No...

Not sure where you get that idea.
You get paid into a bank account. As long as you haven't closed that, you're fine.

A credit card has a totally different set of account IDs, so they're separate unrelated products even if you hold them at the same bank.

Even if you'd cancelled your debit card, which is linked to the bank account, you could still receive monies into the account, you just might have to go in branch to withdraw any until you got the new card.

I froze my debit card and then cancelled the debit card for a New one to be sent out, so I should still get wages paid into account?

What’s the fraud risk? You really should speak to your bank’s fraud line to get to the bottom of this. It will be one of the options on the menu when you ring the number on the back of your debit card.

I’m not worried about that now as the card has been cancelled, I’m just worried I won’t get paid my wages as my card is cancelled ?

Money due to be paid into your account won't be affected by cancelling your debit card and requesting a new one.

TheTattooedLady · 13/03/2026 02:04

cancelling your card definitely doesn’t mean you won’t get paid.

@ThatLilacHedgehog yes of course you will, is this a real question? Seriously? The bank account is still active while you wait for a new card.

Tourmalines · 13/03/2026 03:13

The card is not your bank account. It’s just card connected to your bank account. Anybody can still pay into your account as it’s still active, including your boss. You have not closed your bank account.

Mt563 · 13/03/2026 03:33

It's about card details vs bank account details.

Your bank account has a sort code and account number. Those stay the same for as long as the account is open. They are used by other people to send you money.

The debit card is linked to that sort code and account number but can replaced without impacting the account details.

Your new card will have a different long number and ccv number. these are your card details. You use them to pay money out online, eg when shopping. So if you have card details saved on a site to make payment quicker, you'll need to re enter those.

You've got a new card and therefore new card details but your account and account details are the same. Your wage will go into your account as normal and you'll be able to access it with your new card.

So what has the credit card not to do with it? you get paid to a bank account don't you what on earth has your cards go to do with all this?

But if the OP actually read what people are telling them and not drip feeding maybe they could take in more?

traveltraveltravel78 · 13/03/2026 06:18

Yes you will still be paid. Don't worry! I had to cancel mine in Jan for the same reason, and my salary went in as normal. Card was through within 2 days 😊

They're probably a little panicked from the scam scare, they need their salary and they are clearly not very financially savvy, give them some grace. They're just trying to understand and be sure.

Riverflow6 · 13/03/2026 06:36

Your card is your way of accessing your ‘pot’ of money aka bank account. Without a card you can still get your money by getting it out at a bank or getting a new card etc

Zanatdy · 13/03/2026 06:57

Your company uses your bank details to pay you, sort code and account number. The debit card is irrelevant.

InterestedDad37 · 13/03/2026 06:59

OP: compare it to changing the lock on your house door. Nobody can get in using the original key, but the house is still there, and the post can still be delivered.

That is an excellent analogy.

Your bank account doesn’t cease to exist if you request a new card.

Well of course. The account is still open isn't it?
