Really don't like dogs being in virtually every cafe now

Wishididntseemsogrumpy · 13/03/2026 16:47

I know another one, and yes this is quite trivial really.

Last week we went to a gorgeous new cafe, sat down, and within a minute I realised a large dog had appeared and was licking dds outstretched hand (she was delighted of course) then we had to get up and go and wash before eating, only to see the dog licking her hands again. Argh. Then it turned around and was wagging it's tail into me (I'm unfortunately allergic to fur and would rather not have to have fur on my clothes) - we werent even that close to the other table. It's just so annoying and I know I can ask it's owners to keep it away from us but seems a bit cruel to the dog and I jolly well shouldn't have to, they should be keeping an eye themselves without me having to have an awkward chat. Manners are meant to make everyone feel comfortable and not force people into seeming unreasonable because they don't want to get involved with the animal.

Then this afternoon, different cafe, on my own this time and got the fright of my life when all of a sudden a dog snarled and snapped at a child a few tables away, who of course screamed and was very distressed, someone could have had a heart attack!

I am going to have to be more mindful of places which don't have dogs in future I think.

And I imagine I am probably going to be told I am being unreasonable. I just want a coffee in peace without slobbering or snarling dogs

I don't get this. As long as you're picking up after your dog, you're fine. Those who get hung up on "shit particles" being left on the floor or whatever you think is antisocial about letting your dog toilet outside, where do you think foxes, birds, badgers, hedgehogs, and other wildlife toilet? No one is de-worming those animals or training them to toilet in private spaces.

Not picking up after your dog is anti-social. Training it to relieve itself on a walk is not.

If this is something that worries you, I'd suggest you stop licking the pavements.

It is not just antis social because of the poo - although dog poo and wee is actually toxic to wildlife. It’s the barking, the coming up to you, the lunging. They’re extremely annoying creatures to have in public spaces. It’s all antisocial to have them in small or terraced houses because of the impact on your neighbours. Therefore unless you have a large garden and a detached house, you really shouldn’t have a dog.

I think you should only be able to have a dog if you have your own space for it to shit. No dog toileting in public areas, shared spaces etc. that would solve the issue of it being on pavements and parks etc

So would the dog have to remain on the property at all times?

How would they get to the vets?

You can take them to the vets or to kennels - they would just be in your house - car - venue. And that’s it

I live in a terraced house but have a massive garden. My dog also very rarely barked. Probably about twice each year. She did not impact on my neighbours at all. In fact, when we first got her, our neighbour asked if she was ok as he never heard her at all. Neighbour on one side has her own dog. Neighbour on the other has loads of kids which actually create a lot more noise to the point I have to wear earplugs in my own house.

It is cruel to not take a dog out the house. They need mental stimulation as well as exercise. They meet other dogs (which is essential for them to be socialised).

Their little utopia doggy dystopia is just something in their head.

Meanwhile, in the real world they can just sit in a froth about a dog being outside.

It always amazes me how the people who hate dogs can think up the things they do.

I'd write to my MP with that idea if I were you.

Perhaps they can talk about it at this year's Westminster Dog Show?

This is good news for me - really keen to holiday in Cornwall, but after a dog-infested holiday in the Lakes District I vowed never again to spend my money in dog-obsessed holiday areas. Once CCC bring this law in, I'm there.

Then you'll be sorely disappointed because after researching after reading this post this "cornwall CC is fonsidering a ban on holiday makers with dogs" I couldnt find a single thing.

Dont believe everything you read on the internet....

What I did find, were conclusions that thr CC has decided to keep the dog restrictions on certain beaches at certain times of the year (rather than relax them).

But of course on the internet that becomes "CORNWALL IS BANNING DOGS!!!! "

Why would I remotely care about whether a dog gets on with other dogs?

I always hope they're some kind of troll/bot and not real people because if so I wonder how they're treating animals in the real world.

Not just animals either as the lack of empathy for their fellow man (the people who own dogs) is very worrying.

Do you have someone to talk to about this problem in real life@Talkingtomyhouseplants ?

jeaux90 · 20/03/2026 11:27

I would love to do a poll for the anti dog posters on this thread….how many of them have free roaming cats.

They aren’t humans though are they. Nor are they really animals. They are man made creatures.

WhatNoRaisins · 20/03/2026 11:30

Yeah I just don't like dogs in cafes and shops or jumping at me. I've no problem with them going outside as long as poo is bagged up and they are under control. For some people owning a pet is good for their mental health and I've nothing against that.

No - a dog as it exists today is not an animal in the true sense. It has not evolved, it has been created. It’s why dogs are actually toxic to nature and wildlife.

It does - for all the reasons that have already been mentioned ad nauseam on this thread! They are anti social pests and people are sick of them being everywhere. It is unnecessary and unpleasant.

Yes exactly! And the hatred is not irrational at all. As outlined on this thread, there are many totally reasonable reasons why a person might not like dogs. It is forced to become hatred because dog people can’t bloody well leave them at home and have to put them in your face all the time.
