I will probably get flack for this but this is the second time this has happened in as many days. I get to school pick up early, parked my car noone in front and another car few metres behind. Another car comes and parks a few metres ahead. Another one comes and parks in between me and car ahead. Plenty of room to leave her car also bang in middle of both, but no she has to move her car as near to my bumper as possible. I move car back and she moves her car forward again right on top of my bumper. I beep my horn, she gets out of car asking why I did that, I said cos you've parked as near to me as possible, she says there's a load of room behind you, I said what if someone parks the same behind, then I'll move back she said (bear in mind she was leaving her car) and everyone's happy except you, i told her to sod off. And she parked over a dropped kerb. Aibu to think she could've just parked between the two cars leaving enough room both ways

She sounds annoying but I don’t understand why it was such a huge issue when you said there was a dropped kerb and a space behind you. She wasn’t blocking you in as there was space behind you to get out. Why did it cause so much aggro?

I've only responded rudely to the ones who've been rude to me

No, you've been rude to the ones that disagree with what you have done.

BeSpoonyTurtle · 13/03/2026 18:16

MarconiPlaysTheBamba · 13/03/2026 15:57

Parking over the dropped kerb is more of an issue as once she's gone no one else will park there on account of it not being a parking spot and you'll be able to move.

It's also illegal.

Weeelokthen · 13/03/2026 17:13

Give me a chance woman, are you always this impatient 😂
Because every primary school in North Lanarkshire is carnage at school in/out times with selfish/dangerous parkers and it really upsets me. I cannot imagine it's not common problem throughout the UK.

How is it impatient to ask a question? You responded to my first comment faster than I responded to yours.
If people park selfishly or dangerously then yes that’s a problem but most of the time people are called selfish or accused of being dangerous just for being in half a mile radius of a school. if they park correctly and drive with care there’s no problem

thebrollachan · 13/03/2026 17:39

I am likewise baffled. I think we need a better diagram, to scale, with both dropped kerbs marked. Otherwise I don't understand why @OneGreyBiscuit was in any way inconvenienced.

OK OP the solution is next time, you park in a way you can get out if someone else parks up to your bumper at one end.

Moving your car after you’d already parked is what caused your problem. Why did you do that?

And then if you are a bit stuck because someone else has parked close to your bumpers, if they are also on the school run, does it matter as you know they will move their car at the point you need to move yours.

No, you've been rude to the ones that disagree with what you have done.

So being called lazy, selfish and a liar isn't rude, really? Your rude and my rude are quite a bit different then

These threads where the OP gets more and more irate as people disagree with them are always very amusing.

@OneGreyBiscuit have you considered therapy for anger management issues?

Either that or just have a nice biscuit and glass of squash because life really is too short to make such a meal of a low level parking themed altercation.

Pleased to be a source of amusement. I've had years and years of crap thrown my way and I just take it and one time I decide I'm not going to take it I get asked to get anger management. Such kind people on here. The way some of you are talking you'd think I got out of the car and chinned her.

It's a mystery why she didn't park behind you. But I'm wondering how close the other two cars were to the dropped kerbs - the one in front can't be very close, because the width of a dropped kerb isn't normally big enough to park in. If the car behind was closer to the other dropped kerb, I would have parked just on the other side of that dropped kerb, leaving a space big enough for use of the drive, but too small to park in. Then the annoying driver would probably park in the space you originally chose, but at least you could be sure of escaping (and no blocked drive).

PS did it really happen identically on two days in a row?

JustChillin70 · 13/03/2026 18:54

Park properly with enough room behind you without leaving a huge gap. Really grinds my gears when space to park is low and some idiot parks leaving the space for half a car in front and half behind them.

TequilaNights · 13/03/2026 18:54

As someone who lives in a road that is swamped from 2.30 with people who think they own the road because their children attend a school within 15 minute walk. Yabu.

Sirzy · 13/03/2026 18:55

So if you had parked up to either dropped kerb two cars could have comfortably parked without blocking the dropped kerb. But you decided you needed to park in the middle making it impossible for others to park away from the dropped kerb?

Ladybyrd · 13/03/2026 18:58

Some people are just thick. I had a Range Rover park 3 inches from my bumper the other day. Took a photo for the insurance in case I smacked it, and was fully prepared to. Luckily the car behind moved.

Yup, exactly the same, different mum. Didn't do or say anything yesterday (must control my anger issues). Didn't move the car until I left, probably where I went wrong today but certainly didn't expect her to move her car as well

Or walk, which is completely stress free.

I always think it’s funny when people say this, is it that you genuinely can’t conceive that some people may live too far away or via A roads without pavements? I find it fascinating that people have such a lack of awareness.

I parked at the edge of the dropped kerb, not the middle of it!!!! She did! And some of you wonder why I get angry when you're so quick to judge but don't even look at posts or diagrams properly!

Well for this afternoon's school run it was 1C, sleeting, windy and we have a 6 mile round trip for the school run. So miserable even with a car, let alone walking!

Luckily it wasn't my turn for the school run, so it was in fact entirely stress free for me!

Oh come on, that poster walks a marathon to and from school each day, in sub zero temps and crosses a motorway. You just need to woman up!

I actually live near 6 schools, all within a short walk, I was born here, literally, I live off the main road with a drive, so its no skin off my nose, I avoid leaving the house at school run times, however, school run parents can be the most self absorbed people, thinking they own the road and can park wherever they like and they are more important that anyone else, its really not that serious, everyone needs to park, the worst that will happen is you might have to wait for Jane to come back to her car after getting the kids from the school, is it really that big of a deal?

AgnesMcDoo · 13/03/2026 21:33

If you had plenty of space behind you what was the problem?

no need to be thinking your horn and telling people to sod off.

FarmGirl78 · 14/03/2026 10:26

It's school pick up. Even if someone does park immediately behind you, blocking the other dropped kerb, so close that you can't get out the longest you're going to be stuck in your car waiting for the other driver to return is 5 minutes. Don't sweat the small stuff!
