To think that no matter how hard we try, some of us have just been dealt a shit hand in life 😢.

I’m sorry this is happening Op, you are exactly right. It is totally shit sometimes. Any particular type? Or just everything?

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 11/03/2026 22:36

@WednesdaysChild73 , sometimes life does feel like it against us but to me that’s a challenge. I won’t be beaten, I’ve been beaten but I won’t stay down.

WednesdaysChild73 · 11/03/2026 22:56

Thank you both, for your kind words I think that’s what I need to hear right now. It feels life has just been a never ending battle, I can even pin point the date

Myfridgeiscool · 11/03/2026 22:59

Yep. The shit keeps on coming.
I keep batting it away though.
Does your head in doesn’t it.

WednesdaysChild73 · 11/03/2026 23:09

Feeling sorry for myself at the moment, mental health is shit, living in a squalor/chaos, struggling with ND adult son, in desperate need of a holiday, just feeling lost

It really does, and it’s always us good people that has so much shit 😩

OP posts:
WednesdaysChild73 · 11/03/2026 23:11

Let’s just pour our shit out here guys

Anyone who denies this is in denial!
However, how we respond to equally shitty lives can make a difference.
I really hope things improve. Ive been there and its tough. 💐

ZippyBlueViper · 11/03/2026 23:13

I feel you, i often wonder wtf i have done wrong in life to deserve some of the things that happen.
I'm sorry you're having a shitty time. It might not feel like it now but tomorrow is a new day and hopefully tomorrow will be better

Nah, it might feel that way, but there's plenty of wronguns causing themselves shit - prisons are full of them.

Sorry you're feeling like this.

FiveMetresUp · 11/03/2026 23:15

I think if you sorted out the squalor and had a nice, clean, tidy home, everything would feel a bit better.

Have you tried Fly Lady?

Yes it really is, and others sail through it with nothing! ND is so tough, can we help with any advice ? Some days I’m so beaten down by it with my kids, yes I get back up - no choice But optimism seems pointless right now x

Yes, it would definitely make me feel better obviously, but it’s easier said than done

I'm sorry OP. Life can really kick our arses sometimes. I love the words of Julian of Norwich at times like this All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well. Sometimes the only way is through.
I had a rough time recently. Surprised myself at how chirpy I've felt today, and realised it was just because the sun was out. It really is about taking some comfort from the small things sometimes.

Sure it is, but it IS achievable. Might be a good place to start? My mental health improved enormously once I sorted my house out.

SuzyFandango · 11/03/2026 23:25

Target tiny victories. Achievable targets you can hit, focussed on self care & regulation, Eg:

Tonight I'm going to cook a hot meal (beans on toast counts).

Tonight i'll clean one sink.

Tonight i'll do ten mins mindfulness meditation before bed

Tonight i'll wash my hair.

Tonight i'll put my phone on charge downstairs and go to sleep by 11pm etc

I'm sorry, that sounds really tough!

do you use the Nextdoor app?

my one, there are some cleaners who occasionally offer 'free cleans' to people in difficult situations (& the bigger mess/needing cleaning, the better). They don't oust before/after photos if these cleans either.

sometimes people post for help & local people just offer. It's worth a go!!

it's no wonder your MH is shit. Find some friendly help xx

Catza · 12/03/2026 08:53

I guess so. But after having a horrific year last year, I decided that things just happen. They are not good or bad, they just are. Everything that happens is coloured by our perception. I decided to use whatever life thrown at me to make changes. And it worked beautifully.
Life is meaningless. You have the power to make meaning. So make it what you want.
Last year I lost everything apart from my job. Some things were taken away from me, some things I had to decide to step out of deliberately as a result of that. I was holding onto the many things that didn't serve me out of fear but life doesn't give you anything new when you are holding on to the old for dear life. So I live very differently now and my favourite mantras are "so what" and "why not".

ThatCyanCat · 12/03/2026 08:57

Yes, it's true, OP. Some people have the shittest luck, even when they work hard, do everything they are supposed to do and are really good people. I'm really sorry.

@WednesdaysChild73 I think you should join this thread. I think you’d find it really helpful.
