Entitled school mum parking (with diagram)

I will probably get flack for this but this is the second time this has happened in as many days. I get to school pick up early, parked my car noone in front and another car few metres behind. Another car comes and parks a few metres ahead. Another one comes and parks in between me and car ahead. Plenty of room to leave her car also bang in middle of both, but no she has to move her car as near to my bumper as possible. I move car back and she moves her car forward again right on top of my bumper. I beep my horn, she gets out of car asking why I did that, I said cos you've parked as near to me as possible, she says there's a load of room behind you, I said what if someone parks the same behind, then I'll move back she said (bear in mind she was leaving her car) and everyone's happy except you, i told her to sod off. And she parked over a dropped kerb. Aibu to think she could've just parked between the two cars leaving enough room both ways

I get cheesed off if someone blocks me in on the school run. So I either space in front or behind to pull away. In your situation I'd have waited for he get out her car before I pulled back. I'd never antagonise anyone on the school run.

With a dropped kerb in front of me I thought I would've had space, but guess not. My DD was on work experience with the primary school so I'm past caring who I antagonise. I'm sick and tired of taking crap off people.

Do you get very stressed about other petty things op?

Coconutter24 · 13/03/2026 17:05

Weeelokthen · 13/03/2026 16:58

Are you joking😮

No, so why don’t you answer? See if I’m missing something

thebrollachan · 13/03/2026 17:05

If there was a dropped kerb behind you, surely the chances were low, that someone would park there and block you in?

Or, was there a two-car length space between the dropped kerbs, which you parked right in the middle of?

Where exactly was the other dropped kerb?

Yeah maybe, are you going to pile on too😊. Maybe I'm just sick and tired of people's rudeness and inconsideration and that was the straw that broke the camels back. Ever thought of that?

I didn't park in the middle of anything she did. I parked behind the dropped kerb, I give up!

Give me a chance woman, are you always this impatient 😂
Because every primary school in North Lanarkshire is carnage at school in/out times with selfish/dangerous parkers and it really upsets me. I cannot imagine it's not common problem throughout the UK.

OneGreyBiscuit · 13/03/2026 16:31

As I've already said there is another dropped kerb between my car and behind, I park as far away from the school as possible, don't park over dropped kerb, don't park an inch from someone's bumper but I'm the inconsiderate one?

Then why did it matter if she was right up to you if you had plenty of room behind you to get out? What was bothering you?

saveforthat · 13/03/2026 17:14

Flamingojune · 13/03/2026 16:32

As far away as possible? Could you patk even further away

Or walk, which is completely stress free.

When you see her pull up, move forward, then when she parks and gets out move back.

What about my suggestion?

Swissmeringue · 13/03/2026 17:17

OneGreyBiscuit · 13/03/2026 16:23

Because I parked behind the dropped kerb and there was another dropped kerb not far behind my car, if I'm parked behind the dropped kerb what's the problem? And where I parked is a five minute walk to the school as I was hoping not to have to deal with this sort of situation. If I'm there first why can I not park where I want? There shouldn't be anyone in front of me and there's room behind.

If you can "park where you want" then so can the other car? Why are you concerned about being parked in when it's school pickup and everyone is going to be leaving at more or less the same time anyway?

You've got a valid point about them blocking a dropped kerb but YABU otherwise.

Flamingojune · 13/03/2026 17:19

So if she was on work experience, not a nipper?

thebrollachan · 13/03/2026 17:19

OneGreyBiscuit · 13/03/2026 17:09

I didn't park in the middle of anything she did. I parked behind the dropped kerb, I give up!

I agree she was wrong to block a dropped kerb (and wonder if she pulled forward to leave a space for access, which might not have been visible from your POV). I just don't understand why it was a problem for you. With a dropped kerb immediately behind you, you could easily escape by reversing a little before pulling out.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 13/03/2026 17:19

Talipesmum · 13/03/2026 16:01

She was unreasonable for parking over a dropped kerb.
But why didn’t you just park yourself a small distance from one of the other cars, rather than relying on others to leave space for you? If it’s a street where school parking is busy and spaces fill up, don’t leave big gaps - just park neatly next to another car, leaving just enough room to allow yourself to get out of the space if someone parks up in front of you.

Sensible answer!

Farmwifefarmlife · 13/03/2026 17:20

Seems like a lack of being able to drive / park tbh. Infuriates me when people leave miles of space especially on a tight school run! Everyone should park up to each other ridiculous to leave miles of space between cars!

OneGreyBiscuit · 13/03/2026 17:20

saveforthat · 13/03/2026 17:14

Or walk, which is completely stress free.

Yes wouldn't that be nice? The big problem here is the schools 3 miles away on busy A roads, which I've put before but as the majority of you just want to have a go you don't bother reading that!🤷

Restlessdreams1994 · 13/03/2026 17:23

If you’re precious about how close people park to you then you should have parked in front of the car behind instead of right in the middle of the available space!

If she’s a school mum then she’s only going to be the same time as you so if you really didn’t have enough space to pull out, you’d only have to wait a minute or two at the most before she left anyway.

All this drama with horn beeping and getting verbally aggressive makes you sound like the entitled one. Unnecessary horn beeping is really inconsiderate to anyone nearby who works nights, or has a migraine, or is trying to get their baby to sleep, or struggles with PTSD/anxiety. Yet you seem to feel it’s fine to disturb everyone because you’re annoyed by how another person has parked.

Give your head a wobble.

I'll say it again for the hundredth time. I reversed back a bit and then she proceeded to move further up to my car again for no reason other than to antagonise me I think

Periperi2025 · 13/03/2026 17:27

The risk you take every single time you leave your car parallel parked is that your car will get sandwiched. The entire practice relies on everyone who parks either side of your car during the time it's left there not to block it in. She didn't do that as she could see the large space behind you. Yes the car behind the large space behind could move and another one turn up, and maybe not weigh up the situation correctly but that's life and a big 'what if'. In a modern car with power steering and possibly reversing sensors you should be able to get out of a very small space.

OP if you can't handle the dynamics or the manourvering of parellel parking then you need to find a carpark.

SunnyRedSnail · 13/03/2026 17:27

OneGreyBiscuit · 13/03/2026 16:16

She was parked over the dropped kerb regardless of whether she stopped in the middle or was hanging off my bumper so it made no difference

Its not illegal to park over a dropped kerb as long as you're not blocking someone in. Its just bad manners.

I dont see the issue with her parking close to you.

Rollercoaster1920 · 13/03/2026 17:27

I get you. I wonder if it was my neighbour! She always reverses until her reversing sensors are screaming, then leaves it there. Occasionally someone parks close in front of her and she's pretty much blocked in if they do the same.

Some people just don't see how life can be easier if everyone is a little bit considerate and thinks things through.

TBF She's also generally a terrible driver, I saw her driving on the wrong side of the road once, and pull out from a give way onto a road nearly causing a crash.

Flamingojune · 13/03/2026 17:27

OneGreyBiscuit · 13/03/2026 16:53

FFS, I give up! I'll just let my DD play chicken with cars that are doing 60mph plus and hope that pleases you. Some parents me included have no choice!!

Are there no pavements?

You genuinely think a stranger was doing something just to antagonise you?

SleepyHollowed84 · 13/03/2026 17:30

So you allegedly

  • Had to get there early to get a spot
  • but at the same time you parked as far away from school as possible
  • left two massive gaps either side of you
  • beeped at someone

And then have asked if YABU but are challenging anyone who says YABU?

YABU.

No there isn't on large stretches, funnily enough
