting damage on a brand new product and shortening their usable life from day 1.

Sassylovesbooks · 14/03/2026 22:34

If it's your own hair on the top, then it's all dry and damaged. Sadly, I think you'll need to have your natural hair cut, to remove all the damaged ends. I don't know very much about extensions but surely they're meant to blend in with your natural hair?!!

I would have the extensions removed and ask for a full refund. There's absolutely no way, I'd trust a single person at the salon to rectify it. Go somewhere else to have your natural hair cut and then once your hair has grown again, look into extensions at another salon.

At the risk of derailing, why can't you lighten extensions? If they're real hair, surely you can?

All hair extensions have been massively chemically treated so if you try and lighten them again they will ‘blow’, they go really dry and damaged and matt easily. It’s not like bleaching real hair even if it is real hair iyswim because of the massive amounts of processing they’ve already had. Even darkening them is hard because it’s difficult to get an even saturation of colour.

Thank you - that's really interesting to know. What the hell is done to them?

I’ve been to him before for hair extension maintenance, but he’s never coloured my hair before.

I just want a boost to feel better, have a slightly newer look. And I left the salon and sat in my car crying, which yes people might think is pathetic - but feeling like you look shit does a real number on your confidence.

I would have cried too!

I once left a stylist with bright red hair. It was a permanent colour that washed out in a week. I went back and the salon owner blamed my hair and tried to sell me treatments to fix it!! I was furious but she point blank refused to redye it!

I hope they resolve this for you, if not I'd threaten trading standards

blankcanvas3 · 14/03/2026 22:44

Were your ends that damaged beforehand? I don’t think beauty works extensions are very good anymore tbh. He should have been fine putting real hair through a bleach bath though - Ive had that done to mine. I know it’s upsetting but I actually don’t think it will take that much to fix this! Everything needs blending again and another dye, but I don’t think it’s a huge job and definitely not unfixable

Gabbycat245 · 14/03/2026 22:46

Holy moly, OP. That's bad. I'm so sorry. If you're in London and want to go somewhere else (hopefully once you've gotten a refund) I can recommend a salon I've been having dye and extensions with for a year now.

Pyjamatimenow · 14/03/2026 22:48

@Needtosoundoffandbreathe they clean and sanitise it, disinfect, bleach, then colour again ( as it’s usually black hair) and then put it through a silicone treatment, plus they have to align all the cuticles. It’s really been through a lot before you get it. I don’t understand why the correct hair colour wasn’t just chosen in the first place here. These extensions are fit for the bin now sadly. They will probably start matting and

Honestly I brush them .. and I’m just in house, I’m not outside or exercising and then I can run my hands through them and they are fluffy, frizzy, tangled.

I am furious that they’ve been bleached and are just fucked now.

But the extensions feel fucked. Dry and get tangled within minutes. There’s no fix for that and I shouldn’t have to just accept that.

£600 in the north is even worse. I hope you get a refund.

DallazMajor · 14/03/2026 23:35

you could try a Brazilian blow dry to repair ? My hair was totally frazzled once and I had the treatment (it’s one that you have to leave in for 4 days) and it really did work.

You said you’re much further north than London? How north? I have some spare hair - willing to donate and refer you to my hairdresser!

Full refund and go elsewhere.if they can’t do it properly first time.

Just to clarify - I have a shit load of wefts (I’m not donating my own hair to the cause)

SparklyTwinkleGlitter · 15/03/2026 00:00

I’m not surprised you’re raging! It’s bloody awful.

Any trained hairdresser knows that you don’t bleach or colour extensions as they’re already heavily chemically treated and it automatically invalidates their guarantee. 🤦🏻‍♀️

You match the extensions to the clients hair so if the client wants a different colour, you colour their hair first then match the extensions.

In your shoes, I’d want a full refund and compensation for the damage to your natural hair.

Do not let them try to re-colour your hair. Once the cuticle layer is fried, no amount of products will repair it. A silicone conditioner will give it a temporary artificial feeling of smoothness but it’s still fried.

Remember that you do not have to allow them the opportunity to try again. Some hairdressers will try and convince you otherwise.

You could threaten to sue them for breach of contract as they haven’t performed the service to the standard expected of a qualified hairdresser.

I'd be more upset at paying £600 for a hair appointment 🤯😬

That’s the average price for the service I got.

And I don’t get the point of commenting this? What does it add?

It doesn’t financially impact me to pay that. It doesn’t mean I had to choose that and sacrifice something else.

Thank you that’s such a lovely offer. I’ll see what they have to say when I go for a chat. It’s not until Tuesday.

It was just alarming that when I sent photos she didn’t say anything .. like she didn’t say “yes that’s bad” but then that’s maybe admitting fault.

@hayleylauren I had a set like that years back. They were supposed to be Russian hair but they were so bad, the hair just kept knitting together. It was like trying to brush candy floss. I just had to bin them. In future the best brand I’ve had are additional lengths Remy cachet. They have a huge range of colours and they never Matt. I’ve been using them the last five years. You can buy them yourself online and get someone to fit them or try to find a hairdresser that stocks them. Their instagram page is really good to help you choose colours too because they list the blends.

Beauty Works. They don’t look good because he put them through a bleach bath. I’d say they are 3” longer than my actual hair. It’s just very short around my face.

I'm an ex hairdresser I used to manage a salon. Definitely go back, speak to the manager if pissible they need to fix this or refund. Those extentions have not been fone correctly and have bit been blended. Bleaching extentions is not advised either as they have already been chemically treated it is actually better to colour hsir to match extentions or buy more than one shade and blend them.
