AIBU to expect posters to read the OP’s updates before replying?

The reason for my title is that I'm getting increasingly frustrated with posters who clearly have not read all the preceding posts by the original author of the thread. There is a recent one about Mothering Sunday that is a classic example - the poor (and extremely patient!) OP is having to repeat the same points over and over and over and over..... again, simply because contributors have not read all her posts.

Now, I entirely appreciate that it's not always possible to read every post on a thread - of course not! - but surely it's possible (and, I would say, essential) to read every post by the initiator of the subject before making a response.

So, AIBU? Or is it okay to just launch in without reference to the opening poster's actual situation?

My frustration is for the opposite. OP creates a thread, MNetters ask many questions and give many opinions but the OP is no-where to been seen. No updates whatsoever. What was the point of starting the thread in the first place?

But surely its easy enough for the op to just ignore pps who havent read updates. I dont see the big deal. Why police others?. Just scroll on

Reading updates? At leaat half on MN doesn't even bother reading past title.

Re too many posts. People can just filter OP's🤷 it's a great function but seems rarely used.

Maybe some people don't know how it works?
Click the upside down triangle top right of the thread (I only use the app) and you can read all OP posts.

I totally agree that it's annoying when they don't come back, but people do tend to get frustrated pretty early on.
I've seen comments like "OP hasn't been back, one of THOSE threads 🙄" barely an hour after it's creation.
I often start a thread on the train on my way to work and then check my phone again on my lunch break and reply then. Which I think is perfectly reasonable, but the thread can get 100s of comments in that time.

Omg yes this is so annoying too! You feel like why have I bothered to reply!
