Advice to avoid flavoured yoghurts is often given but many people will not eat plain yoghurt. Do you avoid flavoured yoghurts/kefir?

You are being unreasonable - I buy plain only
You are NOT being unreasonable - I buy flavoured

I eat plain yoghurt with fruit. Because I'm trying to be healthy. But I've actually grown to prefer it.

Everyone else in the family eats flavoured yoghurt.

Each to their own!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/03/2026 18:19

I like the flavoured yoghurts, especially black cherry flavour full fat yoghurt, but I have type 2 diabetes so I buy plain yoghurt and add either persimmon and sweet cinnamon, or defrosted frozen cherries.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/03/2026 19:01

We get both types - mostly plain because it's more versatile, works out cheaper and if the fancy takes me, I can use it to make another batch.

I also really like ewe's milk yoghurt.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/03/2026 19:02

I occasionally buy plain but add sweetener or honey.

Just add strawberries or whatever fruit to plain kefir. Blend if you want.

user2848502016 · 12/03/2026 19:07

I buy both, but not ones like fruit corners that are full of sugar and bits of chocolate.
Flavoured will be Greek style/organic type ones.
I think there’s many worse things than flavoured yoghurt

chattyness · 12/03/2026 19:09

I buy plain creamfields yoghurt from Tesco it's lovely. I usually eat it plain but sometimes add some honey or some stewed rhubarb

Nipnap · 12/03/2026 19:21

I dont like yoghurt full stop.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 12/03/2026 19:26

No, flavoured yoghurt tastes too sweet/ chemically for me. Plain Greek or kefir with fruit for me

PetulaClark · 12/03/2026 19:38

Full fat Greek yoghurt with a handful of pecan nuts and a drizzle of maple syrup. Every morning. I usually make my own using the thermos flask method!

Fage strawberry OMG, the best IMHO! Although dh, and I disagree on how it is pronounced.
I find most people who eat natural yoghurt flavour it with something, eg honey etc.

Fage strawberry is out of this world good, it’s like mousse, I always have pots and pots of it in the fridge.

I buy Longley Farm yoghurt if I can. They are the best, hazelnut or any of the flavours, actually. Life is too short for inferior yoghurt, imo.
I also drink wine and eat Doritos. 😬

Excellent post!

How is it that Longley Farm are the best yoghurts but the most difficult to get hold of?

It's fairtrade and unrefined and it's not sugar disguised as something else.

An own-brand one has the following ingredients
Greek Style Yogurt (Milk), Sugar, Strawberry (3%), Strawberry Purée (3%), Maize Starch, Flavouring, Colour (Anthocyanins), Concentrated Lemon Juice, Live Bacterial Cultures [Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus Bulgaricus, Streptococcus Thermophilus]

A branded one has the following ingredients:
Skyr Yogurt from Skimmed Milk (87%), Strawberries (6.5%), Sugar, Maize Starch, Lemon Juice from Concentrate, Natural Flavouring

I make my own plain plant milk yogurt in a yogurt maker.

I’d be so grateful for your recipe please. I’ve wasted a lot of time on failures!

Psychosislotus · 13/03/2026 11:22

Why are we not eating flavoured yoghurts?

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 13/03/2026 11:24

I buy plain Greek yoghurt and add my own fruit. Usually I sweeten it with a bit of date syrup as well.

ginasevern · 13/03/2026 11:29

I could eat a bucket load of Fage plain Greek yoghurt. I like it on savoury things too, such as samosas, grilled chicken or salads. But if I want a flavoured yoghurt, I'll have one. Just like if I want a glass of wine or a bar of chocolate. Surely everything in moderation?

Liteharted · 13/03/2026 11:31

We buy flavoured yogurts. DH and I like Oykos. DC like petit filous and yogurt tubes but buying plain and mixing something in isn't a bad idea.

I had some delicious Greek yogurt with honey in Athens.

Fairtade has nothing to do with the ingredients. Unrefined or not disguised, sugar is still sugar. If I wanted a flavoured yoghurt I'd mash up some raspberries and stir it in. There's no need for added sugar.

If you don’t like it, don’t eat it. Yoghurt is not an essential food group.

I make my own in a yoghurt maker. So cheap and easy.

Yep me too.

Cricketashes · 13/03/2026 13:21

I've got greek yoghurt right now with banana, seeds and honey

An ingredient being Fairtrade does have something to do with the ingredients
The raspberries contain sugar anyway.

WheretheFishesareFrightening · 13/03/2026 13:24

I mostly eat plain yoghurt.

But I’ve just had a Greggs pasty and a can of coke for my lunch so flavoured yoghurts are probably the least of my worries.
