I have a rose gold Smeg kettle and toaster, high shine, and I love them! I recently bought a house after years of renting after divorce, and I bought everything new. I did question my sanity then my dad said, if you like them, buy them so I did!

The kettle works and looks gorgeous, no regrets

They look amazing.

bridgetreilly · 10/03/2026 19:06

Of course it isn’t worth it.

But if you have the money to spend and can’t think of fifteen other things you’d rather have, then sure, buy it.

GiantTeddyIsTired · 10/03/2026 19:06

Skip the expensive kettle and get a Qooker instead. I did a couple of years ago and can't imagine going back.

HortiGal · 10/03/2026 19:15

Recently bought this from Next, £45, comes in colours and patterns, nice quick boil

As someone who has had horses and knows about sheath cleaning I wouldn’t want anything with Smeg written on it in my house as it just makes me think of smegma .

Yes to this. And I watched too much Red Dwarf back in the day.

Haha, yes, whenever I see Smeg brand stuff I immediately think of Red Dwarf.

"Smeeeeeg.... heeeeeed" 😆

PinkPanther50 · 10/03/2026 19:18

I have a Smeg kettle (bought with a voucher that needed using immediately) and I definitely wouldn’t buy another one. It is now a Sme as the g fell off, the paint has worn off on the lid where you push it to open so you can fill it and the paint has worn off around the top rim. It is also quite a heavy kettle. I much prefer my cheap Russell Hobs one that it replaced

ThatNattyPlayer · 10/03/2026 19:27

I have a smeg kettle and toaster, both very slow
i replaced the kettle with a ninja one, which I really like, I like the keep warm function so my tea is ready when I’m back off the school run

I don't like the sound of the word Smeg for some reason it sets me on edge.
I've got a Bosch kettle had it years n years still going strong.
They literally boil water so I'd not pay that sort of money to do that.

It’s just reminds me of a crusty unclean cock

irishcelticwitch · 10/03/2026 19:32

Had the chrome one, cost an arm and a leg, lasted 2 years and the button broke, style over substance, sorry!

Ezzee · 10/03/2026 19:42

I have a KitchenAid kettle and a Smeg kettle, the KA is our main one and it is just great, lasted longer than any other kettle and is so quiet.
The Smeg is in my office ( was a gift), very pretty but IMHO not so good.
But it all depends on what you want OP

HortiGal · 10/03/2026 19:49

@ChrisMartinsKisskam
you are correct;
Smeg" is a British slang term popularized by the sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf, used as a mild expletive or substitute for stronger swear words, stemming from the biological term "smegma" (genital secretions) to imply something gross or contemptible

Canadianskates · 10/03/2026 20:33

Ok the word Smeg has well and truly put me off buying that make!!! 😳😳😳

cherrymauve · 10/03/2026 20:52

Mine lasted 3 years. Had various faults. Customer service was crap.
I’ll never buy another SMEG product.

Canadianskates · 10/03/2026 21:01

Thanks for all your comments. What a shame Smeg seems like it’s pretty rubbish on the whole! I’m going to get a Dualit instead I think, I’ve had a look and they are lovely

I had a pink one and when that died after near constant use over eight years we bought a blue one. They are lovely looking kettles and I would not hesitate to get another.

8 years? Not that long lasting then. My cheap Swan one is at least 12 years old and I think was about £15

AnonSugar · 10/03/2026 21:23

I totally get buying good quality products. But I can’t get on board with £160 for a kettle. It has a simple job. Boil water. The water is the same - boiled - from any kettle. There is nothing different about the water from a £5 kettle or a £160 kettle.

JMSA · 10/03/2026 22:10

JustGiveMeReason · 10/03/2026 18:57

But that is not an outstandingly long time for a kettle to last.
All my kettles last that sort of time, and the most recent one we bought cost under £15, which is typical (inflations adjusted) of all the kettles I have owned.

I don't understand paying 11 or 12x the price for something that does exactly the same function.

Because they’re attractive. Not everyone is happy with a cheap plastic white kettle. I’ll stick with my Dualit.

FredaMountfitchet · 10/03/2026 22:11

No had it approx 18 months looks shabby & not a great boiler.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/03/2026 22:15

dizzydizzydizzy · 10/03/2026 18:02

That is a silly price. I’ve got a lovely transparent kettle. It lights up blue and was only about £20 on Amazon 3 years ago.(and I’m saying that as someone who generally goes for higher quality items because they usually last longer and work better).

I think we have the same kettle!

Santasbigredbobblehat · 10/03/2026 22:21

Bought one and it lasted 7 years, then my sister gave me her old one she’d had for a year. Lasted another two. Both ended up chipped and the lid a bit mucked up. Probably not worth it tbh!

dizzydizzydizzy · 10/03/2026 22:35

NoWordForFluffy · 10/03/2026 22:15

I think we have the same kettle!

Lol! I think we may even have had this discussion before, a year or two ago.

Anyway, I salute your impeccable taste!

HereIfYouNeedMe · 10/03/2026 22:37

Why am I the only one who instantly thinks of Smeg…ma whenever I see these appliances in kitchens? Mmmm….appetising 😂

scoobydeedoo · 10/03/2026 22:39

I bought the Smeg kettle. I do love the way it looks, however it is very heavy so lazy me thinks there's more water in it than there is, so I often end up with a small cuppa.

The covering has also started flaking away on the lid, so it no longer looks beautiful. When it gives up the ghost I won't be replacing it with another Smeg kettle

HereIfYouNeedMe · 10/03/2026 22:39

I stand corrected, I’m not the only one! 😅
