I will probably get flack for this but this is the second time this has happened in as many days. I get to school pick up early, parked my car noone in front and another car few metres behind. Another car comes and parks a few metres ahead. Another one comes and parks in between me and car ahead. Plenty of room to leave her car also bang in middle of both, but no she has to move her car as near to my bumper as possible. I move car back and she moves her car forward again right on top of my bumper. I beep my horn, she gets out of car asking why I did that, I said cos you've parked as near to me as possible, she says there's a load of room behind you, I said what if someone parks the same behind, then I'll move back she said (bear in mind she was leaving her car) and everyone's happy except you, i told her to sod off. And she parked over a dropped kerb. Aibu to think she could've just parked between the two cars leaving enough room both ways

As I've already said there is another dropped kerb between my car and behind, I park as far away from the school as possible, don't park over dropped kerb, don't park an inch from someone's bumper but I'm the inconsiderate one?

As far away as possible? Could you patk even further away

GoldbergVariations · 13/03/2026 16:29

I don't think sod off was called for.

When you're being spoke to in a condescending manner I think it was very appropriate, she was lucky to get sod

Beeping horns and telling her to sod off was not a good escalation. YABU

Edited

I did speak to her and she was being as condescending and sarcastic as possible

After you’d beeped your horn at her. I’m not surprised she was condescending and sarcastic. You’d already escalated it.

I meant before you started beeping - get out and have a chat.

Flamingojune · 13/03/2026 16:38

Born beeping is one of my pet hates as is parking across dropped kerbs

Mummy2mybear · 13/03/2026 16:38

How can she move back if someone parks that close behind her makes no sense.

RawBloomers · 13/03/2026 16:38

If you parked up to the dropped curb, leaving room for someone to get in/out of that drive, but otherwise maximising the amount of kerb behind you I don't see how your parking can be called inconsiderate.

Other driver was hugely inconsiderate for parking over a dropped kerb. The pulling right up to your bumper was v. poor too. Not much you can do about arseholes like that unfortunately Unless... If the owner of the car in front is another parent whom you know, you could aways get her to back up to asshole driver's bumper and then the two of you go off with the kids to a park in walking distance.

Would encourage you to swallow your annoyance and not make things even worse for the people in that neighbourhood by beeping your horn next time, though.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 13/03/2026 16:40

I don’t understand why you moved back though. If you’d not moved your car, then when the time came to leave, you would have space to do so.

You know she’s going to park an inch off your bumper so make sure there’s space behind you to reverse and get out.

Or another thought - you are both picking up, so unless you are in a massive rush to leave afterwards, won’t she also be leaving when you are? Just then wait for her to go.

Basically you are being overly dramatic. Park in a way that even if someone goes right up to your bumper at one end, you’ve got space to leave.

OneGreyBiscuit · 13/03/2026 16:40

I was not going to do a thing, I just moved my car back to leave room and she just moved hers forward again into the same position and that's when I see red and beeped the horn

Nah. No sympathy from me. Sick to death of all you lazy, selfish parents who cant be bothered to walk little Jayden to/from school putting every kid at risk because you HAVE to drive as physically close to school gates as possible.

Well I don't park over dropped kerbs so one out of two is ok

Number 1 I park as far away from school gates as possible and number 2 I'm about 3 miles away from school, in a rural area. I'm lazy and selfish because I don't want my DD to walk along busy A roads? Believe me if she could walk it, I'd let her. How rude you are!

I would assume she was moving out of the way as much as possible from the drop curb? And that’s why she was trying to get as close as possible to you.

other than that she sounds like she’s looking for an argument. Best not interact with people like that.

That’s not what she is doing, if it was she would move away from OPs car. Looking at the diagram she’s more blocking the dropped curb by getting closer to OP

ForPlumReader · 13/03/2026 16:49

You are both BU by driving your children to school and not living with the consequences when others do the same.

Thank you! I honestly think some of these replies are from similar minded people to the self entitled specimen I spoke to earlier

I get cheesed off if someone blocks me in on the school run. So I either space in front or behind to pull away. In your situation I'd have waited for he get out her car before I pulled back. I'd never antagonise anyone on the school run.

Of course you do 🙄. So do the many many many other selfish people who park next to schools.
If you are all vying for a spot in the one area i bet my house on you parking pretty near the school.

FFS, I give up! I'll just let my DD play chicken with cars that are doing 60mph plus and hope that pleases you. Some parents me included have no choice!!

I dont understand why she would park iver the dropped cub rather than behind you where there is a space?? Thats quite weird.. were you parked in the middle of a space and not pulled up closely to the dropped curb start so you were taking up space behind? Otherwise I cant see why she would park there rather than the large space behind you

If it’s a public road and people are parking legally and safely what’s the issue if they are parking near school?
